00:00Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has claimed that U.S. carmaker Tesla is struggling to keep
00:06up with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
00:09Because they are experiencing a loss, they cannot compete with EVs from China, so their
00:16operations in Thailand are big.
00:18We are just getting started.
00:20Anwar said Tesla had shared this information with the Investment Trade and Industry Ministry.
00:26Last night, its Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said Tesla had never announced any plans
00:30to build a factory in the country.
00:33This was in response to a report by Thai Daily The Nation that Tesla has abandoned its plans
00:38to build factories in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia.
00:43In July last year, Anwar announced large-scale investments from Tesla and one of Elon Musk's
00:48other high-tech ventures, SpaceX, in Malaysia, which Anwar said would create tens of thousands
00:53of high-value jobs.
