"I'll Build An Igloo For You"

Princeton Triangle Club Jazz Band

Columbia 59-P

December 3, 1924

Song by Herbert C. Sanford

Princeton is a prestigious college, and one jewel of the college is the Princeton Triangle Club, which put on live performances.

In 1923, some members of the Triangle pit orchestra decided to form an ensemble that would be called the Princeton Triangle Jazz Band. This could be hired for dance parties.

The Princeton Triangle Club Jazz Band (consisting of mostlyl Princeton college men?) made recordings between 1924 and 1932 at the Columbia Studio in New York City.

The songs were arrangements of music written for the Triangle Club theatrical productions with some exceptions.

Herbert C. Sanford, a pianist, wrote many songs for the annual shows, and some of his songs were recorded, including "I'll Build An Igloo For You" by the jazz band (with Sanford at the piano during the recording sessions).

The discs were issued with Columbia's "Personal Record" label. Eleven discs were issued.

Bix Biderbecke counted some of the ensemble's musicians as friends.

Clem Wells, trumpet

Frank Orvis, trumpet

Avery Sherry, clarinet

Kinney Ellis, alto sax

Arnold Tietig, violin

Herbert C. Sanford, piano

J . D . Evans, banjo

Kirk Gilmore, drums
