00:00McDonald's has re-lodged an amended planning application to open a new restaurant at the
00:07site of the now-closed Old Red Lion pub on York Road, after the original plans were refused
00:13by the Council. The controversial plans angered some locals and Yorkshire Evening Post readers
00:18when they were first submitted in January. Leeds City Council rejected the application
00:23in June, with one of the reasons for the refusal being that McDonald's had failed to demonstrate
00:28that there are no better sites that would be more suited for a restaurant.
00:33McDonald's has now lodged a revised proposal with amendments to new plans including reduced
00:38opening hours from 24 hours to 7am to 11pm. It also promises to plant 18 trees on the
00:45site and a further 37 in the adjacent woodland, and to build a pedestrian refuge island on
00:51the Bailden Drive junction. The plans will be discussed in more detail in the coming
00:56weeks.
