They say it lowers recovery time and improves post-surgery life for patients.

00:00Surgeons are known for their steady hands, but these doctors in South Africa are getting
00:08a little help.
00:09This is what's called the Da Vinci Robot.
00:11A tool surgeons are now using to aid them with more complex surgeries.
00:14The device has four arms, compared to a surgeon's two, allowing the real-life doctor to use
00:19two of them to hold static positions, while the other two are used more actively for whatever
00:23invasive movements are needed.
00:24They say patients who are operated on using the Da Vinci Robot have a quicker recovery
00:28time as well.
00:29This is Tim Forgan, a surgeon who has worked with the device, to explain.
00:33Patients have done very, very well.
00:34They go home much sooner, so our average length of stay is three days.
00:39So you have a major procedure, we remove big cancers, and three days later you're at home.
00:44And they say it reduces nerve damage in patients.
00:46But it's not the only innovation at this hospital.
00:48They're also employing technology to allow patients to chat with loved ones whenever
00:52they want, helping them heal with emotional support.
00:54With two ways, technology is helping people all over the world live better lives.
