00:00This is what was once crowned ugliest animal in the world but now it's got a
00:07brand new even more regal title. That's because New Zealand's Mountain to Sea
00:11Conservation Trust just named the ugly little guy fish of the year. But why? Well
00:16the whole thing was to raise awareness for the oceanic and freshwater wildlife
00:19around the island nation. The blobfish lives off the coast of Australia and can
00:23be found at depths of up to 4,000 feet. And while it's massively ugly it's not
00:27that large as blobfish only grow to around 12 inches long. And while it was
00:31only just given a crown its diet has always been rich. Blobfish subside on
00:36crab, lobster, sea urchins and mollusks. The fish with the face only a mother
00:40could love beat out nine other competitors by raking in 1,300 of the
00:44more than 5,500 votes. Still like nearly all of the other species on the list
00:48they're vulnerable specifically affected by deep-sea trawling. It's also worth
00:53mentioning that the blobfish is already the mascot for the ugly animal
00:57preservation society.
