00:31Francisco one of the rumored teams that was in the running to maybe trade for
00:36Brandon Iuke they had had conversations with San Francisco according to ESPN's
00:41Adam Schefter but now no longer in the running to trade for Brandon Iuke what
00:47do you make of this situation DRS yeah this situation is kind of odd for me to
00:53start out with because we've heard about Brandon Iuke being upset with the
00:56San Francisco 49ers for months and months and months on end right from the
01:00Super Bowl all the way up till now so you figured you say all right we're in
01:04the Super Bowl window we want to win a Super Bowl we got to keep our best
01:07players happy he's an integral part of this team but they sort of let this
01:10fester where he's not practicing and now contacting other teams and probably
01:14getting excited about leaving San Francisco to go to the other teams but
01:18the joke for me always was like if he went to the Steelers like okay Russell
01:21Wilson's a quarterback you know Justin Fields there's a legitimate chance that
01:25they could be a solid franchise this year I'm not talking about Super Bowl
01:28but just playing in a good division and you're certainly gonna get your fair
01:31share of looks in that offense or if you're going to let you say the
01:33Cleveland Browns saying you know what Deshaun Watson hopefully he can turn it
01:37on at this point and be that quarterback always thought he would be I'm gonna be
01:40an integral part of a very good football team I think that can make a run into
01:43the playoffs and do some damage the Patriots never made any sense for me
01:46because there's the timing of all this do you always want to improve your team
01:50I understand the easy answer is yes but the timing of when you want to improve
01:55your team if you're looking at the Patriots this year and let's just say and
01:58it could still happen where they maybe jump into the process Ben let's just say
02:01in 45 minutes Brandon I've got traded to the Patriots we'd break the news and I'd
02:05go their win total is the same they stink I mean it's just it doesn't make
02:09any difference but he could be a difference maker in Pittsburgh and a
02:12difference maker obviously if he was going to the Cleveland Browns so when I
02:16see like Brandon Ike's availability doesn't look like he's gonna be with the
02:19New England Patriots I don't understand why they were in on this they should
02:22just be tanking this season once again building up those assets savings their
02:26money for when they believe they can start to be a competitor in the AFC
02:30East that's when you go and get these legitimate players you're always looking
02:33for better players again I understand that I just never thought it made any
02:37sense whatsoever I you to the Patriots I think it's a great point Donnie and
02:42that's what makes this situation a little bit confounding in San Francisco
02:46Brandon Iuke in my estimation is a difference maker more than 1,300
02:51receiving yards last year seven receiving scores in the first full
02:55season with Brock Purdy Iuke not Devo Samuel not George Kittle was Purdy's top
03:01target he is a difference maker for a contender like a Super Bowl co-favorite
03:07in the short NFC title favorites that are the San Francisco 49ers and yet he
03:13is now on the trading block which makes this situation even more complicated as
03:19well for those on the outside inquiring with some interest into Brandon Iuke it
03:25may be having conversations with the Niners GM John Lynch you have to trade
03:29for him and you know there's going to be a hefty trade tag multiple early round
03:34draft picks would be my estimation of the capital you would have to give up
03:38and then you have to pay Brandon Iuke because that's the whole reason they're
03:43in this spot in the first place in San Francisco I'm still not sure he is
03:48going to be traded because the asking price might be too much for what has to
03:52be dealt and then what has to be given up in terms of a new contract for
03:57Brandon Iuke on the other side elsewhere DRS yesterday in the NFL I found it
04:04somewhat surprising that Dave Canales announced that Bryce Young will not
04:08play in the preseason opener for Carolina on Thursday night against the
04:14New England Patriots it was a four and a half point spread it is now nearly a
04:18touchdown in favor of the Pats in one of the two games tomorrow to start off in
04:24full week number one of the preseason were you surprised by the decision in
04:28Carolina to hold Bryce Young out of the first preseason game no not necessarily
04:34because different coaching staffs have different opinions on what they're
04:36getting out of the preseason and also keep in mind it's not just your young
04:40quarterback playing we have to understand this notion of yeah yeah let's
04:43send them out there for a quarter with you know a left tackle that's not gonna
04:46make the football team past another two weeks at this point that means your
04:49entire starters wide receivers tight ends running backs and offensive linemen
04:53must be out there with your franchise guy and maybe they're just bringing guys
04:57along and also keep in mind I'm not following like the day-to-day operations
05:00for the Panthers maybe Ben they have one or two starters nicked up on that
05:03offensive line that they want to give extra time for you can't just plug in
05:07guys that aren't expected to play with your franchise guy one blown assignment
05:11could end your entire season so I don't have any issues that he's not going to
05:14play in a perfect world sure you'd like to see him play new coaching staff new
05:18offensive scheme here didn't play all that well last year get him as many
05:22reps as possible we understand that but that's just not the life now in the NFL
05:25this day and age the one thing you can never ever like if let's just say if one
05:29team play I'm gonna play all our guys in the preseason you lose two or three
05:32starters that coach is never gonna survive that season for doing it you can
05:36never have too much caution if the coach wants to be cautious in the preseason I
05:39don't mind him doing it Ben risk of injury is always there and I think your
05:44point is sound we had the same conversation for the Hall of Fame game
05:48and the will he won't he Caleb Williams play it's not just the quarterback out
05:52there with a guy that might not make the roster as his center or wide receiver
05:56it's the entire first team offense but I would have expected for a 2 and 15
06:01football team last year where their prized possession in the number one
06:05overall pick Bryce Young had an abysmal rookie campaign to try to gain that
06:11experience even early on in the preseason I was a little bit surprised
06:15by the move out of Dave Canales because Bryce Young threw for more than 250
06:20yards once last year it was week 16 against the Packers 312 yards two
06:27touchdowns zero INTs but he had 11 TDs to 10 interceptions only 2,877 passing
06:35yards put that into comparison for year number two for Bryce Young here are his
06:41season-long props 3,200 and a hook 17 and a half passing touchdowns there needs
06:47to be improvement as the graphic indicates yes and also I think there
06:51will be improvement also you could take some solace where Dave Canales just came
06:55from in Tampa Bay resurrecting Baker Mayfield's career it's sort of the
06:58perfect like sort of scenario that you would like from your new head coach
07:01saying hey look I just did it before I can do it again and I know how much
07:04resurrecting we need like we watched him in college he was phenomenal it was
07:08shockingly how bad it was last year but sometimes you are a product of your
07:12environment and hopefully that environment is better this year it was
07:16unstable in Charlotte last year we'll see about 2024 more around the NFL next
07:21some interesting initial quarterback depth charts released yesterday around
07:27the National Football League that involved two of the six rookie
07:31quarterbacks taken in the top 12 of the 2024 NFL draft we start in Minneapolis
07:37with the Vikings Sam Darnold who was listed as the starter following the
07:42offseason program in Minnesota by head coach Kevin O'Connell in the first depth
07:47chart of preseason Sam Darnold remains the starter the 10th overall pick the
07:52rookie out of Michigan JJ McCarthy his backup this was really the true surprise
07:57in Denver Bo Nix not even the backup he's listed as the third string QB
08:04behind both Zach Wilson and the number one quarterback Jarrett Stidham DRS the
08:10caption of that graphic that you saw on your screen was does it matter at this
08:17stage of training camp before week number one fully gets underway in the
08:21preseason so answer the question does it matter 100% it does it matters to me and
08:28I understand what coaches do and some of the mind games that they like to play
08:32and you got to earn your position and I don't care where it goes like these ones
08:36been I don't care where you were drafted the best man will play that's not how
08:39sports works here you draft the guy in the first round he's expected to be out
08:41there otherwise your general manager will probably fire you for embarrassing
08:45him and vice versa the opposite direction but let's also take place here
08:49sometimes you say to yourself oh this depth chart is interesting well how
08:52about when Aaron Rodgers gets drafted to the Green Bay Packers but Brett Favre is
08:55ahead of him hey by the way Favre's first on the depth chart of course that's
08:58going to make sense and the same thing with Green Bay did you go out and get
09:01love as a draft pick as a quarterback high and you don't play oh why is he
09:05only the second quarterback well Aaron Rodgers is above him let's take a look
09:08at some of these depth charts of how they're playing out like Sam Darnold has
09:11been kicked around I'm not saying he's not an NFL quarterback at heart because
09:15he is drafted high team still think he has some talent they're gonna give him
09:18a chance but Minnesota isn't one of those football teams that we look at
09:21like the New England Patriots that goes do we want to kill this kid out here
09:25because there's no weapons no talent in the division he is gonna get pasted the
09:29first seven eight games of the season we were led to believe JJ McCarthy was the
09:34ultimate winner unbelievable at the chalkboard boy when you get him into the
09:39pros he is gonna be it from day one and command that cuddle we even had Jim
09:43Harbaugh thinking out there in Los Angeles that he was gonna trade Justin
09:47Herbert because he never saw a quarterback ever around men that could
09:50be able to lead a group of guys to a victory so now we're saying to ourselves
09:54wait a second we've watched JJ McCarthy in his pro days in his OTAs and in
09:59training camp now and he's not better than Sam Darnold that could be an issue
10:03flip it over to the Broncos you went out and said alright well we're gonna trade
10:06Russell Wilson the future starts now the future is gonna be Jared Stidham over
10:11Zach Wilson now I understand it's a depth chart we haven't seen any
10:14preseason this could change here but why are you doing this because typically
10:18myself I've seen at every level of sports professional college in high
10:22school you know what typically happens on the first day of practice the coach
10:25has the football and goes you are my starter in front of the team flips on
10:29the football and says lead this team and you set the tone from day one players
10:33around camp understand how well these guys play in camp who deserves to start
10:37but if you are going to be the leader of men and be the franchise quarterback
10:41to be drafted in round number one and be behind Zach Wilson and Jared Stidham I
10:47don't know what Sean Payton is doing at this point so worse here in Denver than
10:52Minnesota for me I don't understand you get drafted round number one on a decent
10:57football team you better be the starter day number one in OTAs if not I'm
11:01questioning the general manager and the head coach and if I'm an owner I'm
11:05saying I don't know if I have the right guys in place if you just sold me on the
11:08franchise guy that can't beat out mediocre bums at this point they signed
11:14Sam Darnold that was the Vikings to a one-year ten million dollar deal this
11:18offseason all right there's some investment maybe it's a 50-50 shot that
11:22JJ McCarthy is the week one starter when Minnesota travels to MetLife to take on
11:27the Giants the Vikes right now a slight favorite but you would think in that
11:31offensive situation with Kevin O'Connell as the head coach and now Aaron
11:35Jones in the backfield and the happy Justin Jefferson and TJ Hawkinson we'll
11:40see about the status of Jordan Addison following the off the field DUI arrest
11:44earlier this offseason it would be a good place for the guy that has a proven
11:49pedigree in winning but not necessarily in production not the case as of this
11:55moment the shocking one to me though DRS is in the Mile High City there were
12:00three quarterbacks after the NFL Draft when the season-long passing yards
12:04props were available three rookie QBs taken in the top six that had a passing
12:10yards prop Kayla Williams Jaden Daniels and Bo Nix now with Bo Nix listed as
12:15third-string quarterback the passing yards prop is off the board it is gone
12:23Bo Nix is still listed as the starting favorite at minus 162 on the FanDuel
12:29sportsbook but the passing yards prop is gone there was a literal market move
12:34based on the depth chart being released in Denver very confusing to me
