00:00The MMDA is looking for a solution for the garbage collected.
00:04The 50-Year Drainage Master Plan in Metro Manila is the next step.
00:09First news is from Chino Gaston.
00:14When it rains, the flood in some places in Metro Manila is heavy.
00:21The canals are flooded with garbage.
00:24After the super storm Karina and Habagat in July,
00:29more than 1,500 tons of garbage were collected by the MMDA
00:35in various estuaries, canals, and rivers in Manila.
00:39And until now, the cleaning and collection continues.
00:44In Barangay 12, Galoocan, tons of garbage were collected from Salay-Salay Creek.
00:50Most of them are single-use plastic bags, styrofoam, and other solid wastes.
00:55When the waterways are flooded, it quickly overflows
00:59and floods the residential areas and roads.
01:03So it is no longer surprising that in the aftermath of Hurricane Karina,
01:07the flood reached the area.
01:10The MMDA is looking for a solution for the 50-Year Drainage Master Plan in Metro Manila
01:17that will be forced to start this year using funds from the World Bank.
01:22Our drainage system is small.
01:24It can only accommodate 25 mm per hour to discharge the water.
01:29Per hour, 24 mm rainfall.
01:32And this last Typhoon Karina, our drainage rainfall is 74 mm per hour.
01:39While the Integrated Master Plan is not yet expanded,
01:42the MMDA is already working on the implementation of the Master Plan.
01:48This is the first news. Chino Gaston for GMA Integrated News.
