00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:07It is Amelia.
00:08I hope you are fine.
00:09Three years since the Multiverse Saga began, what may be the MCU's best what-if, story
00:14so far may not have been seen by many.
00:17Ever since Loki season 1 sparked its rebirth, the Multiverse has been affecting all corners
00:22of the MCU.
00:24This has resulted in the arrival of Spider-Man variants in Spider-Man No Way Home, a jaunt
00:28across several universes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and the arrival
00:33of the MCU's biggest threat yet, the Council of Kongs in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Quantumania,
00:39the animated MCU show.
00:41What if, meanwhile, has been exploring in greater depth other universes in which branching
00:46timelines arise from the smallest of diversions from the main MCU timeline.
00:50Although What If season 2 concluded in December 2023, a bonus episode of sorts has recently
00:57emerged in an unusual guise.
00:59What If, an immersive story, is a collaborative effort between Marvel Studios and the Apple
01:04Vision Pro to deliver another branching timeline story, and it may be one of the best Multiverse
01:09stories yet.
01:10What If, an immersive story, is an interactive episode of What If that turns the viewer player
01:15into the so-called Hero of the Multiverse, a protagonist with an innate talent for sorcery
01:20that Wong helps to hone in a matter of minutes.
01:23It opens with the Watcher beseeching the Hero for their help in halting three villains
01:27from getting hold of select Infinity Stones in their timelines and changing the natural
01:32course of the Multiverse.
01:34The Hero does this with the help of the Soul and Space Stones and the Watcher's ability
01:38to transport them.
01:39The Hero collects Infinity Stones in the process of stopping the villains in question, only
01:44for the Watcher to reveal himself as Scarlet Witch in disguise.
01:48Scarlet Witch seizes the Infinity Stones for herself, intending to use them to create a
01:53brand new Multiverse in her image.
01:55She then sends the Hero to the Soul Realm alongside the villains.
01:59Here, the player meets Vision, whose death is an absolute point in time and something
02:04that Wanda intends to prevent.
02:06After being freed by Wong and aiding in the Scarlet Witch's defeat, the Hero transports
02:11Wanda and Vision to the Soul Realm to be together forever.
02:14The Hero of the Multiverse then faces a difficult decision.
02:18Destroy the Infinity Stones and allow the Multiverse to run its natural course or allow
02:23the villains to use them as they intended.
02:25This then gives way to two very different endings.
02:28Unfortunately, what if, an immersive story is restricted to the handful of people who
02:33own Apple Vision Pros.
02:35This precludes a huge swath of MCU fans from even being aware of this particular Multiverse
02:40saga story, making it a criminally overlooked addition to the MCU that finally treads new
02:45ground as fans clamor for new genres.
02:48While playthroughs can be watched online via platforms like YouTube.
02:52The fact that it is not watchable through typical means like Disney Plus or Cinemask
02:57means that it will largely fly under the radar.
03:00This is a status that is shared by no other MCU installment.
03:03The canonicity of what if, an immersive story is up for debate.
03:07But the very nature of the Multiverse suggests that it is as canon as any other universe,
03:12including Sony's Spider-Man franchises and Fox's X-Men franchise.
03:17Thankfully, this also means that the consequences of missing out on this underrated MCU installment
03:22extend only to the fact that it is worth a watch even if it does not impact the main
03:27MCU storyline.
