An Irish family moved to Tenerife to escape the "miserable rain" and say they save €13k-a-year on rent.

Mia Bowen, 29, and her partner, Ross Hurley, 34, decided to relocate to Spain four years ago after struggling to afford to find somewhere to rent in Cork, Ireland.

The couple moved with their son, Levi, now seven, but were plunged straight into a seven-month lockdown - due to the pandemic.

But since restrictions lifted the family say they have loved life in Tenerife and only pay €700-a-month for a two bedroom, two bath apartment with a sea view.

The family say they save around €1,100-a-month on rent after looking at rental properties for €1,800-a-month back in Ireland.

They spend every day outside and say they've all been less stressed and happier since swapping "miserable" rainy days for constant sunshine.

00:00My name is Mia and 4 years ago I left Ireland and moved to Tenerife with my son and my partner.
00:05My son was 2 years old at this time and now he's 7 and I'm letting you guys into a typical
00:09day in our lives.
00:10This is the most typical day.
00:12We woke up, the first thing my son asked was to go to the pool.
00:14We go to the pool literally twice a day.
00:16At the moment we're minding a friend's dog so we just gave him some cuddles when we came
00:19home.
00:20There was laundry to do.
00:21All of the sand from the clothes always piles up in like the rubber bit in the washing machine
00:24so I clean that up, things that you don't think about when you're living abroad.
00:27Then I headed up to our roof terrace to hang out my load of laundry.
00:30This is the best thing about living in a country where the sun is always shining and it's always
00:34hot.
00:35It's so easy to do laundry.
00:36This was already my third load of the day.
00:37I had already put one out this morning that had fully dried.
00:40As you can see from the view there, the wind is kind of hazy and that is because we have
00:43a clima at the moment which is sand from the Sahara Desert up into the air in Tenerife.
00:48This is a really typical thing that happens in Tenerife but not the nicest thing to happen
00:51especially when the weather is already 30 degrees and it's already really humid and
00:55really hot.
00:56Extra sand does not help.
00:58I decided to clean the kitchen and then I made my dinner and I also started to meal
01:01prep for my meals the next day.
01:04At the moment I'm doing some personal training with an all-women's gym kind of situation
01:08that I found which I'm really happy I found and it took me four years to find so believe
01:11me when you move abroad it will take you some time to find your feet and find your people.
01:16After the gym I headed home and brought the dog for a walk and that was my day.
01:19My name's Mia.
01:20I'm four years ago.
01:21I moved from Ireland to Spain.
01:22I wanted to show you what a typical day looks like after I come home from work and collect
01:24Levi from school.
01:25What I'm about to show you might be really simple but it's one of the main reasons why
01:29I love living in Spain.
01:30The culture of like coming home turning on the telly just doesn't exist here.
01:33There's so much life after work and after school.
01:36There's so much life in the evening that happens here.
01:38This is around 6.30 to 7.15.
01:41We were heading to get our hair cut and yes that is him trying to flip me off.
01:44After the haircuts we headed to a home store called Leroy Merlin.
01:47One thing I will say is I miss the stores being filled with like Easter decorations.
01:50We celebrate Easter here but more of a religious side of it instead of like let's say the Easter
01:53bunny.
01:54So they don't have Easter bunny treats or Easter bunny decorations that you can get.
01:57Even though over the years I do see them converting more into these kind of holidays like for
02:01example Halloween wasn't a thing here when we came here four years ago but now they really
02:04do celebrate it.
02:05There's a little coffee shop attached so we did get a takeaway coffee and takeaway hot
02:09chocolate.
02:10By the way as well guys I'm going to do a video about culture shocks but one of them
02:12is that you will find a beer tap everywhere.
02:14Can you imagine walking into Woody's DIY at home in Ireland and there's just a beer tap?
02:18I've committed myself to spring cleaning my house all this week so I'm glad I got all
02:21these things.
02:22As I was walking out I noticed how beautiful the mountains were I had to take a video.
02:25If I ever left Tenerife I know I'd miss the mountains.
02:28If you don't know the story by now how my name is Mia I moved from Ireland to Tenerife
02:31to start a new life four years ago.
02:33I want to start committing to making more TikToks but that means bringing you along
02:36a normal day in our lives and not just the fun things so here we go.
02:38This is just a typical day in our life at the moment me and Levi are off for summer
02:41together and guys when I tell you it's getting hot in Tenerife it is so freaking hot.
02:46We went for a morning walk this morning reminding a friend's dog and on our way home we saw
02:50these two guys pull this electric scooter out of the ocean I have so many questions.
02:53I have been promising Levi some Star Wars Lego for pretty much all summer so we hit
02:57up two toy stores today one in Las Cristianas and then we headed to Siam Mall which I hate
03:02going to this toy store because it's so overly priced but anyway we secured the Lego.
03:06I stopped at Mercadona on the way home got some groceries and if you can see there I
03:09dropped my yogurt on the way up from the car.
03:12We spent the rest of the day making Lego.
03:13We then stopped off in the park for an hour and watched the most beautiful sunset and
03:17after we got home I just sat down and did some freelance work and of course adjusted
03:21the vision board because there's been some amazing life updates recently.
