Isang grupo, nanawagan na bawasan ang teaching hours ng mga guro;

DepEd, tiniyak na hindi lalampas sa itinakdang oras ang pagtuturo ng mga guro

Transcript
00:00A group of teachers called for a shorter period of time for teaching under a solid curriculum.
00:09DepEd is probably also monitoring the teachers' activities.
00:14Kenneth Paciente is in Central Nambalita.
00:19In the release of Department Order No. 5 of the Department of Education
00:23under the former leadership of VP Sara,
00:25teachers are required to spend up to 8 hours a day in their services.
00:30Six hours of this should only be dedicated to the actual teaching of the students.
00:35This is something that the Teachers' Dignity Coalition wants to change.
00:39The group has already included this in the House Committee on Basic Education in the Chamber
00:44in line with the various talks on education.
00:47According to the group, this is heavy for the teachers
00:50who are not just doing simple things in the classroom.
00:54That would be a non-stop 6-hour lecture.
00:57Well, the break is only 20 minutes or 30 minutes
01:00along with the health break or what we call the recess of the students.
01:06That's why this is not practical.
01:08The group wants to consider doing only 4 hours of actual teaching of the teachers,
01:14especially since adjustments were made to some sections
01:17due to the rollout of a solid curriculum this school year 2024 to 2025.
01:22We don't need to force our teachers to work.
01:30What we really need is to hire more teachers
01:33so that we can help our system.
01:37For now, the group has already sent a letter
01:39to Education Secretary Sunny Angara
01:42to have a dialogue on the topic.
01:45For grade 4 teacher Teresita,
01:47there is no problem with the implementation of the new curriculum.
01:50But for her, it was implemented properly in her advisory class
01:54and she did not reach the point of exceeding the teaching hours.
01:58It cannot be too much.
02:00It has to be just right.
02:02Because the allowed teaching hours of teachers are 6 hours teaching long.
02:08Even so, DepEd has already said that the agency will still ensure
02:12that the teaching personnel who are involved in the rollout of a solid curriculum
02:16will not exceed the scheduled teaching hours.
02:19The 45 minutes times 8 is still 6 hours.
02:23That is the allowable teaching load under MAGNA CARTA for public school teachers.
02:28Even so, we are listening and we are seeing that no one is exceeding that.
02:33We heard that some are exceeding, but we need to be very strict about that
02:38so that our teachers will not get tired.
02:40The agency also emphasized that from last year until this May,
02:44they already had early orientation in schools
02:48for the implementation of this school year.
02:50Maybe some are saying that they thought that they are done,
02:53but if they are not in grades 1, 4, and 7,
02:55they still do not have a solid curriculum.
02:57They are teaching the old curriculum.
02:59The 2, 3, 5, and 8 is next year.
03:01DepEd also targets to increase and speed up the hiring of administrative staff
03:06to reduce the workload of teachers.
03:09Kenneth Paciente, for Pambansang TV in Bago, Philippines.
