00:00A Suitable Place, Equipped People, and Regulated Life
00:06It may help to look back quickly and see the tabernacle chapters as a whole.
00:11Not just one thing after another.
00:14In Exodus 24 verse 12 Moses ascends Sinai.
00:17In Exodus 31 verse 18 he descends.
00:21Exodus 25 verse 1 to 9, detailing the tabernacle materials, matches Exodus 31 verse 1 to 11,
00:29the tabernacle makers.
00:32Exodus 25 verse 10 to 27 colon 21, listing the furnishings, is balanced by Exodus 30
00:39verse 1 to 38, outlining the fitness of the furnishings.
00:44The central Exodus 28 verse 1 to 29 colon 46 focuses on the priesthood.
00:50The anointing oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
00:54Everything about the tabernacle is as God wishes it, but it is not fit for his service
00:59until it is set apart in holiness.
01:02In Exodus 30 verse 34 the focus turns to incense.
01:06According to Psalm 141 verse 2 prayer is as incense, but incense as such is not a symbol
01:12of prayer.
01:13In Revelation 8 verse 3 incense is offered with the prayers.
01:17The verb form of incense is used of the sacrifices, and the burnt offering has, literally, a sweet
01:24smell to God.
01:26Thus the smoke and scent of the incense perpetuate the influence of the sacrifices.
01:31The incense itself is kindled by fire from the bronze altar, which was the place of sacrifice,
01:37so that, in a sense, its smoke is the smoke of the sacrifices.
01:42Wrapped in that smoke the high priest brings his sin offering into the Holy of Holies,
01:46shielding him from the dangerous glory of the Lord.
01:50We says Paul, are to God the fragrance of Christ the Christ of Calvary is the cloud
01:54of incense in which we appear in the presence of God.
01:58In the next section we see that not only Bezalel and Aholiab, but all the artisans are gifted
02:03by God for the work.
02:05In the versatility of the operations of the Holy Spirit there is no aspect of our lives
02:10in which we cannot look for his anointing that God may be glorified.
02:15At the end of the chapter we may wonder why the Sabbath regulations are repeated here.
02:20Maybe, with the huge volume of work the tabernacle team faced, they might have felt excused from
02:25the Sabbath, or that such holy work was itself exempt.
02:30That is not so.
02:32The Sabbath is a sign, it is holy and a perpetual covenant, and it is enforced by the severest
02:38penalty.
02:39Reflection We do not have the Sabbath regulation, but
02:43we do have the creation ordinance of the one day in seven.
