00:00Moses the Finisher Look at the beginning and end of this portion.
00:06It begins with total obedience, and ends with total accomplishment, and in between says
00:11seven times that all was as the Lord commanded.
00:15This is something by no means true of all the Bible characters.
00:19The delightful Joshua ended his days with much land yet to be possessed.
00:25Solomon began to save Israel but great buffoon that he was, frittered his life and opportunities
00:30away.
00:31David did well until, at the halfway mark, he met Bathsheba and everything began to fall
00:36apart, so that in his frightful death-bed commission to Solomon there were loose ends
00:41still to be tied.
00:43In contrast, Nehemiah was a finisher.
00:46Paul had a driving ambition to be a finisher, and he succeeded.
00:51Preeminently, to the praise of God and our eternal security, the Lord Jesus Christ is
00:56the supreme example of the finisher.
00:59With what patience Moses carries through the tabernacle work, he receives the commission.
01:06In the original language there then is an abundance of the second personal singular
01:09verbs throughout chapters 25, 30 that represent Moses as the great doer.
01:15Bezalel is called by God, but he and his team are directed by Moses.
01:21It is Moses who inspects and approves their work, who is put in charge of the construction
01:26and who personally directs the details of the process of erection.
01:31All this is done with itemized care and planning.
01:34The recalcitrance of his people means that Moses is fighting his way forwards at every
01:38point.
01:40He has every incentive to give up in the face of daunting odds, but he does not.
01:46If we were to try to stand beside Moses the day the tabernacle is completed, words spring
01:50to mind—dedication, obedience, persistence, attention to detail, and devotion.
01:57We would have to write them all somehow into Moses' obituary.
02:01We should covet them for ourselves.
02:04Pilgrimage is not picnicking.
02:07Reflection
02:08Remember the admonishment.
02:10But not the one who puts on his armor boasts like the one who takes it off.
02:15Stand firm in your armor of God.
