00:00THE CHOSEN METALS.
00:02Every detail of the tabernacle is divinely commanded, including the fabrics and materials
00:07to be used.
00:09Nothing is left to human choice, nor does anything need adjustment in the course of
00:14construction.
00:15The chosen metals are gold, silver and bronze, and each is used appropriately to its place
00:20in the whole scheme.
00:23The altar of burned offering is of bronze.
00:26It is the place where the fire of divine holy wrath burns but is propitiated and satisfied
00:31by the substitutionary offerings made there.
00:35Bronze therefore symbolizes the satisfied and propitiated wrath of God.
00:40All the court curtains rest on bronze, including the pillars of the gate screen and the entrance
00:45curtain of the tent.
00:47Everything thus rests on a basis of substitution and propitiation, especially the entrance
00:52into the court and into the tent.
00:55The silver used is the redemption money of Israel, giving silver the symbolic significance
01:00of redemption, the payment of the covering price.
01:04All the hooks from which the curtains hang are silver.
01:07The wall boards of the tabernacle rest on silver sockets, and so do the pillars of the
01:12veil of the Holy of Holies.
01:15Redemption is that on which we depend and is the basis on which we rest, giving us our
01:19secure position before God.
01:22For the closer in we penetrate to where the Lord Himself dwells in holiness, the more
01:26everything is of gold.
01:29The first metal of the three.
01:31The boards are overlaid with gold, as are the pillars of the door curtain and of the
01:35screen curtain of the Holy of Holies.
01:38The only non-gold elements in the tabernacle are the bronze bases of the door screen, and
01:43the silver bases of the boards and of the inner sanctuary screen.
01:48In other words, we come via the way of substitutionary sacrifice and redemption payment into the
01:53pure gold of the Divine Presence.
01:57The source of much if not all this valuable metal is what Israel brought out as legitimate
02:01plunder from Egypt.
02:03The redeemed consecrate all the fruits of redemption to obey what the Lord commands,
02:08and to welcome in His presence at the center of their lives.
02:12Reflection
02:13Jesus is our temple, our entrance, and our forerunner.
