00:00Five-year-old Atticus is looking for his forever home.
00:05Six weeks ago, the staghound was found abandoned and malnourished on a heap of rubbish in Melbourne's
00:10West.
00:11The state that he was left in was pretty miserable.
00:15The level of neglect was pretty astonishing.
00:19But after receiving around-the-clock care at the lost dog's home, things are looking
00:23up.
00:24He had this glimmer of hope in his eyes that transferred over to me, and every day we've
00:30just been fighting and winning and achieving and superseding everybody's expectations.
00:36When Atticus first arrived at the lost dog's home six weeks ago, he weighed 12 kilograms,
00:41which is less than half his ideal weight.
00:43But today he's looking much healthier, weighing 27 kilograms, and is ready to be adopted.
00:48There's still a long journey ahead for Atticus.
00:50He'll need ongoing support over the next year.
00:53He just needs somebody that's going to provide him with that unconditional, supportive love.
00:59He's got a lot of different kind of special needs at the moment.
01:02After his ordeal, Atticus needs physiotherapy and has some behavioral challenges to work
01:06through.
01:07But he's taking it all in his stride.
01:09I think the level of resilience that this dog has is something that not many people
01:14even have.
01:15He's one strong dog who also loves a cuddle.
