00:00Hello everyone, this is Paul Branson here, and I'm giving you a movie that to me is not
00:07mentioned too much, and people don't really talk about it.
00:11It's called the movie Upgrade, it came out in 2018, and the director had his director
00:16debut.
00:18He directed and wrote a movie in 2015, Insidious Chapter 3, that unfortunately I've never seen,
00:27but prior to that he was just writing scripts.
00:29He never directed until 2015, Insidious Chapter 3, then in 2018 he wrote and directed Upgrade.
00:38It cost $3 million to make, and it made about $17 million in the box office.
00:43It has a 7.5 out of 10, and 80% in Rotten Tomatoes.
00:49So why didn't it make more money?
00:51It should have.
00:52It was only in selected cinemas, and that surprised me because it was such a well put
00:58together sci-fi thriller movie.
01:01But before I get into the movie, he also wrote and directed another movie in 2020 that did
01:06extremely well at the box office, The Invisible Man.
01:11And the cast to The Invisible Man was incredible.
01:15It got high reviews, it was praised a lot.
01:21So why not Upgrade?
01:22Upgrade, well 7.5 out of 10 is good, 80% in Rotten Tomatoes is good, so in a way it did.
01:30So why didn't it make more money?
01:31Now I'm going to get into this right away.
01:34The person who, the main actor in this, he did one other movie I've seen, and he played
01:41a mechanic called The Devil in 2010.
01:46And I was like, that's when I recognized him.
01:48I don't really recognize him in any other stuff, even though he has done quite a bit,
01:53I just never really saw those movies, sadly to say.
01:57But I like him in sci-fi, and I like him in horror.
02:01So he was a mechanic in this one as well, an old fashioned mechanic, because the way
02:06of the future in Upgrade was cars, you get in, you tell them where to take you, they'll
02:13take you, you don't even have to drive anymore.
02:16The future was, oh, you had a house that you would walk in, make me coffee, print me
02:21a pizza, print me a pizza, when they said that I kind of chuckled, I was like, print
02:27a pizza?
02:28I was like, why can't you make a pizza?
02:30And he was married to this woman, and her career was doing well, they're coming up with
02:36something for stem search, if someone gets paralyzed they can help them walk again.
02:42Something like that she was getting involved in.
02:46He was building an old fashioned car in the garage for this really expensive client, because
02:51he doesn't have any clients anymore, because people don't want old cars anymore, even so
02:56you can still drive on your own.
02:58It doesn't seem like it was against the law, because that's what he did, he was able to
03:03drive on his own, most people just want to get in the car.
03:07Like his wife wanted to print a pizza, he wanted to make a pizza, she said it takes
03:11too long.
03:12So Hirani got his wife and him to go and visit his client, to drop off this car so he can
03:18get a lift home by his wife, well not really a lift home, automatic car, I guess the automatic
03:24car could have just went with him, there was no one inside it, but he really wanted his
03:28wife to meet this person, and she was glad she did, because this person said no, you're
03:35not close to the stem cell research, we are, and chose a chip that will change the future
03:41of disease, or whatever.
03:44So now when they get back in their car, their car goes a different route, so there's an
03:51error in the car, and all of a sudden they get attacked, and the wife dies, and he gets
03:57paralyzed, but the rich guy can save him by putting the chip in him, and the chip can
04:04help him move again, but now he wants revenge, so this is a very well good movie, especially
04:10on 3 million dollars, wow, that impressed me, but it didn't impress me it wasn't in
04:16more theaters in 2018, I'm not sure why, Insidious Chapter 3 did extremely well at the box office,
04:24and you know the director directed that and wrote it, like he did this one, so why didn't
04:31they?
04:32Maybe because some of the actors didn't do too many things, or it was too low budget
04:36to go into a mainstream, they didn't advertise it well enough, and it's also a movie that
04:41doesn't get talked a lot about, there's twists and turns in this movie, and a lot of things
04:46you don't see coming, a very well put together movie that I personally give an 8 out of 10,
04:53because I did not see the twists and turns coming, and the action sequences are awesome,
04:59the center photography, some scenes are a little too dark, that kind of bothered me,
05:04I never did like dark scenes, but unfortunately that's just the way it is, Upgrade is well
05:09worth it, it's on Tubi right now, check it out, it probably won't be on there for too
05:13long, or if you haven't seen it, I do believe you will like it, maybe the movie itself was
05:19just ahead of it's time, who knows, obviously everyone, my name is Paul Branson, obviously
05:25I think my name is Paul Branson, check out Paul Branson Reviews and much more, have a
05:30wonderful day everyone, and thank you again for watching, and bye for now, and check out
05:37Upgrade, and even The Invisible Man in 2020, bye for now.
