00:00The Terengganu government has denied discriminating against other religions, following reports
00:07of a ban on female singers performing at a temple recently.
00:11According to state executive councillor Wantu Kairiwan Abdullah, the event was prohibited
00:16as it took place in an open space, violating state guidelines on entertainment and places
00:21of entertainment adopted in 2022.
00:24In a Facebook post, he said the guidelines only allow female artistes to perform for
00:28female audiences, with exceptions for mixed-gender audiences involving non-Muslims.
00:33He said since the performances would take place under a tent within the temple grounds
00:37and be visible to passers-by, they would attract both male and female audiences and not be
00:42exclusive to non-Muslims.
00:44Wantu Kairi maintained that the guidelines were being applied fairly and without discrimination
00:48against any parties.
00:50On Saturday, DAP Vice-Chairman Teresa Kok questioned whether the state government was
00:55extending the entertainment restrictions to non-Muslim communities.
00:59She urged the past-led state government to revoke the directive and respect non-Islamic
01:03cultural values.
