Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday visited Kerala's Wayanad - Mr Gandhi's Lok Sabha constituency - and offered messages of support to people there struggling to recover from devastating landslides that have killed over 300 so far with another 200 still missing. Saddened by the deaths caused by landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad, LoP Rahul Gandhi went on to say that "Today, I feel how I felt when my father died. Here people have not just lost a father but an entire family. We all owe these people respect and affection. The whole nation's attention is towards Wayanad."

00:04I remember what I felt when my father died and here people have not just lost a father,
00:10they've lost the whole family, entire family, brother, sister, mother, father.
00:15So I know what I felt and this is much worse than that.
00:18I'm not interested in politics right now.

00:35We've come here to see the situation.
00:40It's quite a painful experience to see how many people have lost family members, lost houses.
00:54It's very difficult to speak to people in these circumstances
00:57because really you don't know what to say to them, you know.
01:03So it's been quite a difficult day for me,
01:06but we are going to try and help make sure that the survivors get what is their due.
01:16A lot of them want to be relocated, so I hope the government takes that into account.
01:21There is still a lot of work to be done here, but it is a, it's a huge tragedy.
01:29I'd like to thank all the people who are working here, the doctors, the nurses, the administration, volunteers.
01:39I'm very proud of everyone who's working here, but it's very, very sad to see.
01:47Well, let's see, I mean, to me this is a national disaster for sure,
02:01but let us see, let us see what the government says.
02:05Look, I don't, I don't think this is the place or the time to talk about political issues.
02:19People here require help, so I think the time right now is to make sure that all the assistance comes.
02:29There are people here who are in shock.
02:31They need medical assistance, so I think those are the things we should be discussing.
02:36I'm not, let me finish, I'm not interested in politics right now.
02:41I'm interested in the people of Wayanad.
02:43I'm interested in them getting the best possible care, best possible protection,
02:48and, you know, being looked after for the future.
02:53Sir, you are connected to Wayanad, you are connected to Wayanad.
02:56It is very deep in your heart.
02:58So how do you feel after this disaster, that you are also a part of this system,
03:03and you are also part of this Wayanad?
03:08I feel, I feel how I felt when my father died, that I've seen so many people.
03:16I remember what I felt when my father died, and here people have not just lost a father.
03:23They've lost the whole family, entire family, brother, sister, mother, father.
03:29So I know what I felt, and this is much worse than that.
03:33And it's not one person who's feeling it, it's thousands of people who are feeling it.
03:37So it's very, very sad.
03:40And I think we all owe these people respect, affection, and we should all be standing with them.
03:49And I'm very proud that a lot of people are standing with the people of Wayanad.
03:54In fact, the whole nation's attention is towards Wayanad,
03:59and I'm sure that the whole nation is going to help the people of Wayanad.
