00:00DreamWorks' brand new series Curses is chock full of creepy creatures and eerie artifacts
00:04that are scattered throughout the Restricted Wing underneath Briarstone Manor.
00:08Even scarier, most of the series was inspired by myths, stories, and creatures from all
00:13around the world.
00:14So today, let's face our fears and count down 7 things from Curses that are prime nightmare
00:19fuel.
00:217.
00:22Ghosts.
00:23Cultures all over the world have stories about the spirits of those who have departed still
00:27roaming the Earth.
00:28And no matter what ghost you see, and no matter where you see it, one thing's for sure,
00:32seeing a ghost is frightening.
00:34Even if they're friendly.
00:356.
00:36The Faceless Not-Praboh.
00:38These mythical creatures are a type of Japanese supernatural spirit called a yokai, which
00:42are a bit like a ghost.
00:44They look like human beings, but one pretty important feature missing, their face.
00:48Not-Praboh are common in Japanese folklore, although they sometimes look and act a little
00:53bit different, depending on the story.
00:55But on Curses, the Not-Praboh are tall, slender, and sinister as they hover around silently
01:00trapping people in an ancient cursed painting.
01:26Yikes.
01:27It might be a myth, but it doesn't make the stories any less spooky.
01:305.
01:31Black Widow Spiders.
01:33Pretty much any spider crawling around on its eight legs is bound to give most people
01:36a fright, but Black Widows have earned an especially scary reputation.
01:55Females are about an inch and a half long and shiny black with a red hourglass pattern,
02:00but male Black Widows are actually brown or gray with small red spots and about half that
02:04size.
02:05But the truly frightening fact?
02:07This is crazy.
02:08Their poison is apparently 15 times stronger than rattlesnake venom.
02:1215 times!
02:13Luckily for us, Black Widows aren't aggressive and will only attack if they feel threatened.
02:18They prefer to live in solitude, left alone to catch prey in peace.
02:22And honestly, I'm okay with that.
02:244.
02:25Baby Dolls.
02:26There's nothing nicer at night than your beloved baby doll to snuggle close.
02:30And there's nothing more spine-chilling than a spooky doll creeping up close while
02:34you're shuddering under the covers.
02:363.
02:37The Half-Human Half-Seal.
02:39Also called a Selkie.
02:40Being half a big blubbery seal seems like it wouldn't be scary at all.
02:45It actually sounds kind of funny, but according to stories from Celtic myths, Selkies become
02:49human by shedding their seal's skin and then turn back into a seal by slipping the
02:54skin back on.
02:55Creepy.
02:57Celtic tales about Selkie are usually romantic tragedies, where a human and a Selkie fall
03:01in love.
03:02Over time, the Selkie will need to return to the sea, leaving their lover behind.
03:06But sometimes, a human might even try to hide a Selkie's seal skin to keep them from having
03:11to return to the ocean.
03:12And that's just what happened on Curses.
03:312.
03:32Spooky Secret Passageways.
03:34Nothing, and I mean nothing screams beware quite like a torch-lit secret passageway leading
03:39to who knows what.
03:41But surrounded by walls and shadows, what could be worse?
03:59Seemed harmless enough right?
04:01Not when the entrance leads to a dark, danky, creepy corridor with stairs leading deep underground.
04:06Yeah, no thanks.
04:08And finally, our absolute number one nightmare fuel.
04:13The Dark.
04:14It might be the most common fear on earth.
04:17And it's not too hard for any of us to understand why.
04:20Who knows what goes bump in the night.
04:28Fear of the dark is really more of a fear of the unknown, since you can't see what's
04:32in front of your face.
04:33It's easy to imagine all kinds of dangers lurking just out of sight.
04:37And the Curses gang knows all about that.
04:40Over thousands and thousands of years, humans have evolved a natural fear of the dark as
04:44a way to protect themselves from what they can't see.
04:47That's why it's so hard to avoid thinking of scary things lurking in the dark.
04:51Your brain is doing it on purpose to try and keep you safe.
04:54So that wraps our list.
04:56Hope we didn't spook you too much.
