00:00And that's where we'll begin here on the show today with some football.
00:07We'll go off the field, though, to begin.
00:08For those of you who are waiting to get your check from the NFL or from DirecTV for buying
00:14NFL Sunday ticket, well, I think you're going to have to wait a little bit longer for some
00:19reparations there because a judge has ruled that the jury did not act appropriately when
00:25they deemed the NFL was not in compliance with how much money they charged to people
00:30who purchased NFL Sunday ticket through the years via DirecTV, very specifically.
00:36Subscribers against the NFL said that the NFL did not do the right thing.
00:41They charged too much.
00:42They had a monopoly.
00:43But apparently, this U.S. District Judge, Phillip Gutierrez, made the remark saying
00:47that the jury did not understand the final reparations in terms of what they ruled and
00:53he may order a brand new trial because the eight-person jury came up with its own calculation
00:59for damages.
01:00So if you're looking for your mailbox or you're looking for your direct deposit to get a few
01:03hundred dollars back from your purchasing Sunday NFL ticket in, let's say, 2013, I don't
01:10think that's going to happen anytime soon.
01:12Stay tuned.
01:13All right.
01:14Paige Beckers, congratulations to her.
01:15How about this new NIL deal that she gets from Women's Basketball?
01:18I mean, this is just incredible.
01:20Think about this.
01:21She's the first NCAA athlete to receive ownership equity in a league.
01:26Beckers is expected to play in Unrivaled, which is a new league that allows players
01:31to have a share in the ownership.
01:33She's also going to play in the WNBA as well.
01:36So she'll have 10 to 15 percent ownership, which is what the pool is allowing.
01:40And essentially, there's a league cap for the 30 players, and that'll be about $7.5
01:45million and an average of $250,000.
01:48So Paige Beckers and some others cashing in, getting ownership of a new league, again,
01:52called Unrivaled.
01:53But again, still will play in the WNBA.
01:55All right.
01:56Venue Sports makes a big announcement.
01:57For those of you who are sick of streaming sports and paying for extra services, this
02:00story is not going to make you feel any better, because here's another one.
02:03Venue is a sports streaming platform through ESPN, Fox, Warner Brothers, and Discovery.
02:10The cost, $42.99.
02:12They will launch in the fall.
02:14It's being considered by some to be the equivalent of Hulu for sports.
02:19It'll include the NFL, the NBA, baseball, hockey, WNBA, NASCAR.
02:25And then if you're like me, you forget to cancel, or you don't even know how many subscriptions
02:28you have.
02:29I'm just not signing up for any new subscriptions right now.
02:31I got to keep it to a minimum.
02:33I need like a list somewhere to keep what I bought.
02:37I don't need a list to know what's going on at the Olympics, my producer Frank tells me.
02:40So this is pretty simple.
02:41Right now, Carlos Alcaraz comes back with a huge win at the Olympics in tennis.
02:45He was down 2-5 in the second set to Tommy Paul, and ends up reaching the semifinals.
02:49He'll play for a medal tomorrow, 11-match winning streak at Roland Garros as well.
02:54He's got that going on.
02:55Also, Lorenzo Mussetti beat Alexander Zverev.
03:00This just happened as well.
03:01Zverev, by the way, won the gold back in 2021.
03:03Keep an eye out later this afternoon for El Costa Coast 3 o'clock for more announcements
03:07there.
03:08Spytek loses this morning to Qin Wengjiang in the semifinals.
03:13Spytek was minus 250 to win the gold.
03:15She will not win it.
03:16It's the first loss for her since Roland Garros in 2021.
03:20Zhang has an opportunity from China to capture the gold, which would be incredible.
03:25I mean, this generally does not happen for their country, so congratulations to them.
03:29Also, Leon Marchand completed one of the most incredible doubles in swimming history on
03:34Wednesday night.
03:35200-meter butterfly, and then the 200-meter breaststroke about two hours apart at the
03:40Paris Games.
03:41I mean, two different competitions here, and two different strokes, and two Olympic records,
03:48and also two gold medals.
03:50So people are comparing Marchand to Michael Phelps, and I think that's fair at this point.
03:55He's had a great run.
03:56So has Katie Ledecky, eighth Olympic gold medal of her career, 12th medal overall with
04:01a runaway victory in the 1,500-meter freestyle Wednesday at the Paris Games.
04:05She also confirmed after the race she ain't going to retire.
04:08She wants to compete in LA in a few years, and she's only 27, so why not?
04:13So she ties fellow Americans Dara Torres, you heard her, Natalie Coughlin, and Jenny
04:17Thompson for the most medals ever by a female swimmer.
04:20Ledecky said that she doesn't care about history, so we'll just give it to her here.
04:25Top 20 times ever in women's 1,500-meter freestyle.
04:28I mean, it's kind of funny that we made this graphic, because you could just see how many
04:32times that she's done it.
04:33One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, the eighth fastest yesterday.
04:37And then I guess we have another graphic that's going to show you nine through 20.
04:41Did we emphasize the point here just how many times she has been able to win and has swum
04:48faster than anybody else?
04:49I think you got that there.
04:51All right.
04:52So now the other story that's percolating from the Olympics, among others, as you may
04:56have heard, has been this Canadian women's soccer team that's been penalized for spying
05:02on another.
05:03In fact, their coach is out, and they were docked points in the Olympics.
05:06But that has not stopped them.
05:07They continue to win.
05:08So keep an eye on this story as we go, too.
05:11Vanessa Giles is on Team Canada, scored the 62nd minute, and Canada wins one to nothing
05:17over Colombia.
05:18And now they're in the quarterfinals in Paris.
05:20Again, they've lost six points in the tournament because of the drone that they flew over to
05:25beat New Zealand.
05:26They probably didn't even need to do it anyway.
05:28But regardless, Bev Priestman is out.
05:30Team Canada rolls on.
05:32As far as on the basketball court for Team USA, there were 30-point favorites yesterday.
05:37There was never any opportunity for them to cover that spread, if you watched it, although
05:41the game did go under the total of 191.
05:43103 to 86 yesterday, Team USA beat South Sudan, and they're 2-0 in Olympic play.
05:51And now they're in the quarterfinals.
05:53The bench had 66 points for them.
05:55Joel Embiid, by the way, never got off the bench.
05:57Jason Tatum ended up playing in the starting lineup.
06:00Bam Adebayo had a big game off the bench, 18 points, 8-for-10 shooting.
06:04The U.S. men still the favorite to win the gold.
06:07As far as this three-on-three men's competition, I don't know if you've seen this.
06:11This is new to the Olympics.
06:14It's a three-on-three tournament.
06:15Team USA is just not faring pretty well here.
06:18Jimma Ferdet, who is the lead of that team, they end up losing 19-7 to Poland on Wednesday
06:24night.
06:25They're 0-2 in this three-on-three play.
06:28Also, Coco Gauff is now out of the Olympics.
06:30She lost in the women's doubles and mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
06:35And really, really tough run for her.
06:37She said, quote, at the end of the day, it's over 20 years old, she'll take the positive
06:40out of it.
06:41Still very young.
06:42Coco Gauff can compete in L.A. in four years.
06:44Also, Simone Bas, on the other hand, she decided to jump back into the Olympics again.
06:48And boy, that has gone well.
06:50There's a chance that she can aim for the gold later today.
06:54So we'll see what happens.
06:55Keep an eye on her on the mat.
06:57And she'll compete in the gymnastics all-around final.
07:00And eight years ago, she earned the gold.
07:01And here she is, eight years later, competing again.
07:04Over in Major League Baseball, Jackson Holliday recalled by the Baltimore Orioles.
07:08They placed Jordan Westberg on the injured list.
07:10And Holliday ended up hitting his first career home run.
07:12It was a grand slam in the game for the O's yesterday.
07:15He almost hit a second home run as well.
07:17Westberg, by the way, was hit by a 95-mile-an-hour fastball in the fifth inning.
07:20He's going to be out for an extended period of time.
07:22You would imagine Holliday is not going to go down now anytime soon.
07:26They just traded one of their other infielders to Miami.
07:29Jack Flaherty, there was a lot of teams interested in him at the trade deadline.
07:32L.A. was the one who made the deal.
07:34Apparently, there were some imaging issues, some medical issues.
07:37But that didn't stop the Dodgers from acquiring him.
07:39Some other teams, not so much.
07:41Clayton Kershaw, by the way, had a streak of 432 regular season starts with one strikeout come to an end.
07:46He's just coming back off injury.
07:48The Padres ended up winning that game 8-1.
07:50Over to the National Football League.
07:52A new contract for an offensive lineman.
07:55The guy who used to protect Tom Brady is now protecting Baker Mayfield and their quarterback.
07:59It's Tristan Wirfs.
08:00A five-year deal, $140 million contract extension for the highest-paid offensive lineman in football.
08:06Jonah Jackson for the Rams was hurt yesterday in practice.
08:09And no word on how long he'll be out.
08:12We'll know later today.
08:12They're on the West Coast.
08:14NFL game tonight, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears.
08:17It is the Hall of Fame game.
08:19Houston's a slight favorite.
08:20If you bet on it, you're crazy, but just go right ahead and don't tell them I told you so.
08:24Gordon Hayward fires in the NBA after 14 NBA seasons.
