00:00on her first official day as a sports grid employee. So we're
00:07very glad to have Casey here for all of this final half an
00:11hour of our second hour. But of course, Casey has long been a
00:15great guest on this network with her puck talk knowledge around
00:18the National Hockey League and I cannot wait for this segment
00:22because of one name that I see here in notable offseason moves
00:26for Matt they Mitch Cov and the Philadelphia Flyers, but I'll
00:30let Donnie ask about that Casey. We start at the top the
00:34San Jose Sharks draft Macklin celebrating first overall out
00:39of Boston University. His dad worked in the sports medicine
00:43side for the Golden State Warriors. So he knows Northern
00:46California. Maybe not the ceremony that was Conor
00:49Bedard the prince that was frozen promised excuse me drafted
00:54last summer by the Chicago Blackhawks, but still a notable
00:57first-round selection and first overall pick for the San Jose
01:01Sharks. What do you think celebrities instant impact is
01:04going to be for San Jose?
01:07Yeah, hoping the further declares to stick with San Jose
01:10and I'm thinking that their offseason moves may have made
01:12that a more attractive offer, but you're looking at a guy
01:15that's going to be a solid two-way plug for this team.
01:18He makes plays happen. He's not afraid to be physical and his
01:21ability to generate offense and get plays going and find
01:24the back of the net. This is what this team needs. You're
01:26talking about the worst NHL team last season trying to make
01:30more of a push this upcoming season and they grabbed some
01:33great guys to do just that. They've got some depth now on
01:37their top six. They've got solid top six guys that hopefully
01:40celebrating being a part of that. You got Will Smith and
01:42Charlotte some strides last year as well or as well will
01:46Fresh Prince of Bel Air. So I think that he's going to be
01:48plugging into something, you know, that's going to entice
01:52him to bring his game from the collegiate level to the NHL.
01:56And I think he's going to be able to match that pace very
01:58quickly out the gate. I'm excited about this. It's thickened
02:01his move.
02:02All the excitement about Macklin Celebrini. If we take out
02:05the FanBlue Sportsbook right now and take a look at the
02:07Calder Memorial Trophy award-winning numbers for this
02:11season. He's not in first place in that awards market right
02:14now. It is Matt Vey Mitchcoff of the Philadelphia Flyers, a
02:17dormant fan base in Philadelphia ready to rise and shine.
02:22Mitchcoff is here. Does that mean Casey the Flyers are
02:25anticipated to win a Stanley Cup over the next 16 months?
02:28How about that? Not six years, 16 months.
02:32I don't think I've tracked a player so hard just for Donnie,
02:35but yes, you're right.
02:38Mitchcoff was everything and this kid is ready to let's say
02:42bring more sunshine to Philadelphia. That's for sure.
02:45But I will say this, as for them being a Stanley Cup contender
02:49right now, not so much. Some of my favorite players that
02:53were holding down the back end of the ice for them aren't
02:56there. So I just want to see what their defensive structure
02:59is going to look like, but they did become one of the strongest
03:01defensive teams in the NHL gearing towards the end of the
03:04season there. They have a chance now to work with their
03:07goaltender and get him more acclimated rather than throwing
03:10him in at the end of the season having these expectations.
03:12So the foundation is stronger. Ability to win out is going
03:16to be stronger. Maybe make a playoff appearance, but as for
03:20Stanley Cup talk, we're probably still looking at another
03:23two years, but it's great for them to finally have a score
03:25because they were able to keep pups out of their net to a
03:27good degree, but they weren't able to find the back of the
03:29net themselves and Mitchcoff is going to be a huge part of
03:31that. There you saw all the individual races and the awards
03:36odds. Connor McDavid, the favorite to win the heart. That's
03:39the NHL MVP. Austin Matthews should be tickling the twine
03:43all year long. What a list for Donnie personally. Matt
03:46Bay-Mitchcoff, the favorite to win the Calder, which is the
03:49rookie of the year. Jeremy Swayman, his guy in net for the
03:52bees. One of the co-favorites to win the Vezina. That is the
03:56top goaltender in the National Hockey League. Two key
03:59departures this summer for Tampa Bay. Casey Hudson leaving
04:05Florida to go to New Jersey to join the Sports Grid Network
04:08and Stephen Stamkos, one of the icons of the Lightning
04:11franchise there in Tampa, leaves for Nashville. Casey,
04:15what do you think will have greater ramifications on
04:18Florida? Me? No, I'm kidding. Stamkos, hearts are shattered
04:24from the Stamkos situation, especially because there wasn't
04:26much explanation behind it. There's a lot of things that
04:30are just going to be kept flip tight there. But look, the
04:32Nashville Predators might be the new misfits acquiring Jonathan
04:36Marchesso, who's played with Stephen Stamkos beforehand.
04:38Their top six is just ridiculous. Their defense shapely,
04:42they're both ending sharp. So you're looking at a
04:45team that you might want to keep an eye on and maybe sprinkle
04:48some change on before heading into the NHL season. Casey
04:52Hudson, always giving you those early looks here on the early
04:55line. And now all across the Sports Grid Network. Again,
04:59Casey, welcome to the Spiz Grizz. We are so glad to have
05:02you here. Enjoy the move. I know the movers are coming in
05:05like 10 minutes, so we'll let you get to that. We look forward
05:08to seeing you in New Jersey very, very soon. Hour number
05:12three up next on the early line.
