00:03 For the NBA finals, Joe, we are waiting even longer for
00:07 the Stanley Cup final as they will not begin until Saturday night.
00:12 In sunrise between the Panthers and the Oilers,
00:15 the nice 3000 plus mile distance between those two cities,
00:20 which is gonna be fun, that is another one.
00:23 You think that it's bad hearing about Kyrie Irving in Boston over the next few
00:28 days, wait till you hear how much complaining from media members that they
00:32 have to try to fly from South Florida all the way to Edmonton a couple of times back
00:36 and forth if this series goes six or seven games, that will be nauseating as well.
00:41 But Joe, we have ourselves a fun series.
00:43 Florida is back here after losing in the finals last year.
00:46 You have Edmonton with Connor McDavid and
00:48 Dry Sidle making their first appearance in the Stanley Cup final.
00:52 Let's hear from Florida Panther head coach, Paul Maurice, to kick us off.
00:56 We love Paul here on C2C.
00:58 And how about facing McDavid and the crew?
01:00 First thoughts, coach?
01:02 >> These two men,
01:03 it's just that you can't play a one on one game with them.
01:10 They're just too fast, too strong, too skilled.
01:12 So it's a five man defensive game and
01:15 everything else has kind of come out of my mouth to be a cliche.
01:18 Sometimes there's a reason for it, right?
01:21 Those cliches stick around because they're true.
01:24 We can't do anything to generate offense for Edmonton,
01:26 they're gonna generate their own.
01:27 And we have to be mindful of the position that we are in on change of possessions.
01:32 But we can't be in a passive position worrying about that all night long.
01:38 >> Spoken like a true therapist.
01:39 >> All right, Joe, let's just wipe all that away from Paul right there.
01:42 Because Paul didn't say the thing that's gonna be the most important.
01:45 And I'm sure he's probably got like five more media sessions between now and
01:49 Saturday and eventually the topic's gonna come up.
01:52 And that's what it is.
01:53 Here's what this comes down to, Joe, because guess what?
01:55 We've been watching the playoffs for a long time.
01:57 And let's just even take this year's playoffs and
01:59 put that right in the hopper as well.
02:01 This series is gonna be won by which power play is gonna score more.
02:06 Five on five has been very even throughout these entire playoffs,
02:10 really Joe, in almost every matchup.
02:12 These series have swung on special teams.
02:16 You saw it with how Edmonton beat Dallas the other night to advance.
02:20 Two power play goals in the first period, held the fort.
02:23 Their penalty kill has done 28 straight kills.
02:26 You have Florida coming in.
02:27 They have been extremely stingy.
02:29 Both teams are not going to allow much five on five.
02:33 Can Edmonton's power play, which is the best in the league,
02:37 are they gonna be able to score on a very good Florida Panther penalty kill?
02:41 And will Florida score on an Edmonton penalty kill that stopped 28 straight
02:45 power plays?
02:45 That, Joe, is as simple as it gets with who's gonna win this series.
02:49 >> Well, I mean, that's the X's and O's standpoint.
02:52 And that's why they call you the Hockney Whisperer because-
02:55 >> Chalk talk, Joe.
02:56 >> I mean, I had to do a double take and look at you on the screen.
02:59 I thought I was talking to Barry Melrose there for a second.
03:03 I mean, that was so eloquent.
03:04 It was unbelievable.
03:06 Here's my take on the situation, okay?
03:08 And you're absolutely right from the X's and O's standpoint.
03:11 But this game's gonna be one of them lost on how dirty can Florida get?
03:15 Can they muscle and knock around McDavid and Drysidal?
03:19 Because Dallas couldn't do it.
03:21 The other teams in the West couldn't do it.
03:23 This is an Eastern Conference team.
03:25 They got here on grit and work ethic and just staving off power plays to the New
03:31 York Rangers, another blue collar team.
03:33 If they can knock around McDavid, and I mean knock him around,
03:37 hit him into the boards, give him an elbow.
03:40 Maybe you take a four minute major to get things started.
03:43 Set the tone early and put McDavid and Drysidal on their ass.
03:48 Florida will win it.
03:49 You know what?
03:49 I don't want Edmonton.
03:50 It's Florida right now.
03:52 I'm picking Florida.
03:54 And I'll tell you this about Maurice.
03:55 That's a good start.
03:56 Let's give them a five minute major at the start of the series.
04:00 That's it.
04:00 Give them a five minute major.
04:01 Set the tone.
04:02 Let's go.
04:02 Give them a five minute major.
04:03 That's an intention.
04:03 Send a message right out of the gate.
04:04 Yeah.
04:05 It's an intention.
04:05 I just told you it's gonna be completely decided on special teams.
04:09 That's it.
04:09 Give them the five minute major.
04:10 Give them the five minute major.
04:13 I thought you told me last night you were on Edmonton.
04:15 I was.
04:16 But after-- no.
04:19 Too much.
04:20 I was.
04:21 But you know what?
04:22 No more.
04:23 I switched.
04:23 I rarely do this.
04:25 But I'm tired of you.
04:26 Because you set it up.
04:27 McDavid, Drysidal.
04:29 I'm already sick of the both of them.
04:31 And they never put money in our pocket.
04:33 So you know what?
04:34 We're going with Florida.
04:35 Because I know what will happen.
04:36 If I bet Edmonton, this guy McDavid, this hack, right, won't score a point the whole
04:43 series and they'll get shut out.
04:44 So better to go against them than with them.
04:48 So let's do Mavericks and Panthers both to win the series at plus 395.
04:53 All right.
04:53 Series bet.
04:54 Series parlay.
04:56 Panthers, Mavericks, Joe.
04:58 Put them together.
04:59 No, forget the games.
05:00 We can mess around with all that stuff on the side.
05:02 Just straight up to win the series.
05:04 Panther, Maverick, parlay.
05:05 Plus 395.
05:06 Let's go.
05:07 All right.
05:07 Let's do it.
05:08 I'll do it.
05:09 All right.
05:09 Look at that.
05:10 We're together on one.
05:11 It's nice to see.
05:11 We don't get it often.
05:12 But we're together on one there.
05:14 We don't get it often because you disagree with me on every turn.
05:17 That's why.
05:19 That's not true.
05:20 That's not true at all, Joe.
05:21 You've got to be like Paul Maurice.
05:24 Maurice.
05:24 He's a therapist.
05:25 Game one is Saturday night.
05:28 Panthers are minus 135 on Saturday night.
05:31 Oilers are plus a buck 15.
05:32 And 5 and 1/2.
05:33 I like the unders in these Panther games, Joe.
05:36 They're all tight.
05:38 Now look, will there be a game or two that probably goes over?
05:41 Sure.
05:41 There was one in the Rangers series.
05:42 Five of the six games went under.
05:44 This team clearly has more skill and speed with Edmonton.
05:48 And I'm not sure yet, Joe, how effective they're
05:51 going to be on that 5 on 5.
05:54 But I think that the majority of these games
05:55 will be under the 5 and 1/2, just like the Panther series.
05:58 And listen, the Oilers star games, Joe,
06:01 were trending to the under, especially late in the series
06:03 as well.
06:04 I like the under as well.
06:05 The only thing that scares me, Carver, and you'll agree,
06:09 is Skinner.
06:10 I mean, I know I joke around about the--
06:12 Yeah.
06:12 I'm done with it.
06:13 Sometimes you're done with it.
06:15 You're done.
06:16 I'm done with being--
06:18 everybody being worried about Skinner.
06:19 When you have gotten through three rounds
06:21 and you have gotten to this point,
06:23 I think that that conversation's over.
06:25 That's a first round conversation.
06:27 It's a second.
06:28 When you've won three series and you've won 12 games
06:31 and gotten to this point, you're good enough to win it, Joe.
06:35 Series price, as I mentioned to you--
06:36 I only gave you that parlay number.
06:38 I didn't give you the full price-- is minus $130 for Florida
06:41 and plus $1.10 for Edmonton.
06:44 We're on Florida.
06:45 We're putting it with the Mavericks.
06:47 You want to put it with the golf too?
06:48 You want to throw a third leg in there?
06:49 You want to put it with the golf?
06:51 Toasty?
06:51 Toasty round one?
06:52 Toasty not in this week.
06:54 Elevated event.
06:55 Elevated event this week, Joe.
06:56 Grillo?
06:57 Round one leader?
06:59 No.
07:00 I can't go with you on that.
07:02 How about instead of something that's
07:04 going to end the ticket by Thursday, maybe like--
07:06 Want to go with the Italian?
07:07 Maybe like somebody for a top 20 or something like that.
07:10 How about Malnati?
07:12 Why do we have to take the bottom two or three
07:14 guys on the odds board and play them?
07:17 Why do we have to do that?
07:18 Because I'm a believer in the underdog, unlike you.
07:21 I like the hardworking guys.
07:25 I just don't go with the fluff like the golf syndicate
07:27 on the network.
07:29 So suddenly, you're the hardhat guy around here,
07:32 is what you're telling me.
07:33 You're the hardhat guy.
07:34 I don't think it was ever in doubt.
07:36 I don't think it was ever in doubt.
07:38 Yeah, granted, I look like I should be an A-lister,
07:41 but that's besides the point.
07:42 I mean, don't let the hair fool you.
07:44 I mean, personality is all blue collar.
07:47 I mean, just because I look like a movie star
07:49 doesn't mean anything.
07:50 I mean, what do you want me to say?
07:52 The Florida Panthers are the third team, Joe,
07:55 in the last 40-plus years that lost the Stanley Cup final
07:59 and came back to it the next year.
08:01 The last two to do it, the Penguins
08:03 did cash in in '09 after they lost,
08:06 and the Oilers cashed in in '84 after they lost.
08:10 Of course, the other two were really back in the '70s,
08:12 the Bruins and the Blues.
08:14 But the last two that did this, Joe, have cashed in.
08:17 So hopefully, Florida is able to continue that pattern
08:21 and be able to get it done.
08:22 For the cons mights, of course, McDavid is the favorite.
08:26 As you look at the board, as he is now 2-1.
08:29 Bobrovsky and Barkoff are 4.
08:31 Kachuk is 6.
08:32 Dreisaitl for 7.
08:34 Bouchard plus 750.
08:36 And then you get some big numbers
08:37 with Verhegen and Reinhardt.
08:38 Remember this, Joe.
08:40 This is different than the NBA.
08:42 The NBA is just for the finals and who
08:46 plays in those games between Boston and Dallas.
08:49 The cons might is for the entire Stanley Cup playoffs,
08:54 which is why--
08:55 I mean, we would probably like taking a shot with Dreisaitl,
08:58 something like that.
08:59 At this point, he'd probably need
09:01 to go bonkers in the final to be able to--
09:05 if Edmonton wins, it's going to be McDavid, right, Joe?
09:07 But I think on the Florida side, which we like,
09:11 there may be some chances there.
09:13 Even Bobrovsky's number as the top Florida guy, Joe,
09:16 I think is pretty good at 4-1.
09:18 Him and Barkoff, it's a pretty good number.
09:20 It is a good number.
09:21 I like Verhegen, though.
09:23 Let's take Verhegen.
09:24 Want to take a deep shot on Forsling?
09:26 Let's go.
09:27 Look at me throwing out the names.
09:28 Forsling.
09:29 It's not going to be Forsling, Joe.
09:31 It's going to be Bobrovsky, Barkoff, or Kachuk.
09:35 Why not Verhegen?
09:38 Let me finish.
09:39 Verhegen is really far back from them.
09:42 He would need, like, a couple overtime winners in the final.
09:45 Why can't he do that?
09:46 I don't understand.
09:47 Maybe he can.
09:48 He's been Mr. Overtime the last couple of years.
09:50 So then why don't we take him?
09:51 But you're talking about something
09:52 that's very difficult to do.
09:54 I think we should focus our efforts more
09:57 on Bobrovsky and Kachuk.
09:58 I think that those are the guys that we focus our efforts on.
10:00 You're saying he's got no shot.
10:04 I'm saying he's--
10:05 I'm not going to say he's got no shot.
10:06 I'm going to say he's a long shot for a reason.
10:10 That's what I'm going to say.
10:11 He's a long shot for a reason.
10:12 It would--
10:12 You're sold.
10:13 It would take a lot.
10:14 That's all I need to know.
10:15 That's all I need to know now.
10:16 It would take a lot, I think.
10:17 Remember this.
10:18 Who said four overtime games in the Rangers series?
10:22 Did we take it?
10:24 That's all I'm going to say.
10:26 Who was right?
10:27 I didn't.
10:27 Did you talk me out of that?
10:29 I didn't take it.
10:30 I didn't take it because of you.
10:32 Take for Hagee.
10:33 What's for Hagee's number?
10:36 If they put it back up on the screen,
10:37 I believe it was 25 to 1.
10:40 There you go, Luke.
10:40 25 to 1.
10:42 That's a great number.
10:44 That's a great number, and he's all around the net.
10:47 (upbeat music)
