00:00Okay boys, you know the rules, remember obey my commands at all times, defend yourselves
00:07at all times.
00:08God bless.
00:09Touch gloves.
00:10Victor Loughlin, the referee, a light heavyweights division, absolutely packed with elite level
00:20quality in Great Britain.
00:24Ezra Taylor from the same amateur gym in Nottingham as Eko Esselman, who has stunned the crowd
00:30here in Birmingham already tonight.
00:32Now it is Taylor's turn to try to steal the show in against Carlos Alberto Lameyla.
00:40And he's apparently not going to need to go looking for him.
00:47Lameyla, from what we've heard, knows how to get it done early.
00:53He won the Spanish national title in the first round.
00:56I'll tell you what, Paul is making the mistakes here at Lameyla, he's really going for it
01:03in terms of his own, especially that right hand over the top, but he's closing the gap
01:06down and fair play to Taylor, he's just tucked up, he's caught him with his right hand, he's
01:10caught him with the left also, it's been very good boxing from Taylor, he's just capitalising
01:16on the mistakes that Lameyla is making here.
01:20Nice and tidy as you say, Taylor, so far, Richie, in terms of ability, a lot of people
01:36are aware that Taylor is on the radar so to speak, but Ezra Taylor will be 30 years of
01:43age in a couple of weeks.
01:45Let's hope that the best is in front of him, there's a lot to like so far.
01:49You can see how he's got caught with the left hook a couple of times here, Lameyla, Paul,
01:55his right hand is far too low, so when Taylor gets in close, then he's certainly open to
02:01that shot.
02:02See, look how low his land is now, just in front of the chin, looking for that right
02:06hand over the top, but even on the inside there, the right hand is far too low, so you've
02:10got to watch out for the left hook from Taylor.
02:15It's very refreshing to hear Taylor's own assessment of his performance against Prince
02:25Okonate, when he seemed to have the measure of his man on numerous occasions in the early
02:30part of the fight, before it actually went into the fourth round, there's no reason to
02:34be downcast about the win, still very much at the learning stage, we know he's heavy
02:40handed Richie, six stoppage wins in the eight professional contests so far before tonight,
02:48Taylor, and nice and sharp he looks.
02:49Yeah he does, he looks on the money tonight, Paul, lovely jab from him, like I say he's
02:55tucking up nice, his opponent Lameyla is a little bit unorthodox, that's a cracking right
03:00hand, so good stuff here from Ezra Taylor, Lameyla already aware that there might be
03:08a step up in terms of power, coming from the other man, compared to most of his recent
03:13outings, certainly Taylor's looking nice and polished, that's it, you've still got to set
03:26those attacks up behind that jab, just measure the distance, that's what Taylor's got to
03:31do, but a good round for him.
03:56Ezra Taylor in the spotlight on TNT Sports, here from Birmingham tonight, Richie what
04:18about the start he made?
04:19I thought it was a terrific opening round against someone he doesn't know a lot about,
04:23who's a bit unorthodox and throws wild shots from different angles, but Ezra Taylor there
04:28he kept nice and sharp, and like I say he produced a good opening round, he was spot
04:34on there, scheduled 10 rounds, light heavyweight, oh there's that left hook Paul, that's the
04:45shot I spoke about, what a punch that was on the inside, didn't travel very far, but
04:50La Mena certainly felt it, the best I can say for Taylor Richie is he looks so much
05:09more experienced than the actual career profile, this is a man who apparently did not box at
05:15all until he was 19 years of age, taught by the guys and girls at the Nottingham gym,
05:25Bilborough Community ABC, Ray Ricketts who is actually second to the chief second in
05:32that corner tonight, he did an amazing job with him as indeed he did with Esserman many
05:36years earlier, and he's been learning on the job as the professionals say over the last
05:42few years, given of course again that he turned pro in 2020 when there was nothing
05:46happening for two years, absolutely and they have done a good job with him, but yes he
05:52seems to box very well for someone who's only had 8 or 9 contests as Ezra Taylor, he's producing
06:02some good work here, the quality of his work, quality of his punching is very good indeed,
06:07the technique that he's delivering the shots with, yeah it's excellent, so he's had good
06:13coaching. I don't think La Mena was as troubled as maybe some people at the back of the hall
06:22thought they were, Taylor walking him across the ring on the diagonal right across, shots
06:30keep raining in on the Cuban, based in Barcelona we understand for a lot of his career, most
06:40of his fights in that area, Catalonia. In these situations Paul, you must keep working
06:50with the jab, breaking your opponent down which will create opportunities and openings,
06:56mustn't neglect that shot, you can probably see that he wants to knock the guy out, he's
07:01trying to land shots like that, but he's got to set that up, measure that distance a little
07:04bit better, there you go, that wasn't too far away, but he's got to use his lead hand
07:08a little bit more.
07:18Quite a few of these shots La Mena, but it's a very risky strategy as he demonstrated awareness
07:25of to stay in the corner, he moved away very impressively there, and he's got to another round.
07:55Two good runs in the bank for Ezra Taylor against Carlos Alberto on La Mena so far,
08:19there is a title on the line tonight, the vacant WBC international belt, grabbing it
08:25very firmly with both hands is Taylor's objective, he set about the task quite impressively.
08:33Punch stats from Jabba once more tonight on TNT Sports, but Rich you want to see him back
08:40boxing is that correct? Yeah I think so, I think he's got to set up the attack a little
08:45bit better with Jab, his lead hand, I think because he's had good success with that right
08:50hand over the top, that's not a bad shot, and I like to, like I said before, I like
08:54to see him throw that left hook on the inside, that's good stuff. He flashes his work, his
09:00excellence I must say. He's not in against a punch back per se is he, he's in against
09:07the guy who knows how to take a shot. Yes he's a tough guy isn't he La Mena, there's
09:10no doubt about that, and that's why the importance of the lead hand, just to break him down a
09:14little bit more, good right hand over the top from Taylor again, and La Mena, he certainly
09:21hasn't got Cuban skills, but he has got toughness, and that's probably from his Spanish roots
09:25also remember, but certainly Taylor, he's boxing well, it's important not to get frustrated
09:32here Paul, you know he's winning every round and he's looking good, but can't get frustrated
09:38that's why he's got to keep working behind his boxing, set up these attacks, and then
09:41hopefully the stoppage will come.
09:44It all fell into place when I went back to my boxing, and it seems like a repeat in that sense.
10:03See in terms of technique Richie, they can teach him, even though he's a slow starter,
10:07they can teach him so much in the gym, but you cannot replicate competitive experience
10:12can you, all the grades of amateur boxing, and having to find a way to win fights, it's
10:17different if you are Taylor isn't it, I think we should bear that in mind with him.
10:21Yes exactly Paul, he's spot on, and he's literally learning on the job isn't he Taylor,
10:27as we've said before, he's not doing too badly at all, and in this contest he's winning every
10:35round against a stubborn opponent, that wasn't too bad from La Mena.
10:42Taylor just got to edge forward, close that gap a little bit better, with that lead hand
10:46of his, create that space on the inside, look for these openings, and like I say that left
10:52hook's the shot for me, that could do the damage.
10:56I think the importance of this title belt tonight is also that it will just let him
11:01somewhere into the top end of the rankings, maybe top 15 or something like that in Britain
11:07with so many high quality light heavyweights, it's very difficult to do it if you just
11:11consign to 8th round class in British terms, which is where he would be otherwise, that's
11:15the point really, from Josh Boazzi, Callum Smith, Anthony Yard, Willie Hutchinson who's
11:20in the best form of his career, Lyndon Arthur, Dan Aziz, Craig Richards who we saw recently,
11:26Ben Whittaker's only just in the box rack top 10, that's how hard it is.
11:30Solomon Dakers is another talent, trying to find some room at heavyweight, he's involved
11:35tonight and he's speaking to Danny Jamieson now.
11:39So you've had a proper camp ahead of this tonight, how much of a difference do you think
11:42that could make?
11:43Big, big difference, like night and day isn't it, preparation, boxing, it's everything,
11:47so yeah, big, big difference.
11:49How excited are you to get out there and just show everybody what you're capable of?
11:52Yeah, exactly that, show what I'm really capable of and, you know, I'm really excited
11:57about what I'm really capable of and, you know, I've put all the hard work in so it
12:01should show now when I get in the ring.
12:03Expecting anything different from the first match-up?
12:05Yeah, everything's just going to be better, everything's going to be better.
12:09Wish you the best of luck.
12:10Thank you very much.
12:14So Dakers against Michael Webster at heavyweight is one of two rematches, the top of the bill
12:19in a couple of hours from now here, live on TNT Sports, the rematch at middleweight between
12:25Nathan Heaney and Brad Pauls.
12:27First one, absolutely tremendous fight, one of Britain's fights of the year actually.
12:37Yeah, really looking forward to that one, the rematch.
12:41And let's see if Retailer can get this stoppage here, he's won every round.
12:47And all those boxers you mentioned earlier, Paul, it's a great light heavyweight division
12:52in this country and he wants to be in that mix, doesn't he?
12:55And although this is only his ninth contest, I think he has the potential to move into
12:59that bracket, most certainly.
13:01And he needs an impressive display here.
13:04Tonight it's been good, but to get a stoppage here against a tough opponent, that's what
13:09he'll be aiming for here.
13:12Potential is the key word.
13:16I think there'll be a lot of trainers watching on TNT Sports tonight, enviously looking at
13:21the natural gifts of Ezra Taylor.
13:24But he has stayed true to his roots.
13:28As I mentioned, Ray Ricketts influence on his career from the time he first started
13:32showing interest in boxing and in the last couple of years, based at the world class
13:38Loughborough University complex.
13:40Angel Fernandes taking charge of his career.
13:45Fraser Clarke and Richard Rearper share the stable there, I understand.
13:54Yeah, a couple of good shots there from LaMela.
13:58That wasn't too bad on the inside.
14:00A little bit of a response there from Taylor.
14:03He knows he got caught there.
14:04This is better from him.
14:05And this is where he's got to go for it now, Paul.
14:07Short to mid-range, he's got to work a little bit harder, I think, Ezra Taylor.
14:12Trying to learn in this contest.
14:14LaMela now going to Southport.
14:16Trying to make things awkward.
14:18I'd like to see Taylor probably get a little bit close.
14:22And then whip those shots across the body.
14:25Right hand, left hook, most certainly.
14:28He might be a little bit leaky.
14:29That's a good shot there from Taylor.
14:31Technology is such by LaMela, but he takes it.
14:35And he stands his ground.
14:38Good shot.
14:40Richard, not that way.
14:42Not that way.
15:07He knocked out his opponent, Mansour Elvayev, in Vienna.
15:14While he's on his feet, he still believes he can do the same to Taylor, I reckon.
15:19Yeah, he comes into the contest with confidence, doesn't he?
15:22Oh, there's that left hook.
15:23Not too far away there, Taylor.
15:37Remember me.
15:39I'm the one who had you, baby.
15:50Remember me.
15:52I'm the one who had you, baby.
15:59Remember me.
16:01Remember me.
16:02I'm the one who had you, baby.
16:06Meet him, and then initiate yourself.
16:08Yeah?
16:10You threw six wide, so it's okay.
16:12Come on, champ.
16:13Watch his elbows.
16:14This is what worries me, champ.
16:15This is what worries me.
16:16And you're fucking one of them, okay?
16:17You're one of them, bro.
16:18You're one of them.
16:20Come on, man.
16:21That's what you do first.
16:22Force him to stretch.
16:24Second round.
16:27Round one.
16:54I'd say, I'd go so far to say, Rich,
16:56the ideal opponent at this stage in his career.
16:58Would you agree?
16:59Yes, I think he really is an awkward opponent, isn't he?
17:05He's underestimated the mailer.
17:09He's only been stopped once,
17:10and that was way back in his fifth contest.
17:12But, yeah, he's proven very awkward.
17:14And one of the reasons is, Paul,
17:16is most of the time he's on his back foot,
17:18and it's always difficult to actually knock an opponent out
17:21or stop them when they're moving backwards.
17:24That's why I like to see, as with Taylor,
17:26work his way in with the jab.
17:27But when he gets in close, that was a cracking shot.
17:29Right to the gut on the inside there.
17:31He's downstairs.
17:33Yeah, quality shot again from Taylor.
17:35Lovely work.
17:36This is where I want to see him do his better work, Taylor.
17:39Because he's covering all well on the inside.
17:41Nothing's really hurting him.
17:43I just think he'll find an opening,
17:45because I think that the mailer is guard.
17:49He's just a little bit leaky on the inside, Paul.
18:01He's got all the shots, has Taylor.
18:03He's got the intelligence, obviously, in boxing terms.
18:07And, indeed, out of the ring.
18:13The key point against a wily operator like this,
18:15remain patient.
18:17Don't put yourself under pressure.
18:19Just try to relax the shoulders, even, as we say that.
18:23Boxing flow.
18:26Good stretch of attack body to head there,
18:28that double left hook.
18:31And it may be a body shot that undoes this guy, Paul.
18:36We've seen it time and again,
18:37where opponents take head shots
18:40and they seem to walk through anything
18:42into the body, and they can come undone.
18:46So maybe it is a body shot that may do that.
18:49There'll be plenty of opportunities to land those punches.
18:53Just a little bit too far out there, Taylor.
18:55The mailer switch back to the orthodox in this round.
18:59One of the many cunning plans.
19:02Oh, he took a good right hand there, did Taylor.
19:06As La Mela saw the opening.
19:09Watch your right.
19:14Clever boxing from La Mela there, Paul.
19:16He landed a couple of good shots.
19:18And there was Taylor saying,
19:19well, come on, let's exchange.
19:21And off he just walked off.
19:23Went for a walk around the arena, didn't he?
19:29He's always quite entitled to be pleased with himself.
19:32Yes, there you go.
19:35You're a different breed, you guys, you really are.
19:37Well, he's a tough cookie, isn't he?
19:39And that wasn't a bad round for him.
19:45Well, what a fighting prospect tonight
19:47for the famous British and Commonwealth
19:49bantamweight titles.
19:50And here comes Andrew Kane, deep in his own thoughts.
19:54This is the big night that Kane has worked toward.
19:58He can be such an exciting fighter.
20:00One real bad night in every sense,
20:03which has put him behind the clock a little bit.
20:06A year out of the game, but back,
20:08and they hope to prove as good as new.
20:10Kane and his all successful,
20:11all conquering Everton red triangle team at the moment.
20:15But what a prospect against the defending champion,
20:18Ashley Lane.
20:19And to say that he is a champion who wears the title
20:23with pride and honor is an underestimation
20:26of what it means to Lane.
20:34So the second half of this 10 round offer,
20:36Ezra Taylor.
20:39He's making a good impression.
20:43At times he's really threatened to unravel LaMela.
20:47That has not happened.
20:49LaMela is cunning, savvy,
20:52and he's quite a sharp puncher in his own right.
20:55We knew that even before tonight.
20:57I say again, really good bit of matchmaking
20:59because there are lots of puzzles
21:01for Taylor to solve in this fight.
21:04Yeah, I think in the last round, LaMela,
21:06we've got to give him credit.
21:07He started to control the pace, didn't he?
21:09And if anything, Taylor just slowed down a little bit
21:12and he's come out a little bit quicker
21:14in this round as Taylor.
21:16So obviously he's had a bit of a roast in that corner.
21:20But that's good.
21:21That's a lovely combination there from him.
21:24You know what?
21:25That was lovely work there from Taylor.
21:27The way he avoided shots on those ropes there.
21:31That was pretty impressive.
21:33Making LaMela swing and miss.
21:38WBC are blazing on his trunks.
21:40I think he's not overconfident at the end of the night.
21:45But he wants the international title.
21:48Just to get him on the map internationally.
21:54To put his name into the thoughts
21:57of some of the rivals here in Britain,
22:00led by Josh Boatse at the moment.
22:08LaMela just took a look in the eye
22:10and said, you know what?
22:11I'm going to go for it.
22:12I'm going to go for it.
22:13I'm going to go for it.
22:14I'm going to go for it.
22:16LaMela just took a look in a little bit slower, Paul,
22:19in this round.
22:20And maybe a little bit laboured with his work.
22:24And there's where Taylor sensed that
22:26and stepped on the gas a little bit.
22:28Just as I say that, he comes swinging out.
22:30But again, look, goes for a little walk.
22:33There's a pattern in his work, isn't there?
22:35He tends to land, then he goes walkies
22:37just to slow it down a little bit
22:39and recover and regroup, if anything.
22:41And some, Richie, he knows his way around.
22:43Yeah, absolutely.
22:47So it's important that Taylor remains watchful,
22:49doesn't get drawn onto something,
22:51doesn't switch off.
22:53Well, the quality in LaMela's work isn't that good.
22:56If you want to look at the quality of his punches,
22:58they're swinging.
23:00And they're not as sharp and crisp and accurate
23:04like Taylor's.
23:06Nevertheless, I mean, he's a tough cookie.
23:08But the better work is certainly coming from Taylor.
23:10And maybe it's time that he starts going through the gears
23:12a little bit more now
23:14and upping the pace against LaMela.
23:16I was going to say that, Richie,
23:18but actually the tempo has dropped a little bit
23:20from Taylor's point of view, hasn't it?
23:22And that rather suits LaMela.
23:24Yeah, exactly.
23:33And here comes Brad Pauls,
23:36And here comes Brad Pauls,
23:38who played a full part in what many consider
23:41to be one of the best title fights
23:44we've seen in Britain this year.
23:47So close to dethroning Nathan Heaney,
23:49first time round, and back to do it all again
23:51here in Birmingham,
23:53in our top of the bill.
24:05Angel Fernandes, back to us.
24:36Two.
24:38Taylor bossing it so far.
24:40LaMela's had his moments of success.
24:42Shouldn't be overlooked completely tonight.
24:45Two.
24:47Yeah, he's showing he's a tough kid, isn't he, LaMela?
24:49He just got caught there with two or three
24:52good shots, right hand especially,
24:55from Ezra Taylor.
24:57It was a cracking punch.
24:58So he's got to seize this opportunity now
25:00because I don't think LaMela is fully recovered just yet.
25:03He's very good at just standing off
25:05and just slowing things down,
25:07and Ezra Taylor, you know,
25:09he's playing to his tune a little bit,
25:11so he's got to up the work right here.
25:18Up on his toes he goes.
25:21To me, Richie, that's a whole different dimension
25:23with Ezra Taylor when he is up on his toes
25:25because he was starting to look a little bit flat-footed,
25:28the stance was getting bigger and bigger,
25:30and he was starting to plant his feet more and more
25:32and he was saying to himself,
25:33I've got to really put one on this guy.
25:35It doesn't work like that, does it?
25:36No, it certainly doesn't,
25:37and what he was also doing, Paul,
25:39he was just slowing down to LaMela's pace,
25:42and he's got to realise that he's got to box at his pace.
25:46I mean, look at LaMela now,
25:47I mean, really coming on to Taylor,
25:50but Taylor's got to box his fight.
25:53He's got to use that range and that jab a little bit more.
25:57And give credit here to LaMela.
26:00He's getting two with the odd shot here on the inside.
26:04And he goes for his wall.
26:05Clever kid, isn't he?
26:07He really is.
26:08It's life in the comfort zone, isn't it, Richie?
26:14But there's an art in doing it that way.
26:24He's so good at making angles, isn't he, LaMela?
26:29Again, whipping shots in.
26:30There's not a lot really landing,
26:32and the quality of the punch isn't that good from LaMela.
26:35They're wild swings occasionally.
26:38Taylor's punch is much more direct,
26:40it's more snap,
26:41better technique in the quality of the punch from Taylor,
26:44most definitely.
26:50On the book, there's only an inch between them
26:52in terms of height.
26:53To my eye, I must say, the differential is larger.
26:59That explains the way LaMela
27:00just seems able to make the angles underneath
27:03a bit more comfortably than Taylor can.
27:07But each to their own.
27:14Good jerk again from Taylor.
27:16There you go.
27:19Just wanted to come undone a little bit there, LaMela.
27:30Thank you.
27:36He's nearly there, OK?
27:40Right, we start facing up now, OK?
27:42OK?
27:43Listen, once you're close to him,
27:45be sharp with your defence.
27:47He's just looking for the right hand over.
27:49He's looking for one shot, right?
27:50So don't give it to him, yeah?
27:52Stay tidy with your defence.
27:53If you initiate, make sure that you give a defence.
27:56But this guy is nearly to go, OK?
27:58Poking on the body, poking on the body.
28:00As soon as he throws a combination, attack him there.
28:05And if he gives you the body language
28:07of, like, going back like that,
28:09go on top of him, because he's not ready to punch.
28:11Yeah.
28:12Yeah?
28:13Behind that jab.
28:14Variation of the jab.
28:16Different angles of the jab.
28:18Yeah?
28:19Yeah.
28:20The quality.
28:21Keep it all, mate.
28:22Second jab.
28:23Let's go.
28:24Let's go.
28:26Now!
28:27BELL RINGS
28:28Punched out some jab air, suggesting volume.
28:31Little or nothing in it,
28:32but is the quality overall better from Taylor Ritchie?
28:34Yeah, most definitely.
28:36More direct and...
28:39a lot more judge-friendly, if you like.
28:41You can see the quality of the shots
28:43and the snap in the punch.
28:46Lamele, yes, he's stubborn.
28:48And he's got through with the odd shot here and there.
28:51A lot of them are wild swings.
28:55Nevertheless, you know,
28:57what he lacks in quality, Paul,
28:59he certainly makes up in how tough he is.
29:02Tough kid.
29:08Every so often, there's a sharp riposte here from Lamele.
29:13Little reminders.
29:15If Ezra Taylor were to get carried away,
29:17even in this fight tonight,
29:19there could be consequences,
29:20but let nobody get carried away
29:22in terms of where he is in his career at the moment.
29:31Better not to take the liberties.
29:33It's like when I first started interviewing you
29:35when you were the world champion,
29:37and if I asked a cheeky question,
29:39you didn't answer it, you just gave me the look.
29:41Do you remember those days?
29:43No.
29:44A long time ago, Paul.
29:47Now, now.
29:49Good work again there from Taylor,
29:51making him miss, but he's got to make him pay.
29:53That wasn't a bad right hand to the body from him.
30:02As we have seen on the punch stats,
30:05volume aplenty from Lamele,
30:08and perhaps we should just remind everybody
30:10that there are three scoring judges
30:12Kieran McCann, Jürgen Langos,
30:15and Lesto Saldívar.
30:17In terms of polish, I don't think anybody in the world
30:19would suggest that Taylor is not
30:23the classier operator,
30:25but Lamele is still working hard.
30:29He has ambition, even now.
30:31What a great exchange that was from Lamele.
30:34You know, he was every bit in there
30:37with his own work, wasn't he, that was scoring.
30:42What a great exchange.
30:44Trevor again hits and walks away.
30:50I mentioned the gym and the high-quality guys
30:52that he is working with, Taylor,
30:54but I can't believe that he's fighting guys like Lamele
30:56ten rounds in sparring during the week.
30:58Can you?
30:59No, but I'll tell you what, Paul,
31:01you said about it earlier,
31:03this is a great bit of matchmaking, isn't it?
31:05Ezra Taylor, 8-0 going into this,
31:08learning his trade,
31:10this is certainly a learning contest indeed
31:12against a tough, tough man.
31:17Probably the time to remind everybody as well,
31:19as we get a little bit of high-stepping stuff from Taylor,
31:22that Lamele can keep going right to the finish,
31:25and he won spectacularly last time out in the 12th round.
31:35It's not all about the men tonight,
31:37a real star in women's boxing,
31:39Danny Jamieson is waiting to speak to Chantel Cameron.
31:43Chantel, eight months out of the ring,
31:45how excited are you to make your Queensbury
31:47and TNT Sports debut tonight?
31:49Yeah, I'm literally so excited,
31:50I can't wait to get the ball rolling
31:52and the journey begins again, so I can't wait.
31:54And what sort of challenges does
31:56Ella McCallum pose for you tonight?
31:58It's going to be a tough fight,
32:00but I'm at the level now where every fight's tough
32:02and that's what I want to be in the tough fights.
32:04You said you wanted to scare everybody in the division tonight,
32:06what do you have to do to make that happen?
32:08Put on a big performance and show everyone
32:10that I'm coming back for them belts.
32:13Can't wait to see it.
32:18Cool, calm and collected, but what an addition
32:21to the Queensbury Promotions team
32:24she could prove to be.
32:32The best we can say for Carlos Alberto Lamele
32:34is that he has made himself
32:36very much at home here in Birmingham.
32:41Comfortable and still retaining
32:43some confidence that he could do something special
32:46here late against Taylor.
32:50Yeah, he's proving a real tough cookie, isn't he, Lamele?
32:54His first contest, remember, in the UK.
32:57He's brought confidence into it,
32:59obviously in his last contest
33:01he boxed over in Austria, didn't he,
33:03and had that 12th round knockout.
33:07He's come with confidence in this one.
33:09Been caught time and again,
33:11but really showed a granite-like chin.
33:14And he's stubborn, awkward,
33:16and probably what Ezra Taylor has needed here.
33:19We've said that Ezra Taylor would be perfect
33:21for him to get a stoppage.
33:23He's proving harder and harder as each round goes on.
33:26This man seems to be there for the ten rounds.
33:30I was just about to say
33:32Lamele getting very bubbly and confident in the corner.
33:34A bit too bubbly for Victor Loughlin's liking there.
33:37And he went over and he wagged the finger.
33:39Nice left hook from Taylor.
33:41Lamele felt it.
33:43Right hand wasn't bad either.
33:45Again, Lamele makes a little bit of space when under pressure.
33:50Lovely combination from Taylor.
33:53This is going to test Lamele now, Paul.
33:56If Taylor actually got caught with a left hook.
33:59Left hook from Lamele also.
34:01And it's just fired him up a little bit.
34:03He's starting to plant his feet and he's going for it here
34:05with some big shots.
34:07Taylor, this may be another test for Lamele.
34:09Can he get through it?
34:11He's just got through it up to now,
34:13but nevertheless, that wasn't bad from Taylor there.
34:15Pretty aggressive coming forward.
34:24The job for Taylor from here surely is to make sure
34:26he works through to the finish line
34:28at the end of the tenth round and works hard.
34:32Let's go! Get in!
34:34Let's get in!
34:53That comes on personal now, doesn't it?
34:55Yes. Tough, tough man.
34:57Lamele took a couple of good body shots there.
35:01Still coming back, swinging away.
35:05Let's also just remind everybody,
35:07this is becoming uncharted territory for Taylor.
35:09He's never had to go ten rounds.
35:12Still another element to the learning experience.
35:17And he's been made to work all the way.
35:19Yes, absolutely.
35:21He hasn't had it all his own way, has he?
35:23Each round there's been a section of the round
35:25where Lamele's worked hard and switched the attack
35:27from body to head and made it really awkward.
35:29So, yes, real competitive contesters.
35:37Carlos, that's the last jump.
35:39There's no more crap, okay?
35:41There's no more crap.
35:43You have to give it your all.
35:45Okay? It's over now.
35:47Yes, but you have to let him
35:49get it in the first minute.
35:51Yes, yes. Listen to him.
35:53Get it in the first minute.
35:55We're champions, okay?
35:58Go straight on him, bro,
36:00because he's not ready to punch.
36:02He's not ready to punch.
36:04And then land the combination
36:06and grab him on the body.
36:08And as soon as you're on the body, switch it upstairs.
36:10180 seconds, Ifrah.
36:12You look fresh, man.
36:14Three minutes.
36:16WBC champion. Three minutes, champ.
36:18Use me that jab every morning.
36:20Use the fence, okay?
36:23Second time.
36:25The words were interesting,
36:27but the actual face there of Taylor
36:29told me a story.
36:31This is a step up tonight.
36:33This is ten rounds. Some of them have been quite hard.
36:35He's a really tricky customer,
36:37is LaMela Richie.
36:39And Taylor's not had it all his own way,
36:41has he? No, not at all.
36:43I think it's been a real good learning contest for him.
36:45It started off like
36:47before that Ezra Taylor might get the stoppage,
36:49but LaMela has proved
36:51really stubborn and probably tougher
36:53than what we all thought.
36:55So fair play to him.
36:57And you hinted
36:59on it, Paul, that he's not been ten rounds
37:01before, remember, Taylor? He's done a couple of eight
37:03rounds, but he's never been ten.
37:05So that's another step forward for him
37:07here tonight.
37:21He's looking for the sign.
37:27So from what we know of LaMela,
37:29judge particular on his last outing,
37:31these are the danger moments in this
37:33fight right now for
37:35Ezra Taylor.
37:39Something special late on.
37:41I think you're
37:43right, Paul. He's going for himself, isn't he?
37:45So he's proven
37:47real tough cooking he's
37:49been through on the inside there as well.
37:53So it's toe-to-toe now in this last
37:55round. It's been a good contest.
38:11Yeah, that was quality
38:13there from Taylor.
38:15Richie's got such quick hands,
38:17doesn't he, when he lets them go?
38:19It's almost as though the rest of the body needs a bit of time
38:21to catch up. Yeah, that's right. Well,
38:23the impressive bit there was just maintaining that
38:25gap and then punching
38:27into it and not falling in
38:29or letting the opponent smother you and come forward.
38:31He just held his ground
38:33and he did well there.
38:37Nobody's ever going to say LaMela is
38:39fleet of foot, but he knows
38:41exactly what he's doing and he's trying to draw
38:43Taylor onto something here to create
38:45another big shock.
38:49Taylor
38:51needs to remain watchful. We've seen the odd
38:53little bit of showboating.
39:01I just heard the corner
39:03of Reggie Tennyson saying, keep your shape
39:05and that is really good advice
39:07indeed.
39:09Some flashy
39:11combination work in the last
39:1330 seconds from Taylor.
39:17Overall performance has certainly borne out
39:19again that the talent is all
39:21in there for Ezra Taylor.
39:27Furious action
39:29right to the finish. For me, LaMela
39:31was never going to land a big shot.
39:33Taylor's now doing his own version of the
39:35LaMela stroll right across the ring.
39:37I had my man all night long, he says.
39:39Well, LaMela stuck around very
39:41indeed. Taylor showed all
39:43the ability we know is in there.
39:47I don't want to hear afterwards from him that he's disappointed
39:49with his own performance. I don't think for a
39:51moment he should be. I'm not disappointed
39:53with his performance. Most definitely
39:55not. This is only
39:57his ninth contest. Exactly. So he's
39:59in against a tough kid who's given him a good
40:01night's work there. He'll really learn from that.
40:03That was his first 10 rounder and he was
40:05pushed. He was pushed in most of the rounds.
40:07He wasn't really in any sort of trouble,
40:09but nevertheless, LaMela
40:11certainly had his little spells here and there.
40:13It was tough as old boots.
40:15And Ezra Taylor there overall, he's won
40:17almost every round. So that for me
40:19has not been a bad night's work for him.
40:21So the
40:23punch stats from Jabber, the
40:25totalised version there of Richie.
40:27You can see how busy LaMela's been through the whole show
40:29there. Yes, I think the difference
40:31has been in the quality of the work. Like I said
40:33before, the quality of the punching was definitely
40:35with Ezra Taylor. The sharpness,
40:37the snap in the punch and actually delivering
40:39the technique for me is better
40:41in the punches of Ezra Taylor. But
40:43Carlos Alberto LaMela has
40:45really pushed him and given him a good
40:47night's work and a hard night overall.
40:49Three scoring
40:51judges to interpret what we've seen with
40:53our own eyes.
40:55With admirable
40:57efficiency, they've already been signed off by
40:59Charlie Giles and
41:01they've been handed over to Thomas Treiber.
41:07Ladies and gentlemen, after
41:0910 rounds of boxing,
41:11we go to the judges'
41:13scorecards. Judge
41:15Ernesto Saldivar scores
41:17it 97 to 93
41:19and both judges
41:21Kieran McCann and
41:23Jurgen Langos are
41:25in agreement. They both score it 99
41:27to 91
41:29all in favour of
41:31your winner by unanimous
41:33decision. And now
41:35the WBC
41:37International Light Heavyweight
41:39Champion
41:41Ezra
41:43The Cannon
41:45Taylor!
41:47Most pleasing of
41:49all in that
41:51it's almost a shout out on two of the cards
41:53for Kieran McCann and
41:55Jurgen Langos.
