England star Chris Jordan attends Shepherd’s Bush Memorial Day to reach out to diverse communities to play cricket
Barbados born England cricket star Chris Jordan was in attendance at Shepherd’s Bush cricket clubs’ Memorial Day Caribbean match to celebrate the unique relationship between cricket and food, so what does the day involve and aim to encourage throughout the cricket community?

00:00Chris, you're obviously joining me from the pitch of the Memorial Day at Shepherds Bush Cricket Club.
00:09Just tell me a bit about the day they have and the different type of cuisine it has sort of brought into cricket.
00:16Yeah, no, it's been a great day so far.
00:20Obviously, from the time I walked through the gates, I could really feel a sense of inclusion.
00:28To be able to experience a different kind of cuisine at a cricket game.
00:35Obviously, my background is well documented, so I was really smiling at the Caribbean food.
00:43I think having spent a bit of time here today, it really defines the culture that Shepherds Bush Cricket Club is going for and pushing.
00:52That combination with the taste of cricket, I think it made a good mix today.
00:58Obviously, cricket has a great history with food and tea time.
01:03I mean, it must be a nice thing for you to see a bit of a twist with the Caribbean touch.
01:08What's that been like for you?
01:10Oh, it's been brilliant.
01:13Probably like a kid on Christmas Day.
01:16Because leaving home today, I actually didn't know what to definitely expect.
01:21Seeing so many of the food that I was kind of accustomed to growing up and what's not.
01:27It's about having a second plate.
01:30That will tell you how nice the food has been here today.
01:33There's an aim to sort of increase the black communities to get involved into cricket more.
01:40How important is it that nations like maybe the West Indies come and play cricket here and try and encourage that?
01:47Yeah, it's huge, man.
01:50I think when World Cricket on the whole has the flavor, not just on but off the field of kind of that West Indian culture,
01:58especially having that inclusion, especially again, walking through the doors here today,
02:04hearing obviously a lot of that Caribbean music going.
02:08And I just seen the entire environment so vibrant, you know.
02:12I think it definitely has a huge part to play in a huge place in cricket.
02:18And you had that remarkable hat trick in the World Cup, obviously in Barbados as well.
02:23What was that like for you doing it in your hometown for England?
02:28Yeah, it really was a special day.
02:30I can't lie. Right up there, one of my best days in cricket.
02:34I think with all the ingredients, including no pun intended, by the way.
02:39But with all the ingredients it had, being a place that I was born, a place that I grew up,
02:45a stadium that I played so much cricket at, in front of my family, my friends and loved ones.
02:52Yeah, to do that and to walk off, seeing them in the stands so happy, so proud.
02:58It was a really special moment.
