00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. Now, I'm sure as you've been able to figure out from my voice over the last few videos
00:04I've been a little bit ill and I'm sure many of you will be going through something similar
00:07So the purpose of this video is to talk through some common cures and salves for sore throats and colds
00:12To save you from suffering if the frosty weather gets too much for you
00:15Let's start with the NHS advice for sore throats
00:17Drinking plenty of water is first and most obvious dehydration can make a sore throat much worse. On that note cold soft foods can be
00:24Best something like ice lollies can really help as well as avoiding smoking or smoky places
00:29The Mayo Clinic recommends a similar course of action for colds with extra emphasis on hot and warm liquids something like tea
00:34Honey is a great thing to add to your tea by the way helping to ease coughs or pain in the throat
00:38While a cool mist vaporizer or humidifier can also help by adding moisture to the air in your home. Key is
00:43Resting your body needs time and space to heal properly
00:45So being able to sleep for at least eight hours a night and taking some time for yourself is absolutely essential for healing
00:50Finally, if you've got a blocked nose
00:52The best advice I've got for you is to make a cup of tea and inhale through your nose just over it
