Paris Olympics 2024: Day 4 wrap up

Here's what you missed in day four of the Paris Olympics, with heartbreak and heart-warming moments for Australia.

00:00Good morning sports fans. Hope you got a little bit of sleep overnight, but not too much because

00:07there was plenty happening in Paris. It was a day of highs and lows for Australia. We

00:12were still trying to dry our tears after a heartbreaking day for our women's sevens rugby

00:16team when swimmer Kaylee McEwen reminded us what it's all about. She talked about her

00:22superpower after her gold medal swim in the women's 100 metres backstroke, thinking of

00:27her late father Sholto who died in 2020 after a prolonged battle with cancer. She said he

00:32was the inspiration for these games and we're all wondering if this could be just the start

00:37she needed to chase those four gold medals. And still at the pool, our unassuming four

00:42by 200 men's freestyle team surprised everyone, including themselves, by winning bronze. All

00:47the lads are under 24 so they're already thinking about Los Angeles in 2028 and we're here for

00:53that ride. But let's talk about the rugby. The day didn't go as planned. First we lost

00:58the semi-final against Canada and then the USA scored after the siren to beat us by just

01:03two points. Better news for our men's water polo team though, who stunned two-time defending

01:07Olympic champion Serbia with an 8-3 upset. The Kookaburras went down 6-2 to Belgium in

01:14the hockey and the Boomers lost to Canada 93-83. Our women's three by three basketball

01:19team also lost to Canada in their very first ever match at the Olympics. It was quite interesting

01:25to watch the three. Jess Fox and Logan Martin are among Aussies who've qualified for later

01:29today, so stay tuned, there's plenty more to still come from Paris.
