What makes Manchester the best place for beer?

It’s international beer day on Friday and Manchester’s breweries are well up for it!

With so many independent brewers flourishing in the city, it is clear that the beer scene is strong. This is hammered home by breweries from further afield deciding to make this place their home from home.

00:00Here in Manchester we've got a brilliant range of breweries and bars and Friday the 2nd of August, it's International Beer Day.
00:06Manchester has a brilliantly vibrant beer scene. One of the most impressive parts of the scene however is the temptation for breweries from further afield to set up a store here.
00:13It's the history of brewing here, of Boddington's being big and then all the amazing breweries here like Track, Cloudwater, Shawsharp.
00:22It's got such a good heritage and good place for craft beer.
00:26It's new things, it's excitement with the amount of breweries going up, it's what's new, what can I try, what can you communicate, what can you share.
00:33The importance of Manchester's breweries can't be overstated enough, however it's maybe places like Northern Monk, Fierce Beer and Pelican that best exemplify Manchester's attitude towards beer.
00:44Willingly stocking local breweries beers to try and build up their counterparts, not competitors.
00:49That point about competition is really important. It would be easy for these independents to resort to scrapping it out over customers
00:55but as Liam Jones says, collaboration is the key.
00:58The people of Manchester are extremely loyal to their breweries, so you can't do an us versus them kind of thing.
01:06But then again craft beer has never been an us versus them, it's very collaborative.
01:09We stock beers by Track, by Cloudwater, the brewery has worked with breweries like Shawsharp for example and Blackjack from Manchester.
01:16So really we've gone through a wide range of Manchester based breweries.
01:21Pelican Bar is just around the corner from Northern Monk and General Manager Denny Rogers says they're another example of a group that wants to build up local independents.
01:28Probably the best beer scene of anywhere in the UK, some of the best breweries, some brilliant brew taps.
01:33We're also very lucky in the fact that we've got the likes of us, Bell from Cumbria, Northern Monk from Leeds, Fierce from Aberdeen wanting to set up down here.
01:42So with International Beer Day now here, what should be the takeaway?
01:46Get to the pub, get to the bars, drink local, support independent and support your local bars and your local bar scene.
01:54Thanks for watching Manchester World, I've been Theo Houston-Betts and I'll see you again soon.
01:58Happy International Beer Day.
