00:00From the far right, Israeli protesters have broken into two military compounds after investigators
00:06arrived to question soldiers about the suspected abuse of a Palestinian prisoner.
00:11Officials are investigating nine soldiers for allegedly abusing a Palestinian prisoner
00:16captured from an elite unit of Hamas.
00:19The Israeli military chief calling the protests anarchy, saying the probe is necessary to
00:24uphold the military's honour.
00:25Jordana Miller in Jerusalem has more.
00:29There were scenes of chaos for hours outside first, this day, Teman facility.
00:36That's a detention facility.
00:38That's the facility where military police that is under the Israeli army initially went
00:44in to arrest nine suspects who they believe, they call it substantial abuse.
00:53That was the term that the military prosecutor put out in the statement.
00:57They didn't give many more details, but they detained nine for questioning and the inquiry.
01:04The fact that they were arrested angered so many right-wing protesters.
01:10Even lawmakers showed up at this detention facility, one managing to break in.
01:18Then once these nine suspects were moved to a different facility in a different part of
01:23the country, protests then moved to this facility.
01:27There we saw larger scuffles.
01:30We saw also lawmakers on the scene condemning the army for arresting soldiers.
01:39It goes to show you that this country is divided in the sense that now there's some here who
01:45think an Israeli soldier is so holy, so to speak, he can do no wrong.
01:53And even if he faces allegations of abuse by the Israeli army's own military prosecutor,
02:00there are still hundreds here who feel he should be protected.
02:05And I think that speaks to a larger problem here over law and order.
02:12But the military was quickly defended by the Israeli president, by the defense minister.
02:19Even the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said he condemned these protests.
02:25There've been very credible reports of a lot of abuse at this particular detention center.
02:32And it appears the Israeli army wants to get to the bottom of it and prosecute those who
02:39have abused detainees.
