00:00The road ahead is long, be it alone or in small groups.
00:04Nearly 4,000 firefighters are working day and night.
00:07On foot, in trucks and from the air.
00:10They're fighting to try and control the so-called Park Fire.
00:14But only a small fraction of it is under control.
00:17Located in Northern California outside Chico
00:20the blaze has already scorched an area the size of greater Los Angeles.
00:24Some 1,400 square kilometres have been turned to ash.
00:29Authorities arrested a man on Thursday who they believe started the fire
00:33by pushing a blazing car into a ravine.
00:36The seventh largest in California's history and the largest this year
00:40the Park Fire's explosive growth has surprised many
00:44including this resident who lost her home.

00:50People that we know that went by and looked at the property said it's burned down.
00:55And the Park Fire is not the only one.

01:02were raging across the western United States and Canada.
01:06In Alberta, wildfire burned a third of the structures in the scenic town of Jasper
01:11and it forced some 25,000 to evacuate before the blaze was brought under control.
01:17Further south in Oregon, a lightning strike and dry conditions
01:20created the Durkee blaze earlier this month.
01:22It melded with another wildfire and they've burned 1,700 square kilometres so far.
01:28They're only partially under control.
