Panayam kay Commo. Jay Tarriela - Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea ng PCG
Transcript
00:00Now for the update on the West Philippine Sea, we will be joined by Commander Jay Tariella, the spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea of PCG. Good morning, sir.
00:11Good morning to you, sir, and to your followers.
00:15Yes, sir. How is the latest resupply mission in Union Shoal?
00:21Well, it was successful, just like the statements issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs last Saturday.
00:30And then, of course, yesterday, the National Task Force of the West Philippine Sea also gave a statement.
00:34We were able to successfully deliver supplies to the Philippine Sea.
00:41This is a good development regarding the provisional understanding we made with the Chinese government,
00:51where the DFA and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the People's Republic of China,
00:59talked about having a reliable delivery of our supplies to Union Shoal.
01:05And at the same time, let me emphasize the fact that the national government did not allow for this resupply.
01:15And the ships that were used to deliver supplies to BRP Sierra Madre did not participate in the inspection of the Chinese coast guard.
01:27And this was already suspected by the spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
01:33The provisional understanding between the two countries was not prejudicial to the interests of the two countries.
01:43Okay. Sir, what is the indication of this successful resupply mission?
01:49Well, the indication of this, as I said, is that we already have a good relationship with China regarding the resupply operation.
02:02However, as I said, our agreement was not prejudicial to the interests of our country.
02:10We will not give up because we still assert our position regarding our Exclusive Economic Zone.
02:19And BRP Sierra Madre is under our Exclusive Economic Zone.
02:27Okay. Recently, the Chinese Embassy stated that although the Philippines' stand on China is different when it comes to the issue of the West Philippine Sea,
02:37the deep friendship between the Philippines and China will continue. What is your reaction to this?
02:46Well, again, our agreement with the People's Republic of China is not limited to the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
02:56We have many agreements with China, whether economic, whether social, cultural.
03:02All of these, we are still continuing to consult with them.
03:08And secondly, as I said, the peaceful resupply operation that took place last Saturday
03:17showed the good and peaceful intentions of the two countries regarding the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
03:27Well, hopefully, sir, this will continue in the future.
03:32Thank you very much, sir, for the information.
03:34We still have Commander Jay Tariella, the spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea of PCG.
