00:00:00Today's episode of the mark Titus show Tate and Bosco are here to do a draft of we're gonna build our perfect college
00:00:06This is prime offseason content. This is a this is a Tate idea, but he brought it to the mark Titus show
00:00:10So this is my idea. I came up with this idea. That's how this works
00:00:13I own all of your ideas that you bring to the show now Tate. We're gonna build a
00:00:18college
00:00:20By drafting coach or we're picking a coach. We're picking Jersey slash uniforms. We're picking arenas. We're picking NBA legends
00:00:27We're picking guys that didn't play in the NBA
00:00:29But uh, you know, we're known for for their stint at the college that they played at we're picking an NIL booster
00:00:36Tradition a location because that's important if you're building a perfect college
00:00:41You can't be having your school in the middle of nowhere
00:00:44Although weirdly enough like a lot of the best college basketball programs are in weird locations or like non-desirable
00:00:51Well, let's just put it this way non vacation
00:00:53Locations must be something about that like you go you go to school there
00:00:57there's nothing else to do but get in the gym a
00:01:00Celebrity fan and then we're gonna pick a scandal because those are fun
00:01:02And what's the what's the best scandal to have your school be involved in?
00:01:05So we're gonna do that draft a little bit also gonna talk a little team USA the last time we sat down and talked
00:01:11USA I forget who we had played but we had had a close game
00:01:16Stop me if you've heard this before this this USA team that is considered one of the most talented teams ever assembled
00:01:22Had a close exhibition game and we were semi worried about maybe
00:01:28Is there a world will they'll lose? No, there's not a world because they I think it was Serbia was the last time
00:01:33We pulled away from Serbia when the second unit came in and it's like yeah, we don't have anything to worry about
00:01:37It was a little touch-and-go there through through a quarter and a half, but we'll be fine. We'll be fine
00:01:42Maybe it was halftime. Was it close? I think the Serbian was close at halftime and then we pulled away
00:01:46Since then we've played South Sudan we played Germany both have been very close games
00:01:50LeBron has emerged as not just like the guy who is, you know has the legacy as the best player
00:01:57Maybe of all time and certainly the best player on this team
00:01:59He's literally right now in this moment right this second going into the Olympics the best player on the team and the guy that everyone
00:02:05Is looking to to take this last shot and to take over late in games. How much does this matter?
00:02:09That is the big dilemma or debate or discussion points around
00:02:13Is it all a tune-up there are some people that are like none of this matters. This is just this is just exercise
00:02:19These guys are out there for cardio. I'm sure when when the ball gets tipped on I think it's Sunday

00:03:50Then we're gonna bring Bosco on and do a draft of our perfect college basketball programs. Let's get into it
00:03:55Alright, we got Bosco in the waiting room. So we're gonna we're gonna make this quick and we'll get to the draft
00:04:00But we got to talk team USA just briefly Tate. Are we worried? Are we worried about team USA?
00:04:06Well, yeah, yes and no the answer is no
00:04:09We are still gonna win the gold and I think we're gonna handily win the gold
00:04:12But I am not allowing people to come in and say that this is not an embarrassment
00:04:15And that beating a team by one that we're 43 point favorites on like we weren't trying
00:04:20I don't give a shit if you're trying or not. You're 43 point favor. Yeah, and we were trying that's why we're trying
00:04:25I got the ball at the end. That's what that's what's confusing to me is is I
00:04:30Said at the top that like all these games are supposed to be wake all these close calls are supposed to be Waco calls and
00:04:35Then we're gonna lock the fuck in but I lock in the fuck in isn't the problem
00:04:39That's not that and I think that's the issue with team USA basketball and has been through the years when things go wrong
00:04:44It's it's because there's a belief. We obviously have the most talent. There's no doubt about that
00:04:49We have the best roster you stack the rosters up against each other and you say this roster is overwhelmingly better than all the others
00:04:54That's not how basketball is played and there's a belief
00:04:58amongst the the culture of USA basketball that when the time comes the
00:05:02Proverbial time to try the the like, all right, let's lock the lock the fuck in time when that comes. We're gonna push the button
00:05:10We're gonna lock in and we're going to win now the problem that the counter to the point
00:05:14I'm making is that we did beat South Sudan
00:05:16So like some would say it works it works when you lock in I would say that's not how basketball works that you can't just
00:05:24Simply do that. And I think there's like a cultural issue with how
00:05:28How team USA approaches the game which is to say there's not a respect for the opponent there's not a respect for the game

00:05:36Understanding that FIBA is different than the NBA and that we have to like take this seriously
00:05:40I don't expect us to lose a game in the Olympics still but I
00:05:45the dream of us blowing everybody out and this being like a
00:05:48Statement to the rest of the world that we own you and we will always own you. I that's in serious jeopardy
00:05:52We've played five exhibition games Canada jumped out on us huge
00:05:57Australia we beat by six. Yeah, Serbia was a dogfight for whatever half

00:10:00Small hard-fought margin right now four years from now. This world is gonna be in it. It's gonna be interest

00:10:09Just look at the French or come look at the top picks in the drafts
00:10:12Look at your NBA MVPs the last few years look at the there's a lot of indicators that we should be a little bit concerned

00:11:15I'm the captain of this team and I'm gonna fucking like hammer home the importance of this Olympics to these guys
00:11:21I a couple things one. I do think where you're saying LeBron might be the the scapegoat that we blame

00:14:32We're drafting a non NBA player, which we have defined as if you played a second NBA, right?
00:14:37So these are guys that played could not have they did not play but they're like cult heroes at their schools or had a moment
00:14:44in an NCAA tournament say
00:14:46we're drafting an NIL booster, which is very important maybe the most important thing in building a program these days a
00:14:52Tradition a location a celebrity fan and a scandal. So we have 10 categories
00:14:57some ground rules
00:14:58We are you can only take one one thing from a school as a group
00:15:04So for example, if Rico which I imagine he's going to be very high on his big board was to take NATO's. I
00:15:11That all of Alabama is off the board. I could not take the Alabama Police Department to cover up
00:15:17Any crimes that that are being committed?
00:15:20So that's just one example all of Alabama comes up a lot of strategy a lot of strategy
