00:00The clamour for Phil Foden over the last few days because of the negativity and that performance against the USA and Gareth
00:07Didn't bring him on and then the last as I said the last few days everything including myself
00:11Was on why didn't he why didn't he involve him? Why didn't he bring him on?
00:15So he's now he's now got to go out and justify that the managers put him and he's given me his chance
00:19It's now up to him in such a huge game. What he brings as well Phil Foden
00:23He's got a little bit of guile. I mean they're in the tunnel there
00:26But the guile in this game went well, it's maybe quite deep in this game
00:29You're gonna need someone with the imagination to unlock things and he's a player can do that. How do you see it going in?
00:34Well, I think the first 15-20 minutes, you know, I think it's a vital that they keep the shape
00:40They keep on it doing and worst things happen to Wales if England score early
00:44That would worry me a bit just like around
00:46Yeah, you know, but I think the first bill first 20 minutes is get the crowd behind you and just so that we can get
00:52A chance. What do you want to see from England? Yeah a fast start aggressive on the front foot. Go on
00:57Make sure make make this whilst team feel uneasy
00:59Don't don't sit back and allow that the American team pushed us back and we can't allow well to do that today
01:06Well, I think my wife's perspective don't get sucked up into it and start, you know
01:10Stretching your team and getting trying to press too high and too early. Oh, yeah
01:14No, I think we're better when we sit in suck up the pressure a little bit and then and then try and go and expose
01:19England at the back with people like Dan James
01:21This is going to be a wonderful atmosphere when the anthems and I want England to use that energy
01:25I want them to go after wheels in the first 10 or 15 minutes and make a real statement
01:29Okay, it's time to join our commentary team if you're watching on BBC Wales, it's Simon Davis
01:35Nia Jones and Neil Taylor, but for us, it's Jermaine genius Danny Gavidon and Guy Mowbray Boyd a team got I any
01:43Thank
01:47You Gary and good evening everyone

05:55Let's take a look at tonight's line-up, starting with Wales.
05:58For Wales, there's a first World Cup starting goal for Danny Ward,
06:01with Wayne Hennessy suspended.
06:03It's a change to a back four.
06:05Regular full-back roles for Nico Williams and Ben Davies.
06:08As planned from the very start, Game 3 means a start for Joe Allen,
06:12fit after a hamstring injury.
06:14It's been over two months since he played for Swansea.
06:16And it's Dan James and Gareth Bale either side of Aaron Ramsey,
06:19with Keeper Moore leading the way.
06:21Moore, a former England C international,
06:25with a team made up of players from the National League and below.
06:29CHEERING
06:32Well, those two know each other well.
06:37With Wales needing to beat the odds, perhaps there's an omen for them
06:40in referee Slavko Vincic of Slovenia.
06:43He was also the man for Saudi Arabia's win against Argentina last Tuesday.
06:59The VAR team is headed by Germany's Marco Fritz.
07:05Putting the external noise to one side,
07:08there's only one person who picks the England team,
07:11and this is what Gareth Southgate has gone with.
07:13The first appearance in the tournament for Kyle Walker,
07:16out since the start of October after groin surgery.
07:19Kieran Trippier drops out.
07:20Jordan Henderson starts for England for the first time since March,
07:23with Mason Mount making way.
07:25And those clamouring for Phil Foden's inclusion have got their wish in,
07:29along with Marcus Rashford.
07:31In the attacking positions either side of Harry Kane,
07:34Makaio Saka and Raheem Sterling drop to the bench.
07:39Everybody, everybody,
07:43Light the fire, light the fire,
07:46Shout if you dare, shout if you dare,
07:50Higher, higher, higher, higher.
07:53One last hurrah may be at a major tournament for Gareth Bale.
07:57He will hope not.
07:59He will give everything he's got for that not to be the case.
08:04And for Phil Foden,
08:06New beginnings at this tournament.
08:07One substitute appearance,
08:10and he tries to push England on.
08:23Both sides will need to be better than in their last performances.
08:27For Wales, the 2-0 defeat to Iran that has left them really up against it.
08:32For England, the goalless draw against the United States.
08:36A game in which they only managed eight attempts on goal,
08:39and only forced one save from goalkeeper Matt Turner.
08:45Both sets of players take the knee,
08:47and now Wales will get the game started.
08:49A foreign land for a home international.
08:51Dragons against Lions.
08:53And I've got one of each alongside me.
08:55Danny Gabidon and Jermaine Genas.
08:58Danny, the onus is on your voice for this one.
09:00It certainly is, Guy.
09:02Now is the time for this Wales team.
09:04No more room for slip-ups or substandard performances.
09:08They really have to find their levels tonight up against an outstanding England side.
09:12And no pressure on this Wales team.
09:14No, the fans will be right behind them.
09:16It's about them going out and kind of just executing the performance,
09:19executing the game plan.
09:21We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
09:23But it'll be a really difficult game for these Welsh boys.
09:26But I know one thing, they're going to give it 110%.
09:30Jermaine, from an England perspective, what needs to be better?
09:33Well, they clearly need to improve on that performance against USA.
09:37And I think when you come up against teams like Wales,
09:39you know they're going to raise their performance for the game.
09:43It's got so much on it from a Wales perspective.
09:46And you've just got to be ready for that each set piece.
09:49Expect that they've got something creative up their sleeves to try and catch you out.
09:53But more in my mind, I'm just thinking if they increase their energy levels,
09:57then there's no doubt they'll have enough.
09:59This is where they can do it.
10:06There's Chris Mappen with a clear way back to Danny Ward.
10:12Ward came on for the dying stages of that Iran game.
10:15Couldn't do anything about the two goals.
10:18Dewayne Hennessy was dismissed.
10:20Still the only red card at this tournament.
10:24And this is game 35-36 with the USA and Iran playing at the same time.
10:30Brilliant play there from John Stones.
10:32Really composed on the ball.
10:34Nice start to the game.
10:36He's actually had a good tournament, John Stones, so far.
10:39And there's Bellingham playing it to Stones once more.
10:54Maguire.
11:08Stones.
11:12A familiar pattern for England as Stones and Maguire knock the ball between themselves.
11:17Yeah, you can see with Wales, quite happy for England to have the ball in these areas.
11:20They're almost going to set up in a 4-4-2 type formation at times.
11:24Aaron Ramsey just behind.
11:26Kiefer Moore going to try and frustrate England and keep their lines as close as they can together.
11:33So they don't allow those gaps for England's creative players to drop into and cause them problems.
11:40Here's Shaw.
11:42Farrah Southgate has kept Manchester United on the left and City on the right.
11:45Shaw and Rashford, Ferguson and Walker.
11:51Henderson.
11:59Walker hardly on the right in the early stages though.
12:01Yeah, it's interesting to see where he's almost playing his role that he plays for Man City.
12:06Early on in this game where Pep likes him to go inside and act as almost an extra midfield player to create the overload and allow that width for Foden.
12:17I'm sure he'll be there when needed.
12:21Stones.
12:25Rice.
12:26Under pressure by Ramsey.
12:32Harry Maguire.
12:35Worth just a quick refresher as to what's needed for both nations.
12:39England just need to win for first place in the group.
12:42A draw enough for first unless Iran win their game against the USA or the USA win by a huge margin.
12:48And for Wales, well they need to win.
12:50That is the be all and end all.
12:53And it's a win that's got to be coupled with a draw between the US and Iran.
12:56Or they win by four plus goals to go above England which is the unlikely part.
13:02They've only scored three in total in the last ten meetings of these nations.
13:07Just looking at Wales and they're quite happy.
13:09Tom was sitting at half way line press and I think the only stem will be when they win the ball back to try and counter attack quickly.
13:15You look at the USA and the joy they had against England.
13:18They were very good on the counter attack.
13:20Yes, the USA is slightly different to Wales in terms of the athleticism they have in their team.
13:25But Wales have always been at their best as a team where they're very solid defensively.
13:31Make it difficult for the opposition to break them down.
13:34And then they look to spring on the counter attack.
13:36But the pace is obviously Daniel James and Gareth Bale on his right hand side.
13:40But obviously the tension of the football is going to be really important for Wales when they win the ball back.
13:44They need to be really assured when they're passing to help the team kind of get up the pitch.
13:51They've kept back in their own half for long periods of the match so far.
13:55No real danger though.
13:56Opposed by neither attack just yet.
13:58There's Joe Allen winning it but he's fired it in with far too much force for Ramsey.
14:03Henderson.
14:05Beaten by Allen.
14:08And he bundled it over and the referee has given a free kick for Wales.
14:13You see the difference Joe Allen makes in that midfield area.
14:16Just winning the ball back and then heads up and he's looking to play forward into Alan Ramsey.
14:23Yes, a bit of lack of appreciation on the pass.
14:25But then winning the ball back again quickly and drawing the foul.
14:30Ward was made to hurry by Kane there.
14:35Shaw.
14:37Bellingham.
14:42Royce.
14:44Royce.
14:54Henderson.
15:05Plenty of time for Harry Maguire and Co at the back.
15:14Plenty of space to move into as well.
15:17Not a great touch from Rashford.
15:19Michael Williams was onto it and then Royce was far too quickly into Ramsey.
15:24It's going to be a Wales free kick.
15:25Good from Declan Royce though.
15:27I think that's exactly what that Wales midfield are going to have to deal with all game.
15:30England are going to come after them.
15:32They're so dynamic in there with Henderson, Bellingham and Royce.
15:37There's no doubt the objective is just get the ball back.
15:39Davis has gone out and that's England's to throw back in.
15:52And James not given much of a chance with that.
16:00Ramsey.
16:03Keefer Moore.
16:06Down with the first time.
16:08Popped forward but he's got it
16:10imperfectly
16:12in between James and Ramsey.
16:14Not quite getting the through ball correct Gareth Bale but
16:17that's the kind of patterns that
16:19we need to see from Wales when they win the ball back.
16:21Shaw in possession and then runners forward Daniel James there just looking to
16:26spring off the back of Kyle Walker which is going to be an
16:28interesting battle over on that far side.
16:34Henderson.
16:37Over the head of Bellingham.
16:42Stones.
16:47Had to get into a free zone and
16:49James was quickly there for Wales.
16:52Williams.
17:00Ampadu.
17:02Too high for James.
17:04Probably the right idea though.
17:07He was in a
17:09pocket of space over there Daniel James just a poor ball really from
17:13Ampadu but you're looking at
17:14England I think when the ball goes into the midfield area I think
17:17they will look to go and press the likes of Jordan Henderson Jude
17:20Bellingham but
17:21I do think Wales will be given time and space on the ball also
17:25so need to take advantage of that.
17:34McGuire.
17:37Walker.
17:47Walker.
17:52Really helped Bellingham with that pass.
17:54Walker in again but only temporarily.
17:56Rice in.
17:58Kane plays it through and Rashford is stopped by Ward.
18:01What a good adventurous goal that was.
18:04Really was a good save from
18:06Danny Ward.
18:07He was out
18:08really quick off his line because the play from
18:11Harry Kane
18:12and Rashford
18:14was exquisite really.
18:15It's the type of play that you expect.
18:17Harry Kane does this week in week out and a Tottenham shirt drops
18:20in deep and
18:21he just needs runners.
18:23Shaw into Rashford's feet
18:25and then quickly return to him.
18:33It's great to see that from Rashford's point of view.
18:37That inside run, that running just inside Nico Williams
18:40and Mepham.
18:42That will cause Wales a lot of problems.
18:44He's too quick.
18:49Shaw.
18:54Kane unable to stretch.
18:58Walker will get to that
18:59ahead of James.
19:01It's a good race though.
19:02Now Foden.
19:06Walker.
19:07Four in the middle.
19:08Waiting outside is Henderson.
19:14England quickening up their play now.
19:16What's really interesting to see is that
19:19with England
19:20it's almost like they're going to get their best opportunities
19:22in the counter-press so
19:23when they actually do lose the ball
19:25if they go after it straight away and win it back
19:27there's more gaps and spaces to open up.
19:29That's two occasions there where
19:31the counter-presses work really well for them.
19:37Declan Rice.
19:48England starting to play these passes higher up the field.
19:53Foden's got involved.
19:54Rashford we've seen plenty involved.
19:57I've seen England play a patient game
20:00in both of their World Cup matches so far.
20:04Even in that
20:05six-goal blast against Iran.
20:08It took a little while before the rhythm was flowing.
20:12Wales have got to be patient too, Danny, haven't they?
20:14It's no point going gung-ho from the off.
20:16No, they can't.
20:17You have to respect the opposition.
20:18They've got to be patient.
20:19They've got to be patient.
20:20They've got to be patient.
20:21They've got to be patient.
20:22They've got to be patient.
20:23They've got to be patient.
20:24They've got to be patient.
20:25You have to respect the opposition
20:26and the quality that they have.
20:27You see the chance there for Rashford.
20:30Harry Kane just dropping into that kind of pocket.
20:33You're looking at the two centre-backs.
20:35Chris Mepham, Joe Rodon.
20:37There needs to be that communication
20:38with the midfield in front of you.
20:39He's going to drop into those areas.
20:41Are you passing him on?
20:42Are you following Harry Kane in there?
20:45Occasion bailed out by an excellent save by Danny Ward.
20:50Trying to find Kane.
20:53Only finding Joe Rodon.
20:56There you go.
21:03Here you go, Williams.
21:05Trying to curl one in for Gareth Bale
21:07but it's nice and easy for Bigfoot.
21:26John Stones.
21:39Foden.
21:45It's Walker firing over to Shaw.
21:49Made to look effortless.
21:51Shaw asks for and gets handball against Williams.
21:56He's got the ball.
21:59And he did just move slightly towards the ball.
22:01Here's this chance, though.
22:03The weight of ball from Harry Kane is absolutely spot on
22:05but you've got to give so much credit to Danny Ward, the keeper.
22:08He makes a decision, he commits to it.
22:10You can see clearly what Rashford's trying to do.
22:11He's just trying to lift it as he opens up his body.
22:14Keeper does really well.
22:15Spreads himself, makes a big save.
22:18Didn't have a great start to his Leicester City season, Danny Ward
22:20but he's been excellent in the games leading up to this tournament.
22:25Foden.
22:38Rashford's wandering away.
22:39It's Luke Shaw.
22:41He's going to put this one in, it seems.
22:48He's put it right the way to the back.
22:51Here's Foden waiting for the pieces.
22:53Foden.
22:55Tries the, not quite first-timer, but...
22:59Shot in double quick-time.
23:00Don't mind it, though.
23:01From Phil Foden.
23:02Seen him do this many a time.
23:05He's getting the shot off.
23:07Catch the keeper out.
23:08Just drags it wide.
23:1220th England cap.
23:13He's only scored two goals and they came in the one game.
23:174-0 against Iceland.
23:19Two years ago.
23:25Gareth Southgate.
23:34Gareth Southgate's selections and his set-up for the last game
23:37particularly criticised as Ward
23:40cheaply puts the ball out of play.
23:48But he's his own man, he's Gareth Southgate.
23:49He won't bow to what's being talked about outside
23:52if he even listens to it at all.
23:56It's Bellingham finding Foden.
23:59Henderson.
24:02Made up by Ampadu.
24:14The early signs have been better for England.
24:19Foden.
24:21Foden.
24:23Foden.
24:25Can't get all the way through.
24:29Back with Rice.
24:32Back with Stearns.
24:46First sounds of the red wall.
24:48Starting to get into full cry.
24:50He's trying to get the team going a little bit.
24:52It's a little bit too passive from Wales.
24:54Quite happy to kind of sit in that shape.
24:56You see the difference with England when it's in that midfield area.
24:59Quickly they spring on the press to win the ball back.
25:01Not quite as lively from Wales.
25:04Just allowing England a little bit too much time and space on the ball.
25:10Shaw beats Bale to it.
25:13Kane.
25:15A nudge from Chris Metham.
25:16A free kick for England.
25:19It's not clever that from Chris Metham.
25:20He should know how he came better than that.
25:22He's really smart from the England captain.
25:24He's just waiting for that challenge.
25:26It's just Rash.
25:29It's a clear foul.
25:30No need really, JG.
25:32He gets tight initially, which is good.
25:34But then he just wants a little nibble at it.
25:36No need really.
25:37Just keep your distance there.
25:38Force him across the field.
25:40Yeah, Rashford will be eyeing this up as well.
25:44In those first two games, this would have been Kieran Trippier.
25:48Somebody else gets a shot at the shy today.
25:52He's walked away from it.
25:54Trying something new.
25:55It's like a set-piece routine.
26:03The captain of Liverpool.
26:05He's almost the second captain on the field for England.
26:09He's orchestrating affairs.
26:17Right or Shaw?
26:18Right or left?
26:22Shaw seems to be the one who's setting it.
26:27I don't know whether it's going to be a direct one.
26:29I feel like they're going to try and do something here.
26:32Maybe clip it to the back post.
26:34Or lay it into someone to set on the edge of the box.
26:36There's something happening.
26:38Maguire's at the back.
26:40And he's on his toes already.
26:43That's where it's going from Shaw.
26:46Maguire unable, though, to direct it back into the mix.
26:50He thinks it should have been a corner.
26:52He's adamant.
26:54Yeah, you can see what they're trying to do.
26:56Aaron Maguire is so strong at that back post.
26:59But in fairness to Ethan Ampadute, just does enough.
27:07I think he does head it onto the back of Ampadute.
27:09A difficult one for the officials to call.
27:11Ampadute doing really well in the end on that far post.
27:13But that's not a matchup I want to see too often.
27:16Because it's a bit of a mismatch for me.
27:18We know how well Maguire attacks the ball.
27:20So that's something Wales will have to look at.
27:23England get another set piece.
27:26Stearns puts it out.
27:29Wales with the chance to play some football in the England half.
27:40Not for longer.
27:42It's all the way back to Ward.
27:43Kane will make him play this as quickly as he can.
27:48And he did.
27:51Here's Mepham.
27:54Stones.
28:10Royce.
28:28Will the scoreline in the other game have any sort of effect for Wales, Danny?
28:32Just thinking if it stays goalless in both for ages,
28:35then there might be the chance for one last chance.
28:37Quite possibly.
28:38But I don't think the players will be thinking about that too much.
28:42It's about what they do with their performance here.
28:45Yes, they need help elsewhere.
28:47But I'm sure the full concentration over the last couple of days
28:51has been on this England team and how they can pick a result up.
28:56Good reaction from Davis to get to the ball before Phil Foden.
29:00Now it's Moore against Walker.
29:02And Walker was there.
29:04And Moore had to wrap his leg around him
29:06before he kicked for the England man.
29:14Yes, just late to that one.
29:16Moore.
29:17Clear foul.
29:20I think from Wales' point of view,
29:22you'd be thinking just keep it tight as long as you possibly can.
29:26And then if you can get to as far as 60, 70 minutes at nil-nil,
29:31then you throw everything at it.
29:32It's got to be about staying in the game.
29:34You're taking the game in stages really.
29:36You get for the first 15, 20 minutes hopefully unscathed.
29:39And you try and get a bit of confidence in the game
29:42and you can adjust the game plans,
29:44how the game is then going.
29:48Declan Rice.
29:49Foden has started to come in from the right-hand side.
29:51Here he is.
29:52Outside him is Walker.
29:55Maguire.
29:57Shaw.
30:01Rice.
30:03Shaw's got it back to him.
30:09Shaw's put it over.
30:11Foden.
30:12Foden.
30:13Foden.
30:14Foden.
30:15Foden.
30:16Foden.
30:17Foden.
30:18Foden.
30:19Foden.
30:20Foden.
30:21Foden.
30:23Shaw's put it over.
30:24Henderson was waiting with his arm in the air for an age.
30:27Then the bounce of the ball deceived him.
30:32Walker to Rice.
30:34Rice urged to have a shot by England supporters.
30:38Across the face where...
30:42Wales are able to return it.
30:43But England were starting to find a bit of a fluency there.
30:45Jordan Henderson a little unfortunate.
30:48Yeah, really good from England now.
30:49Locking it around with a lot of confidence and pace as well.
30:53Having that ability today to be able to slow the game down
30:55and speed it up when necessary is going to be really important.
31:01Free kick England.
31:02But all their passing has been really crisp throughout the team.
31:10Davis on Henderson.
31:20Another chance for England to load the box.
31:26The heavy loads being Stones and Maguire.
31:33Maguire's right in the thick of the mix this time.
31:35Standing in front of Danny Ward.
31:38Ward was on the move.
31:40It came his way.
31:41I think he mistimed his jump.
31:42It may have been way over him.
31:43Rashford.
31:46Rashford has a go.
31:47Takes out Nico Williams.
31:48He got that absolutely full on.
31:51Looks like taking a blow from a middleweight.
31:53Excellent defending from Nico Williams.
31:55You just see here a powerful shot from Rashford
31:58looking to find that far corner.
32:00But he just gets himself down the line of the shot there.
32:02Nico Williams does the job.
32:05He's got the ball.
32:06He's got the ball.
32:07He's got the ball.
32:08He's got the ball.
32:09He's got the ball.
32:10He's got the ball.
32:11Nico Williams does the job of his goalkeeper almost.
32:15Brave defending.
32:17It just depends sometimes where it catches you on your head, don't it?
32:21If it hits you right on the top of your head, you're just dizzy.
32:26Protocols will have to be followed now.
32:28Exactly.
32:29I think that's what's happened now.
32:30I think instantly he's just felt light-headed
32:32and they're doing the right thing, making sure he's all right.
32:42Goal!
32:44Goal!
32:46Goal!
32:48Goal!
32:50Goal!
32:52Goal!
32:58Love it a lot from Harry Kane there.
33:00Does that all the time.
33:02Didn't think Rashford got much from it.
33:04Was asking him to lift it instantly when he gets into that position.
33:07It was either that or go around the goalkeeper.
33:10It was good from Danny Ward actually.
33:12He was out really quickly, just narrowed down that space.
33:15Looking at the finish and possibly could have gone under Danny Ward
33:18but he did the right thing.
33:20Excellent save in the end.
33:22Nico Williams is going to be OK.
33:24It's a good job they've taken time and gone through the necessary checks.
33:29Let's tell you what's coming up tomorrow.
33:31Another busy day.
33:33Really busy across BBC One and BBC Two.
33:36Tunisia against France from 2.30pm on one.
33:39And at 2.45pm if you prefer, there's a lot on Australia against Denmark on BBC Two.
33:45And then later on it's Poland against Argentina 6.30pm on BBC One.
33:49And from 6.45pm on two, Saudi Arabia against Mexico.
33:53D-Day in those two groups.
33:59The legend and our colleague at this tournament here in Russia
34:02has found himself a comfy seat for this one.
34:06Welcome.
34:20Welcome.
34:31Maguire.
34:36Williams.
34:37Fully recovered.
34:41Keefer-Moore.
34:42It was always going to be difficult.
34:45That is going to be the difficulty for Wales when they win the ball back.
34:48How they can work their way up the field.
34:50Difficult ball down the line there for Keefer-Moore.
34:53He is more than capable but got to find a way.
34:56Wales, when they win the ball back, are trying to play through the units,
35:00try to play through England.
35:03Seen too much of Gareth Bale or Aaron Ramsey on the ball as of yet.
35:11Foden.
35:16Now Walker.
35:20Drop of the shoulder.
35:22Threw Aaron Ramsey off.
35:25Davis, trapped by Foden.
35:29Davis used all his experience there, just felt a little tap.
35:32Down he went.
35:33Wanted to foul Ben Davis, didn't take much from Foden, did it?
35:37Two England players converging on him.
35:39Clever play in the end from Ben Davis.
35:45Aaron Ramsey, along with
35:49Joe Allen, Gareth Bale, Ben Davis,
35:51all played in the Euro 2016 meeting in Launce.
35:56Walker and Kane were in the England starting line-up that day.
35:59England 2, Wales 1.
36:00You may remember Wales taking the lead with a Bale free kick.
36:06Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge hit back for England.
36:12It's just the second ever meeting of the
36:15nations on foreign soil.
36:18Neutral soil.
36:31North.
36:33Did well to collect it and keep it up to a point.
36:38Kane, trying to do similar.
36:43Ramsey gets in the tackle just as Kane was looking for the pass to Rashford.
36:47Yeah, it's a really good tackle from Aaron Ramsey because he was
36:50just about to try and slot in Rashford.
36:53Just waiting for him to make the run.
36:55Henderson has now got the ball.
36:57Just waiting for him to make the run.
36:59Henderson has now brought down his
37:02former Liverpool colleague.
37:04I'm sure somebody who looked up to Jordan Henderson
37:06when he was breaking through the ranks at Liverpool,
37:08Nico Williams.
37:09Yeah, he's fired up, Jordan Henderson.
37:10You can hear him screaming
37:12to his teammates as the game's going on
37:15to press.
37:24Davis.
37:27Given away by James.
37:28Almost giving it straight back and in fact he has
37:32brought down John Stones.
37:34You can hear how much that hurt.
37:37Just late into the tackle.
37:39Daniel James and just a touch from John Stones
37:41just invited a tackle a little bit and
37:44just not quite on the same wavelength there.
37:46Daniel James looking to play a first-time ball around the corner
37:49in to keep them all probably should have been in that position to receive.
37:52It wasn't a bad ball, was it?
37:53No.
37:54It's one of those where
37:55if the ball's on that side of the pitch and
37:58you're struggling as a team.
37:59I want that ball around the corner already.
38:01I want my striker over on that side of the pitch
38:03so I can put it into his feet and he has to hold it up for me.
38:05I think
38:07Wales could do that a little bit better.
38:09Just get the ball into Keith Amore, win some free kicks,
38:12try and get themselves up the pitch.
38:17Caution to James.
38:22Caused by his own errant touch, really.
38:26Similar sort of situation that Soheim sent off for Chelsea
38:30or for Leeds rather, against Chelsea at the back end of last season.
38:33Yeah, but if I'm honest, we probably didn't see enough of that
38:36from this Wales team in the first two games,
38:38particularly around work times.
38:39The team got bullied,
38:41didn't see enough players
38:43running around making tackles, fouls as well.
38:46Certainly look more for it tonight.
38:49Here's Henderson.
38:50Bellingham is drifting forward.
38:55Rice.
39:05Shaw.
39:11Challenged by Matam on Bellingham.
39:12It's broken to Rice now.
39:14Foden's trying to stay on, on the right-hand side.
39:18And Foden has
39:20almost got through.
39:22Just a poor return from Jordan Henderson.
39:25Nicked it round him nicely, Phil Foden.
39:29On it again.
39:30Followed by Rodon.
39:32Just so quick, Phil Foden.
39:37That's why there was
39:38such a clamour from supporters to get him in the team.
39:41There's Maguire.
39:42And that was...
39:43He's going to go for a throw-in.
39:48You stick to heading, Harry, eh?
39:49Yeah.
39:50He just kept going and going, didn't he?
39:51It was just like, right, what am I doing here now?
39:54Put a little bit too much on it, shall we say.
39:56I don't mind him coming forward with the ball.
39:58It's how he kind of
39:59got his name initially.
40:01Harry Maguire.
40:02Driving with the ball
40:03from defensive areas.
40:04But he just needed to take a little bit off that one, I think.
40:08Seven England goals.
40:09Six of those
40:10have been with his head.
40:16Rashford.
40:18Cleared by Meppen.
40:21Nobody there.
40:22Need to settle down a bit there.
40:25A couple of loose passes from Rashford and Henderson.
40:29Don't know whether they're getting a bit frustrated now.
40:32Which is exactly what Wales would want.
40:36Grealish, Saka and Trippier look relaxed enough.
40:40Jack Grealish might have
40:41not had many minutes in this tournament.
40:43But every
40:44clip you see
40:45seems to be having the time of his life.
40:46He always is.
40:48That's what we love about him.
40:53And a World Cup goal against Iran.
41:17He's making himself available.
41:22Maguire.
41:24Shaw.
41:30Rashford.
41:31Shaw was running away.
41:35Ramsey.
41:36He's given it away.
41:37Rice.
41:38Foden.
41:42Henderson to Rice.
41:43Walker.
41:44Walker sets himself
41:45for the ball into the box
41:47where Chris Meppen was waiting for it.
41:49Nice ball as well.
41:51Harry Kane just kind of ran himself underneath the ball.
41:54It was right on the spot where
41:55I'm sure Karl Walker was looking
41:57to put it in.
42:01Nico Williams is still feeling the effects of that
42:03ball that he took pretty much right on top of his head.
42:07Yeah, it just looks like he's struggling
42:08very, very much.
42:10He's got a lot of energy.
42:12Yeah, it just looks like he's struggling.
42:14Brave defending it was.
42:16So often you see defenders in that kind of situation
42:18when a player's taking a shot on there
42:20very quick to kind of turn their body.
42:22They don't want to put themselves in front of the ball
42:24but he was the complete opposite
42:26right down the line of the shot
42:28and taking it fully on the top of the head
42:30and still feeling the effects
42:32by the looks.
42:33If he is struggling with that
42:34and feeling effects, then really
42:36and we had this in the opening game against Iran
42:38with the Iranian goalkeeper, didn't we?
42:40It wasn't as severe as that but still
42:42he has to go, he has to go off.
42:44That's exactly right.
42:46You've just got to listen to the advice
42:47that the medical team are giving you
42:49and I think having gone down again
42:51for a second time tells the story itself.
42:55I think the medical team
42:57will make the correct decision.
43:00That was it.
43:02Some watching at home won't think that's much
43:04but that was travelling.
43:05It's where it hits you.
43:06If that catches him on his forehead
43:08or even in his face, he'd probably be okay.
43:09But because it's right on top of his head
43:12it just has a different impact
43:15and that's obviously what caused the issue
43:18for Nico Williams.
43:20Well, Conor Roberts is ready
43:23and the Burnley man will come on shortly.
43:31Nico Williams has been brave enough
43:32at this tournament.
43:33He doesn't need to be any more stoic
43:36than he's already been.
43:38He's been fantastic
43:39and I think the player has to maybe
43:41take control of the situation a little bit as well.
43:44The importance, the magnitude of this game.
43:46There can be no passengers.
43:48So if Nico doesn't feel right
43:50he needs to get himself off.
43:52Able, Deputy and Conor Roberts waiting to come on.
43:54You're never going to do that, are you Gavin?
43:56That's the problem.
43:58You're never coming off the pitch
44:00so it just has to be taken out of your hands unfortunately.
44:03I think the medical staff have to take control
44:05and Sean Connolly knows all about this.
44:06A right back himself in his playing days.
44:08Why is he going to come off?
44:09It's a massive game.
44:10He's not going to want to come off.
44:12He's going off now
44:13and it's a rotten end for Nico Williams
44:16but you know what?
44:17One of his last acts of the tournament
44:19or we think, let's not go there yet.
44:21His last acts of this game
44:23was to stop an England attack.
44:25We didn't go there guys.
44:26You did.
44:27Okay.
44:34Roberts for Williams.
44:35Yeah, feel for him.
44:37Nico Williams.
44:41As you said, Gavi,
44:43giving everything in his shirt.
44:45Always does.
44:47For club and country.
44:53And that's gone down as a suspected concussion substitution
44:56which means
44:58one more available for both sides.
45:01And that's going to be a free kick for Wales.
45:10Does a fantastic job defensively.
45:12Kiefer Moore
45:13and so many headers for his team.
45:16Now a goody is
45:18attacking end of the pitch
45:19but he does a fantastic job for Wales
45:21on the defensive side as well.
45:31Ward looks for Moore.
45:33Pumps it on intending to find James.
45:37There is James, finding Ramsey.
45:41No free kick
45:42for Royce on Moore.
45:44And there's Bellingham to Foden.
45:47Kane and Rashford over on the left.
45:51Into Bellingham.
45:52Lovely touch.
45:54Bellingham
45:56to Foden.
45:57Too high.
45:59But just for a moment there, England look too good.
46:02Wow.
46:03This is slick.
46:04Sharp movement.
46:05Look at that flick from Jude Bellingham.
46:07Back into him.
46:09And you just knew that
46:10Foden was going to get a shot off.
46:13So quick, so sharp.
46:14Just trying to bend it into that far corner.
46:16Just leaning back slightly.
46:18But that's what England can do.
46:20And that's what England can do.
46:22And that's what England can do.
46:24And that's what England can do.
46:25And that's what England can do.
46:27And they really turn it on
46:28and go through the gears.
46:31They can just cut through you
46:33with the pace that they have and the quality.
46:44Roberts into the game.
46:46Ramsey.
46:50Bale.
46:52Shaw is there to help out Maguire.
46:53But he might not have helped out England
46:55because he's given it to Amthedon.
46:57Ramsey.
47:00Walker stops him shooting.
47:01Joe Allen has a go.
47:02And Rice stopped him.
47:05Rashford.
47:12Happy to run at Metham.
47:14Rice.
47:23Foden.
47:26Rodon dealt with it before it reached Kane.
47:27There's Rashford now.
47:30Rashford couldn't go all Richarlison on us.
47:34Well, he's got it in the locker.
47:36There's a little bit of fortune here
47:37with the deflection into Rashford.
47:40But I don't blame him at all for taking this on.
47:44Just comes off his shin.
47:47Gets that little bit of luck with the deflection.
47:49Marcus Rashford.
47:50But I'm just looking at
47:51Conor Roberts and Chris Metham there.
47:54Two players really essentially marking one.
47:56Need to get that communication right.
47:58Who's marking who.
47:59Can't be allowed that time and space inside the 18-yard box.
48:04There's just a little
48:06glance there as well into
48:09when Wales do try and maybe get forward and play that
48:13England can just catch them out.
48:14It's that kind of cat and mouse situation
48:16that Wales are constantly in in this game.
48:22There's Bellingham.
48:24There's Foden.
48:26Now Kane.
48:28Rashford.
48:30Back came Roberts to block.
48:32There were three waiting.
48:34And it seems as though we're now waiting
48:36for an England breakthrough.
48:37Yeah, exactly that guy.
48:38The spaces are starting to open up.
48:40England are picking up some
48:41good second balls in good areas.
48:44Just could Rashford pick out the right pass?
48:47I think Bellingham's the one that he was going for
48:49at the back post as you can see here.
48:51He just comes off his heel.
48:52Doesn't catch it right.
48:55Foden's on the corner.
48:57Maguire's up for it.
49:09Getting a variation of the bus stop.
49:11The love train.
49:12However you want to term it.
49:21Didn't work for England that time.
49:23It might in a roundabout way.
49:25Rashford.
49:27And Davis is forced to knock it behind
49:29due to the pressure.
49:32And that pressure is ramping up on Wales now.
49:35Yeah, you can slowly feel it starting to crank up
49:38from England's point of view.
49:41They've had their kind of phases of play
49:42where they've just kept the ball.
49:44In the sense that there's something that can happen now.
49:46Over it comes and it's
49:48firmly repelled by Joe Rodon.
49:51And there has been a goal
49:53in the other game in the group.
49:55And the USA lead Iran
49:58by a goal to nil.
49:59Chelsea's Christian Pulisic has got it.
50:02And that means the USA would go above Iran
50:06into second place and qualify with England.
50:09It also means the only scenario for Wales
50:11is they've got a chance to win.
50:12It also means the only scenario for Wales
50:14is they've got a win by four or more in this one.
50:16But it can all turn around again.
50:24At the moment, Wales' only mission
50:26is to make sure this goal is at the break.
50:29Yeah, so far so good.
50:31Just got a sense that England are starting to
50:33turn the screw.
50:34Wales have had to work really hard in this first half.
50:37Out of possession, haven't really been able to
50:39link anything together.
50:40In an attacking sense.
50:48Maguire to Stones.
51:03The USA versus Iran.
51:06Try and keep the politics out of sport in that one.
51:09Maguire.
51:13Foden coming in.
51:17A nigh on impossible task to keep it in.
51:19Yeah, it was a poor ball from Harry Maguire
51:21because it's on, and that ball's on all the time
51:23but he's just...
51:25The way he hit it, it was always going away from
51:27Phil Foden and it should have been curving towards him.
51:31It's an area of the pitch that England can exploit
51:33because they have good players,
51:34they've got good players.
51:35It's an area of the pitch that England can exploit
51:37because they have good movement on that right-hand side.
51:44Amr Rohid.
51:46Wales are still here.
51:49I suspect even if this is the endgame tonight,
51:51a lot of them will still be here for a week or two more.
51:55It wouldn't surprise me.
51:57Fans have really enjoyed themselves, just
52:00delighted to see
52:02Wales playing
52:04at a World Cup.
52:05It's been so long
52:07irrespective of this result
52:10or whatever the result is.
52:12Tremendously proud of the players
52:14and what they've achieved really
52:15over the last six, seven years.
52:17There's been a lot of them enjoying
52:19the red line in Doha.
52:21So I've been told.
52:23I've heard about this place, JJ.
52:24Have you been here or not?
52:25The guy's just exposed himself a little bit there.
52:28There's Kane.
52:34Shaw.
52:38Bellingham.
52:41Declan Rice was ordering Shaw out of his way.
52:44He didn't get the message quickly enough.
52:47Bellingham.
52:51Roberts puts it behind.
52:52England corner.
52:53He's the key for me, Drew Bellingham.
52:55Because he's almost the free spirit
52:57in the side.
52:58He can go where he wants.
52:59He drifts up on the left.
53:00He makes runs into the box.
53:01He's the one that I think is going to cause
53:03a lot of confusion in that
53:05defensive line.
53:12Bowdoin's corner.
53:15Three of them stopped Harry Maguire.
53:18There's Bale.
53:20Haven't seen him again tonight,
53:21but it's not been that sort of game yet for Wales.
53:23He might well come into his own later.
53:26Well, he only needs one moment.
53:27We know that.
53:28He's done it time and time again,
53:30but it's just been really difficult to get
53:32any of the attacking players on the ball.
53:34England have done a good job.
53:35When they have lost the ball,
53:36they'll be very quick to hunt the ball back.
53:38Wales haven't shown enough quality in possession.
53:44Shaw.
53:48I know Gareth.
53:49They need to be practicing free kicks all week.
53:53Just waiting for one moment.
53:55And they might well come.
53:59We're going to have at least five more minutes added.
54:02Most of that.
54:03Pretty much all of that.
54:04Goes for the delay for treatment.
54:06Nico Williams has gone off.
54:09Replaced by Connor Roberts as a concussion substitute.
54:18It's Rice.
54:19And there is Rashford for England.
54:24Kane.
54:25Nicely taken.
54:27Henderson was demanding the ball.
54:28Rashford has got it instead.
54:29And then given it straight to Dan James.
54:35In goes Walker.
54:39Free kick for Wales.
54:43It's halting.
54:44Potential Wales attack there.
54:45Kyle Walker following Dan James right across the pitch.
54:49He's managing to get two or three passes in.
54:51And as soon as Dan James gets his head up,
54:53though, the tackle's coming in.
54:56Here's Roberts.
54:59How fearless do Wales want to be in this stoppage time period?
55:03Got the chance on the ball in England's half.
55:12Halftime looming.
55:13But we can see Brennan Johnson getting ready to come on for Wales.
55:20I don't suppose they'll make the change before halftime unless they absolutely have to.
55:24You have to think that's a possible injury to one of the
55:27forward players.
55:28Everyone seems to be moving OK to me.
55:35Ward.
55:37Walker's coming for that.
55:39Allen.
55:47Given straight to Jordan Henderson.
55:49Kane.
55:52Bellingham.
55:53Pass a little behind him.
55:54Here's Shaw.
55:56And that doesn't reach anybody in white.
56:00Maguire.
56:01Great determination to get there before Moore.
56:03Kane.
56:05Kane's had a go and Maguire was in the way of it.
56:08Corner's been given.
56:10Yeah, it looked like it hit Aaron Maguire.
56:11You can see that Kane's just trying to shift it, wait for a yard.
56:14I think it did.
56:18He's just stopping, trying to get that yard.
56:20Just comes off the heel of Aaron Maguire.
56:22I think it goes out for a corner.
56:24This is an England bonus.
56:27It's the one thing in this first half that England have played really well.
56:29They'll be reasonably pleased.
56:31I think they'll feel this could have worked the goalkeeper a little bit more.
56:42Foden.
56:44To the back for Stones.
56:46And Ward.
56:48Has it and holds it.
56:51Confident goalkeeping.
56:53Easy one in the end for him.
56:54He'd had a backer cross goal, could have been awkward.
56:57It's obviously an area that England feel Wales are weak.
57:00They've highlighted Ampadu at that back post quite a lot.
57:03Harry Maguire has done it.
57:04John Stones on this occasion.
57:07In fairness to Ethan Ampadu, he's stood the test so far.
57:11He's just got a blow.
57:13It's only a glancing blow this one.
57:15There's no need for prolonged treatment here.
57:17But Ethan Ampadu needed a bit of a break.
57:21He's okay.
57:22This was how it happened.
57:25Just gets the first contact.
57:28John Stones coming in behind as well.
57:33Ward will get this up and away as far as he possibly can.
57:40Moore.
57:42Ramsey.
57:45Roberts.
57:47Ashford very quickly into tackle.
57:49And a little bit from Connor Roberts that
57:52possibly wasn't necessary.
57:53The referee is going to have a word with him.
57:57And a brief word with Rashford too.
58:01It's not been played like that at all.
58:04Connor Roberts showing some fire.
58:11Bales coming for the throw.
58:13Roberts has told him to get back into the box.
58:16That's where this has to go.
58:18We are in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
58:20Something different.
58:23Here's Allen.
58:25Allen's effort is high and wide.
58:27But neatly worked by Wells.
58:29All England expecting that to be hurled into their penalty area.
58:33England expecting a long throw in.
58:35Even I was expecting a long throw in.
58:37But well worked.
58:39Into Chris Metham.
58:40Nice ball into Joe Allen.
58:42Back inside onto that left foot.
58:43Catches it really well.
58:45Always rising.
58:47Good moment for Wells though.
58:48Goalless at halftime.
58:50England largely on top.
58:52But perhaps they haven't created as much as they would have wanted
58:55to.
58:56But a little flurry from Wells at the end to show they are very
58:59much in this as a contest.
59:02And they are fighting for their World Cup lives.
59:05We are going to be entertained by a halftime show now.
59:08Chesney Hawks live on the field.
59:11I will hand you back to the one and only Gary Lineker and co.
59:15No singing here unless Alan Shearer starts.
59:18He does like a sing song occasionally.
59:20With USA winning in the other game at present against Iran.
59:24As it stands, England will go through as group winners on
59:27goal difference and will face Senegal on Sunday.
59:30However, Wales would be out unless they can go on to beat
59:33England by four or more goals in the second half.
59:36Big ask.
59:37A reminder that second place which is currently the USA will
59:40take on the Netherlands.
59:42As it stands, of course.
59:44Well, England...
