00:00We go now to Caracas, as our special envoy Juno Zuner brings us an update from the Bolivar Theatre,
00:06where the second gathering for the World Social Alternative is taking place.
00:12Hello from Caracas, actually from the Bolivar Theatre in the centre of Caracas,
00:17from the second meeting of the World Social Alternative convened by ALBA-TCP,
00:24the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of America, Treaty of the Peoples,
00:30together with the Simon Bolivar Institute located here in Caracas.
00:34During two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, experts from all over the country,
00:40as well as from all kinds of Latin American countries and beyond,
00:45will discuss global topics here in the theatre,
00:49and they have started today's morning with presentations from the Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Ivan Gil,
00:56from the former Foreign Minister of Venezuela and current Executive Secretary of the ALBA, Jorge Ariasa,
01:04and different speakers from different countries, especially also from the European countries,
01:09that took up on the coming up elections on July 28th, and also media campaigns.
01:16In that context, they warned of possible imperialist media campaigns against Venezuela's election institutions
01:26and destabilizing the country by spreading false and illegal news.
01:31An example was given by Patricia Villegas, the President of TeleSUR.
01:35She said that the opposition here was going to emanate results of the elections
01:43before the National Election Council would do so.
01:46But remember, the National Election Council is the only authority that can do so legally,
01:52so these news will be spread out illegally and falsely,
01:56and international media organs will disseminate them and will distribute them,
02:01thus causing instability and thus causing damage to the institutions of the country,
02:06Villegas said, who also called to alphabetize the citizens digitally,
02:12to teach them how to read the news, how to read the social news specifically,
02:18and she also called, this was another demand also applauded by other participants,
02:22to create our own spaces, our own virtual spaces and our own social networks,
02:28because all participants agreed upon the one idea that these social networks that are right now existing
02:37are being dominated by the U.S. Empire.
02:40Some of them gave even examples, name by name,
02:43how U.S. government employees were deployed to lead these social media companies.
02:51So the discussions have started.
02:53They will also continue along topics such as networking among different social movements,
02:59and they will continue tomorrow, on Wednesday, also looking for how to maintain global peace,
03:05given the increasing imperialist aggressions in Europe and elsewhere.
