Scotsman golf correspondent Martin Dempster previews the 2024 Senior Open at Carnoustie

00:00Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:07Carnoustie, venue for this week's Senior Open, presented by Rolex. This is the third time
00:15the over-50s Major has been held at the Angus venue, the previous winners being Bernard
00:23Lange and Paul Broadhurst. Terrific field once again, assembled here for the Senior
00:31Claret Jug event, with Paul Lorry bidding to land that prize 25 years after winning
00:38the Open Championship. Colin Montgomery, he'll be another player looking to get into
00:44contention this weekend, with a total of nine Scots in the field. Three of those players,
00:50Andrew Oldcorn, Scott Henderson and Doug McGuigan, came through qualifiers on Monday
00:55and they're really looking forward to teeing up with some of the best senior players in
01:02the world. Padraig Harrington, who came close to winning this event at Gleneagles two years
01:08ago, he'll be one of the favourites. And Stephen Alker, the Kiwi, who's had a tremendous senior
01:14career, he's another player to look out for when the event gets underway on Thursday.
01:21Carnoustie just gets better and better, it's a championship venue, it's hosted the Women's
01:27Open, the Open in recent years, and Craig Both, the head greenkeeper here, once again
01:37he's got the course looking fantastic as it comes in the golfing spotlight once again.
