00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers, and oh goodness,
00:06we're going to be having a spot of Sherlock Holmes' Arthur Cain and Doyle in Eastbourne
00:12this summer with The Hound of the Baskervilles. And it's lovely to speak to Tom Richardson,
00:17who is Sir Henry in this show. That's just the three actors, isn't it?
00:22Yeah, very much the third wheel.
00:24How are you going to do that then?
00:26Well, yes, it's a big multi-role show where we play multiple characters. And we have the
00:35Sherlock and Watson relationship, but then all the other characters they meet on their
00:39journey keep appearing from stage left, stage right, upstage, downstage. So, yes, it keeps
00:44coming at you, all of us, changing characters all the time.
00:48And how much truth is there to the original story then? It's not complete send-up. We
00:53do get the story, don't we?
00:55No, you absolutely get the story. Yeah, it's not a send-up. Yeah, the comedy comes out
00:59of them putting the play on. The three of us are playing ourselves as actors at the
01:05beginning of the story. And we put the play on. So, they're very much trying and moving,
01:12and well, they're moving through the story very, very cleanly. And you see all their
01:18expertise of swapping costumes all the way through the play. So, yeah.
01:22Sounds great. Now, Sir Henry, what's your take on Sir Henry? And it's a little bit of
01:26Bertie Wooster then, doesn't it?
01:28Yeah, I think that's in there. I mean, it's definitely in there at this stage in rehearsals.
01:32I mean, we'll see how that plays out. But yeah, he's the heir to the Baskerville fortune,
01:38and he's arrived from Canada. And Holmes and Watson are here to stop him from going out
01:48onto the moor and...
01:49Reaching his fate, yes.
01:52So, it's going to be scary, too, amongst all the comedy?
01:56Scary, too. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. It is a thriller. It absolutely is a thriller
02:00as much as it is an out-and-out comedy. So, we're balancing the comedy-thriller quality
02:05well, I think, or so far, anyway.
02:08Fantastic. And it's at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park Theatre from August the 1st to the 31st.
02:13Lovely to speak to you. Have a great time.
02:16Thank you very much.
02:18Yes, absolutely.
02:20Thank you.
