00:00Weakless in Seattle despite the Houston Astros winning the first
00:08two games of a weekend set of three against their divisional
00:12foes. Seattle responds yesterday with a 6-4 victory in the
00:16finale, despite Jordan Alvarez hitting for the cycle for the
00:21Stros. Houston wins the first two, Seattle wins the finale to
00:26snap a five-game skid for the Mariners. So at the end of this
00:31weekend series, with Seattle holding a one-game advantage
00:34entering the all-star break in the American League West, but
00:38the Astros taking two of three in a weekend series win. They
00:42are tied at the top in the division.
00:46Yeah, take a look yesterday. And again, this is going to be,
00:48I mean, you're going to look at musical chairs probably the
00:51rest of the way here and maybe the Texas Rangers can make a
00:54run to sort of get up to that and make it a three-way run to
00:57the final. Because the one thing that we do know, Ben, before
00:59we talk about the game itself, is somebody has to win this
01:01division. Somebody's going to have home field advantage in
01:03round number one in the Major League Baseball playoffs, and
01:06you're going to get a decided bump in that price if you can
01:08pick right now who that top team is going to be in the AOS.
01:12But yesterday, you had Blanco go on the mound five and two-thirds
01:15innings pitch, six hits and four earned runs. Not good enough,
01:18even though Blanco, 9-5 on the season, deals ERA even after
01:21yesterday, 2.75. Maybe the best pitcher in the rotation as a
01:25whole for the Astros, certainly. You take a look at Wu, who was
01:28on the mound, who actually came in with decent statistics, five
01:30and two-thirds innings pitch, only two earned runs, 5Ks.
01:33He has a 2.54 ERA because we know it's a pitcher's paradise,
01:37typically in Seattle, but he got 10 runs yesterday. The Mariners
01:40really needed that win, weren't able to get run over by the
01:43Astros, who I said again, the Astros going to take on the
01:45athletics with the chance, maybe, to distance themselves
01:48from the Seattle Mariners. But this is going to be one to
01:50watch, and I'm not surprised by this, because even coming
01:52into the season, we knew Seattle had a good young pitching
01:54staff, played in a pitcher's ballpark, and they would be
01:57able to hang around as a competitive team. I just didn't
01:59think that Seattle would be giving up this lead so early
02:01and now say, okay, two months to go, you're going toe-to-toe
02:04with the Astros. I can't give the Mariners the nod there,
02:07Ben.
