00:00It's believed frozen desserts originated in Persia as far back as 550 BC with ice cream
00:07itself a relatively more modern invention. On this side of the pond the first recorded
00:12mention of ice cream in England was in 1671. According to Google search data the most popular
00:18flavour of ice cream in Liverpool is vanilla, followed by Neapolitan, pistachio, rum raisin
00:23and in fifth place is banana. We've been in Southport to ask the flavour of your favourite
00:28scoop.
00:29I always end up going for something that's probably got some sort of fruit in it, apricot
00:35or blackcurrant. I love a blackcurrant and cream ice cream. I did have a pretty horrendous
00:40black garlic ice cream once which I had to try but it wasn't, I won't be repeating the
00:46experience.
00:47Mint chocolate I like.
00:50We live in North Wales and they've got really good local made ice creams and I think my
00:57favourite has got to be rum and raisin but for some strange reason my granddaughter likes
01:03something that's bright blue called bubblegum. I wouldn't recommend that to anybody.
01:09If we can't film an ice cream place like Fredericks or whatever but I like chocolate, yeah.
01:17I don't know about you but I think it's time for an ice cream break. I'm going to head
01:20over from Sefton Park to Lough Leane to grab myself a cool refreshing treat.
01:26Heading down Lough Leane in search of an ice cold treat. My first port of call was
01:32gelato but with queues out the door I thought no way I can't wait for that so I headed to
01:38the newly opened Grand Cafe where they offer a selection of authentic gelatos and sorbets.
01:45Their homemade gelato uses traditional recipes and ingredients to bring you a true taste
01:51of Italy.
01:52I'm going to head back to the park to enjoy my sweet treat.
01:57It's dripping all over me because it's so hot. I grabbed some gelato from the Grand
02:03Cafe on Lough Leane and I got some vanilla and some pistachio. Let's have a taste.
02:13Mmm. That taste of vanilla bean is so nice. I know it seems like such a basic flavour
02:22but when done right I think it can be quite hard to beat. I wish it wasn't melting so
02:27much all over me. I'm going to take a get down deeper where the layer of pistachio is.
02:34Just look at that. Mmm. Wow that is simply sensational. Some really good authentic pistachio
02:48gelato. You can't really beat it although you have to be quick on a day like today before
02:55it melts all over you. Cheers.
