Sara turns over reins of DepEd to Angara

Vice President Sara Duterte turns over the reins of the Department of Education to former senator Juan Edgardo Angara at the DepEd office in Pasig City on July 18, 2024. Duterte said she has no regrets being at helm of DepEd for two years but that her reasons for stepping down were for "personal, political and professional reasons." She also reiterated that she would not attend President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address on July 22 and would not campaign for the candidates of the administration or for those of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

01:57Oh, no. In fact, it is with a heavy heart that I leave the Department of Education.
02:04I love this job. I love my colleagues in the Department of Education.
02:11I mean, tell me, you know, why you resigned?
02:13That's a long story. We need a sit-down.
02:17We need a sit-down for reasons.
02:21What is your gist, ma'am?
02:23Well, there is a personal relationship between the two of us and President Marco.
02:28Which stems from what we talked about before I agreed to work for the President.
02:34He has a job and he has a country.
02:42Here in Manila, I will be overseeing...
02:45Where, ma'am? In your office?
02:47In your office, ma'am?
02:48In my office, ma'am. I haven't done my schedule for Monday.
02:53But I'm sure I will be back in Manila.
02:56Before I resigned, we had a meeting where President Marco invited me to join
03:03and help the administration for the senators, senator candidates.
03:11And I told him, I will not join the midterm elections.
03:18In another meeting with President Duterte, former President Duterte,
03:24by chance we met with former President Duterte,
03:27he also invited me to help and support the candidates of the PDP.
03:37So I told him, I will not join the midterm elections.
03:44I need to think about my direction for the midterm elections next year.
03:54So I'm not ready to answer to the two of them about what to do for the midterm elections.
04:02But we have a schedule after the midterm elections.
04:06Senator Bong Go and Senator Pato de la Rosa will sit down and we will work hard together.
