The Nets win total sits at 19.5 games, should it be even lower?
Transcript
00:00just talked about Boston's win total, and I said from the penthouse, the Celtics, to the outhouse,
00:05the Brooklyn Nets, who are in the midst of their third rebuild from scorched earth in the last
00:12decade, after trading Mikal Bridges to the Knicks, trading Kevin Durant a couple years ago to the
00:17Phoenix Suns. New coach for Brooklyn, Jordy Fernandez, right? Cam Thomas gonna shoot 50
00:25times a game. Cam Johnson will probably take the other 30 shots. Daddy Klax, Nick Klaxon,
00:30did sign like a 25 million per year deal to return to Brooklyn, so he'll be around for the tank and
00:35will be paid handsomely for his efforts. The Nets' win total, a cataclysmic 19 and a half,
00:42so the market is expecting Brooklyn to lose 60 plus games this season. Ken, is this one where
00:48you look at it and say, you know what? New coach, we like Cam Thomas, can they win 20 games? Or
00:55is this going to be even worse than we think? And it's kind of like the subtext here that I
00:59should add, and I'm sure you'll talk about this also, is like this past draft was brutal with
01:04Reese O'Shea and Saar at the top. Next year's NBA draft headline by Cooper Flagg, not so much.
01:10Expected to be very, very good. Yeah, you definitely think there's a little bit of
01:14tanking that's going to happen between certainly Brooklyn, Chicago if they trade players,
01:21can they bottom out? Washington will definitely be in the mix again. I mean,
01:24it's a team from last year plus Saar, you think they're going to be way better? Of course not.
01:29And maybe no Kuzma. So yeah, it's just the tanky teams will be tanky again,
01:34and they're actually pursuing like a pretty good prize, like something that's worth pursuing. So
01:38definitely can't rule out really bottoming out. I just, you know, the market expects like a
01:44win total that starts with one is a pretty brutal indictment of what the season's going to be. So I
01:52don't think this is just like, oh, well, you bet the under because they're going to tank.
01:5619 and a half is a tank number. Like it's not, the 19 and a half isn't a bad team number,
02:00it's a tank number. And you, we see this all the time. This is close to how Washington was
02:04rated last year. It just, I think it's just indicative of where they're at. I don't think
02:09there's an, I actually think this is one of the least interesting ones. I think Boston's more
02:13interesting than this, because you at least have the fatigue going into the season. Do you want to
02:16bend an under on a really good team? You have that angle Atlanta we've done so far. They're
02:20interesting. This is like, everyone expects terrible. You should also expect terrible.
02:26Market is terrible. Great. All it's all in line. Nothing going on here. Yeah, do the do the high
02:33usage player thing for before. All right. How many games can a team win when the a high usage player
02:38is cam Thomas? I just went, what else would you like to say? You know? And like, maybe Fernandez
02:45is a great coach. Like to me, he's like shepherding the tank and then he'll be replaced by like a high
02:49level coach when it's ready to win again, probably. Maybe he'll get another job. Who knows?
02:55Good. By then, maybe anything's possible in the NBA at this point. Yeah. Just not, not as much
03:01to talk about here. Yeah. It's just, they're good. They're going to be really bad. I don't
03:05know. For some reason, when you said like cam Thomas is the a level player whenever,
03:10not every single time. But when I think about cam Thomas, I think of that eyes bleed St. Bonaventure
03:17LSU first round game a couple of years ago where we bet the bodies. Yeah. And they just,
03:22they just went LSU minus two. They went by like 27. It was pretty bad. It doesn't have to be the
03:30a level player. Like it's the point is they don't have one. That's the, I mean, it's, you can say,
03:34well, it's cam Johnson. Okay. Well, does that change your answer to the question?
03:37You want daddy to become an offensive superpower? You want Ben Simmons to play? I just,
03:43I don't see a lot here. I guess the, you know, it market expects the worst possible season.
03:49You would try to find reasons to play an over. If that was the case, if you were going to bet it,
03:54I mean, I guess it's like Simmons plays and him cam Johnson and Claxton gets you to 23, 24,
04:01but they don't want that to happen. The last 20 games of the season, none of those guys should
04:04play the last 20 games of the season. Like it's, it should be like an out loud tank.
04:11At the deadline. Sure. Or just, but like the point is like you, the players will always be
04:16competitive, but you can totally tank by just choosing to sit them out with mysterious injuries
04:22and not play them. You can, you could put your finger on the scale and the NBA teams do it all
04:25the time. So it's not when we ever, we talk about tanking and this is like kind of with the NFL,
04:29it's like, Oh, are they trying to lose? It's like the players are never trying to lose,
04:32but you can just tell the good players they're not playing. And then you will lose. That's actually,
04:36that's how it's supposed to go. So I would expect the nets to be in the market to do that.
04:40They'd be foolish not to do that.
