00:00The unlikely champion, the first in a history of the Dodgers organization in his first season
00:09at Chavez Ravine. Teoscar Hernandez outlasted Bobby Witt Jr. last night of the Kansas City
00:15Royals to win the 2024 home run derby crown in Arlington. 14 long balls in that final
00:22round. Bobby Witt Jr. only able to muster up 13. His final pitch of the night for Bobby
00:29Witt Jr. was a deep and sky-high fly off the base of the wall in center. He shrugged in
00:36disappointment. Teoscar Hernandez immediately celebrating. 49 total home runs for Hernandez
00:43last night in DRS. He entered the home run derby in a field of eight with the sixth best
00:49price. That's third longest at 12 to 1. Cash, a big plus money price on the underdog last
00:56night for Teoscar Hernandez who had the longest price of the four into the second and
01:01semifinal round and was the underdog against Bobby Witt Jr. in that championship round as
01:06well. Plus money across the board for Teoscar Hernandez. Yeah, and also yesterday from a
01:11handicapping perspective, we talked about this extensively. You know, how do you actually
01:16approach the home run derby? And sometimes it comes down to its simplest form. You take a
01:20look and say, well, I don't know if I want to lay minus what, 250, 280, whatever it was on
01:24Pete Alonzo to advance into the semifinals. So I went Jose Ramirez and not basically
01:28because I thought he was a great hitter. It's like, okay, there's eight guys that can all do
01:32it equally basically. And as it turned out, there were a lot of upsets there. Plus 198 gets
01:36into the next round. I thought that was a possibility. And also from a guy that's been in
01:40the actual tournament before, didn't have a great appearance in his first time around, had a
01:45better appearance yesterday. That worked out certainly in the favor. But also if you were
01:48just looking, and the joke was yesterday too, was why don't you just take like Alec Bohm at
01:5220 to one, 22 to one, whatever, close that because like, hey, maybe he can do something. He
01:56looked like he was damn near right to steal that thing. And he advances with a nice money
02:00price into the semifinals, but offended by Hernandez. But it did come down to that final hit
02:05for Bobby Witt, which hit the bottom of the wall. So he did have a little bit of intrigue
02:08there at that point. But from my angle of it, it was okay. Maybe it should be Pete Alonzo. The guy
02:13doesn't make it there. But number two, we talked about this yesterday. Like this is an
02:17arena, or should I say a huge stadium that is enclosed with a dome with the air conditioning
02:23on. There was no real handicap going into it. But just looking at the total distance of the
02:26longest home run by going, it's not great conditions to hit. And it easily been stayed under
02:31that total. Now granted, I gave that information yesterday, didn't bet it myself only had a small
02:35piece on the best bet of the day as it worked out. But it wasn't a bad home run derby. But there
02:40are changes that I would like to see. But certainly a worthy winner in task or hand is to
02:43perform in front of all of those players and those fans where you are the spotlight to win it.
02:48That's a pretty big deal.
