00:00UMNO does not belong to its top leaders, be it the Supreme Council or the respective wing
00:07chiefs, but instead to all its members, says UMNO Youth Chief Dr. Ahmad Saleh.
00:13Commenting on the party's poor showing in recent elections, the Malacca executive councillor
00:17said the party's political survival depends on pressure from the grassroots for change.
00:23He said by speaking their mind and being heard by the top leadership, the grassroots can
00:27save the party from sinking further into irrelevance.
00:30Akmal added that the 26 parliamentary seats UMNO won in the 15th general election, compared
00:36with the 109 seats it held 20 years ago, showed it was high time for the grassroots to lead
00:40the way and bring the party back to glory.
00:44He said the party cannot be used as a shield to defend certain individuals and that the
00:48people want principled leaders.
00:51Akmal also commented on UMNO Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam attacking him for
00:55criticizing the party leadership, saying having differing opinions does not mean he
00:59is against the party and the diverse viewpoints are shared and appreciated by all for a healthy
01:04debate.
