00:02:02The game's not over yet.
00:02:05We have everything to change this game.
00:02:08We have the will, the desire for better, the heart, and the inspiration.
00:02:20When we stand united for a better tomorrow, we can still win this game.
00:02:26We have the people, goal of the century.
00:02:56New Balance, what you got now?
00:03:26All the feelings of football, sponsored by Google Pixel 7.
00:03:40Well we thought we were heading in for a goalless halftime but that wasn't the case because
00:03:44N Nasseri came up with the goods in the 42nd minute to put Morocco 1-0 up, what a time
00:03:51to score, to give his team the lead, a very, very significant goal indeed and you can imagine
00:03:57the fans of Morocco around the world have been celebrating wildly and here are the scenes
00:04:03in Marrakech, doesn't that just look fantastic and I'm sure it's the same for all the Moroccans
00:04:08watching wherever they are in the world.
00:04:10Now remember I told you that before we went to the game there were a few problems outside
00:04:14the stadium, it was quite chaotic because there were hundreds of ticketless fans trying
00:04:18to get in, which meant there was trouble for those with tickets to get in, the police
00:04:21trying to get a hold of the situation and keep it under control but here are a couple
00:04:26of fans that managed to make it in, around the 20 minute mark you can see them rushing
00:04:30to their seat, remember they want to be here to see their team potentially make history
00:04:35and lucky for them they were in the stadium in time to see the goal and I think we should
00:04:41get straight to the analysis because we didn't think we were going to see a goal but Nadia
00:04:45We certainly did, didn't we? What a time for him to score.
00:04:48Perfect timing just before the half time, I think they've been brilliant the way they've
00:04:53been starting the game compact and then obviously going for the chances and here they managed
00:04:57to need a couple of passes together and then an amazing cross from the outside back and
00:05:05Nasseri, he's there where he's supposed to be as a nine target player and I think even
00:05:09Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of that jump.
00:05:11Acosta, you know a young 23 year old goalkeeper, 12 games for Portugal, just gets it all wrong,
00:05:21doesn't pick the flight up, maybe clashes into his own player there and made a hash
00:05:25of it. If he stays at home I think he needs to have a safe room. He made his mind up early
00:05:29to come and just got it all wrong, cost his team dearly.
00:05:33From El Nasseri's point of view, he was the first Moroccan to score three World Cup goals,
00:05:38he was his second at this World Cup, although Portugal, they did have a few chances, didn't
00:05:43they? Should they have made better of these chances?
00:05:45Yeah, I wouldn't say better of these chances because of the majority of this game, it was
00:05:51great defending by Morocco and really frustrating for Portugal's offence. I think we can just
00:05:57look at the first chance here, I think it was the best chance they had that they did
00:06:00here. It was on sight, of course they got first post, they had to do better than this.
00:06:05I think it was the best chance they had in the first half. He couldn't really slot it
00:06:10away enough in the corner, it was a great save from the goalkeeper, but if I would say
00:06:14that they had the best chances, not really.
00:06:17Well, if you have Felix here, he hits the shot, takes a wicked deflection, could easily
00:06:21have ended up in the back of the net. But, as Nye says, they've been limited to very
00:06:26little Portugal. Morocco have sat in deep and frustrated the life out of them, they
00:06:31just make them go square all the time. Fernandes here, only he knows if he meant that or not.
00:06:37Certainly a worthy goalkeeper, could easily have dipped in. We've seen him do it in England,
00:06:43he is adventurous when he plays football. Fernandes, too much at times. I'm leaning
00:06:49more to the thought he may have tried that, but they've been frustrated, Portugal. I think
00:06:55they maybe get a change at half-time. They need a player who can skip past someone.
00:07:01This was actually the penalty shout. Anything in this, guys?
00:07:04No, nothing. I mean, you could see also who was at the end of it, and who was laying on
00:07:08the floor again. We all know, especially from back in the UK in the Premier League, Fernandes
00:07:14has a feeling of going to the ground in circumstances like this, a situation like this, and it was
00:07:19not enough for me to give it a penalty. Especially in a moment of the game like that, the referee
00:07:24made a good call, I think the VAR made a great call.
00:07:26OK, well, it is competition time now, and with every goal that goes in, more money gets
00:07:31added to our prize fund. To be in with a chance to win, take a look at this.
00:07:37Time now for your chance at home to win an amazing £30,000 and an extra goal-busting
00:07:42bonus. Every goal scored during the tournament will add an extra £250 to the £30,000 prize
00:07:48pot, and with 148 goals scored before the quarter-finals, that jackpot will be at least
00:07:54£67,000. Count up the goals and count up that jackpot.
00:08:00For your chance to win, just go to the website, entries cost £2, text GOAL to 80567, text
00:08:06cost £2 plus your standard network rate message, or post your name and number to GOAL22, PO
00:08:12box 7558, Derby DE1 0NQ. Entrants must be 18 or over. Paid entry routes close at 10am
00:08:21on Monday 9th January. Good luck.
00:08:24He's going to miss the second half. Oh, so's he. And that's why KFC Delivery sponsors
00:08:38ITV's coverage of the FIFA World Cup.
00:08:43Let's get in the moment now, Peloton.
00:08:46Halfway through, don't hold anything back.
00:08:48Yo. Come on, you've got this. Let's go. Bring that energy. Turn it up. Mmm, love it.

00:09:18Have you not seen my new phone yet? It literally faulted off.
00:09:46I would never switch to Samsung. I love my phone.
00:09:50What?
00:09:55It literally faulted off. You see, I love my phone. I would never switch to Samsung.
00:10:00Erm, would you like some chicken with that gravy? The KFC Gravy Double Bucket. Available
00:10:19this Christmas.
00:10:30If you ever hear that thunder, put your eye to the sky, boy, and wonder. Maybe there's
00:10:54a kingdom above the weather. Oh, and whether you're gonna get on in is up to you. Carry
00:11:09onward like some somber, beautiful stranger.
00:11:14The internet's blowing up again. What a nightmare.
00:11:26Dad, it won't stop spinning.
00:11:32It's been loading forever.

00:11:56Be your own boss. Boss Bottled. Buffo. The new intensity.
00:12:20All the feelings of football. Sponsored by Google Pixel 7.
00:12:26Well, make sure you join Mark Pugash and the team from 6 o'clock here on ITV1 for live
00:12:36and exclusive coverage of England's quarterfinal against world champions France. We cannot
00:12:42wait. Okay, moments ago until the second half kicks off here at the Alfa Mama Stadium. I'm
00:12:47just wondering, from Portugal's perspective, are they crying out to see that man come on
00:12:51and make a difference?
00:12:53They need to get someone who can take someone on, drop a shoulder, skip past them, commit
00:12:57the next offender, and the thing opens up in the middle. Get Raphael Leal on, or indeed
00:13:02the man himself. Is it written in a star for Ronaldo? It looks like it.
00:13:07Well, maybe. Morocco, though, they are 45 minutes away from making history. Can they
00:13:13hold on to their lead? It's back to Ali and John. Thank you, Seema. Morocco
00:13:19following in the footsteps of Cameroon and Ghana in taking the lead in a World Cup quarterfinal.
00:13:25Those others were unable ultimately to see it through. They came mighty close. Cameroon
00:13:32in 1990 within eight minutes of beating England in Naples. Coming to a couple of late Gary
00:13:37Lineker penalties. Senegal, 2002, beaten by a golden goal against Turkey and Osaka. And
00:13:45Amidst all the passion and controversy of that, Luis Suarez's handball, beaten off penalties
00:13:50by Uruguay and Johannesburg. Asimov's penalty hitting the bar late in extra time after Suarez's
00:13:56handball. So what does the second half have in store here? Could be a momentous day, not
00:14:04just for Morocco, but for African football in general. 100 per cent. What an achievement.
00:14:10I think the great man said, African nation, barely said, just about the turn of the millennium,
00:14:15didn't he? I think he said it in about 1977. Yeah. What happened by the turn of the millennium?
00:14:21Fantastic. I've just got to get back to that. They played really well. They really have.
00:14:26They've been organised. I said to you in the break, John, I don't think I've been happier
00:14:31watching a team in terms of the way they want to play. Their shape, they play to their strengths.
00:14:37They're really, really well organised. Get back to the goal. Is the goalkeeper at fault?
00:14:42Of course he is. But what I'll say to you is this, if you watch again, En-Nesyri does
00:14:48not take his eyes off the ball one bit when the cross comes in from Atiara. He wants it.
00:14:55Nothing's stopping him getting it. Goalkeeper should do better. But good centre forward
00:15:00plays well. Majestic header.
00:15:05Portugal in the white. This is Ruben Diaz.
00:15:11Pepe. Ruben Neves.
00:15:15Dallo forward.
00:15:18Atiara.
00:15:21He's quick, John. Atiara, he does really well to cover the ground.
00:15:27The ball gets played out to him. I thought it was his ball all day, looking for the delivery.
00:15:33Very quick covering from the full-back.
00:15:36A good couple of minutes before Morocco for this second half.
00:15:40Pepe with some theatrics, hurling himself to the floor.
00:15:44And now off in pursuit of the referee, suggesting that he should have had a penalty. He's still at it.
00:15:50He's got his hold of his jersey. There's not enough to make him go down, I don't think.
00:15:57But when you're a defender and you grab somebody by the jersey, you run the risk of
00:16:03a referee or somebody having a look at it. Certainly not enough for him to go to ground, John.
00:16:09But, as I say, you're taking a chance.
00:16:14Ruben Diaz.
00:16:19Pepe.
00:16:33Hakimi.
00:16:36Hakimi, who can, when Morocco are in the mood and up against opposition,
00:16:51that they feel they can hurt that way, can be a really, truly potent attacking weapon.
00:16:56That was an excellent run.
00:17:00Not only earning his team a free kick, he could have gone down there.
00:17:04But completely takes the pressure off them.
00:17:07He said in the first half, I like the full backs.
00:17:11Hakimi, Nati Atala.
00:17:13Didn't see enough of what they're going forward, but I tell you what,
00:17:16when they do go forward, they don't have to go forward with pace.
00:17:29This will be delivered by Ziyech.
00:17:35It's going to be a Morocco run for Portugal to defend.
00:17:38They've got some big lads.
00:17:40Morocco have got a bit of height on their side to attack this.
00:17:43As they've shown already.
00:17:50Here's Ziyech.
00:17:54It seemed to come back onto El Yameek and then wide.
00:17:58My initial reaction is the goalie does well because he's expecting to have somebody get a touch.
00:18:04He waits, he doesn't commit himself.
00:18:09Ends up a good save.
00:18:11I think it probably does get a touch there from El Yameek.
00:18:18I think the goalkeeper does alright there, John.
00:18:24Ruben Neves.
00:18:34Ruben Dias.
00:18:40Just another wee warning for Portugal.
00:18:43They might have a lot of possession, searching for the equaliser.
00:18:51Bruno Fernandes.
00:18:57Buffalo.
00:19:04Ronaldo Silva as Ronaldo waits down below.
00:19:16The crowd have seen Ronaldo.
00:19:18He's not going to be the only new entrant.
00:19:21Giselle Cancelo is being made ready as well by Portugal.
00:19:34Racing off the field are Guerrero for one and Neves for another.
00:19:41On to a muted welcome.
00:19:43Cancelo on to a much louder one.
00:19:45Cristiano Ronaldo who by winning his 196th cap equals the world record
00:19:51for the most men's international appearances held by a Kuwaiti,
00:19:55Shraddha Al Mutawa.
00:19:58The other day he was called upon for a cameo.
00:20:00Today he is called upon for a rescue mission.
00:20:07Yeah, just no surprise.
00:20:09No change in shape.
00:20:11However, Ramos has dropped into the number 10 position.
00:20:15And Ronaldo is playing straight through the middle.
00:20:18And here he is.
00:20:22Cristiano Ronaldo and it's plucked out of the skies by Bruno.
00:20:26Another bright opening, wasn't it?
00:20:29Probably just the slightest of deflections there from El Yamik
00:20:33takes it into the goalkeeper Bruno.
00:20:48He's decided to stay down.
00:20:56He gets up high and he just falls awkwardly, doesn't he?
00:20:58Jarring, wasn't it?
00:20:59Yeah.
00:21:03And put this into context.
00:21:05I'm laughing here actually, just before you asked me.
00:21:07I'm laughing at Pepe.
00:21:08I said to the referees, play acting.
00:21:10He clearly doesn't do irony, Pepe.
00:21:12Anyway, I apologise.
00:21:13No, no.
00:21:14I mean, on that subject, the absolute master of the dark arts.
00:21:18I mean, we watched Argentina and we watched the Netherlands yesterday.
00:21:24We saw Eve Reynard there in that show,
00:21:26who was the coach of Morocco last time round at the 2018 World Cup.
00:21:30But I mean, Pepe wrote the manual, didn't he?
00:21:32100%.
00:21:34Best in the business.
00:21:35Best stroke, worst in the business.
00:21:40This is going to be a fascinating half hour or so.
00:21:43It really is.
00:21:44I was going to ask you to put it into context.
00:21:45I mean, if Morocco pull this off,
00:21:47African football has developed so much.
00:21:49But how big a shock, how big an achievement would it be,
00:21:52in your estimate?
00:21:53Monumental.
00:21:54Monumental achievement.
00:21:55Because do you know something?
00:21:57The achievement itself would be superb, John, and fantastic.
00:22:01But it's the manner of the achievement.
00:22:04Go through the group stages undefeated.
00:22:07Knock out Spain.
00:22:10And then go through against Portugal.
00:22:11It would be incredible.
00:22:13I've just noticed Saïs clear that ball.
00:22:15He's the one that's carrying a hamstring problem,
00:22:17and he's limping again.
00:22:19Moroccan central defender.
00:22:21You can see the strapping.
00:22:24Oh, he's toiling.
00:22:25Yeah.
00:22:26I was just looking at him off camera there as well.
00:22:29Looks as though he's toiling there.
00:22:30He's got hands on the knees now, Jonah.
00:22:36It's pretty remarkable that he started.
00:22:38That is.
00:22:39Because it's only four days ago that he was really struggling
00:22:42to even limp off the field at the end of that game against Spain.
00:22:47Well, don't be so mushing, Aguirre,
00:22:48but I'll tell you right now,
00:22:49if Saïs has to go off in the replacements,
00:22:51anything like the quality of El Yamik,
00:22:53who's come on and looked very comfortable
00:22:55on the right-hand side of the defence there.
00:22:59And if he did have to go off,
00:23:00it would, I think, be Badr Banoun who would come on.
00:23:03Fourth choice centre-back.
00:23:05Here's Dalot.
00:23:06Looking up.
00:23:07And locating only.
00:23:10And he was allowed to catch it.
00:23:12Yeah.
00:23:13Ronaldo's limbered there.
00:23:14He's got the ball.
00:23:16He's got the ball.
00:23:17He's got the ball.
00:23:18Yeah, Ronaldo's limbered, isn't he?
00:23:20I think he's looking for...
00:23:23Ramos to try and get across the front post.
00:23:28Ramos was kind of pointing to Ronaldo,
00:23:30saying he was making that run to create the space for Ronaldo.
00:23:34So probably the wrong option there from Dalot.
00:23:37Activity down on the Moroccan bench.
00:23:38We assume it's because of Saïs, don't we?
00:23:40Yeah.
00:23:45Kataé.
00:23:49Bouffal.
00:23:52Morocco with a taste for this.
00:23:53End the searing.
00:23:54Unahi.
00:23:57Everything superb until the final bit that matters.
00:24:02And I like him.
00:24:03I still like him.
00:24:04Yeah, Saïs is getting down there, John.
00:24:06That's the end of the match.
00:24:08And do you know something?
00:24:10It could potentially be the end of the tournament for him,
00:24:12which is a great shame.
00:24:14He just gets underneath it, gets it all wrong,
00:24:15tries to curl it, doesn't he?
00:24:19Unahi there.
00:24:22Good build-up play, particularly down the left-hand side here
00:24:25from Bouffal, played it into Nesri.
00:24:28Good back-up play.
00:24:30But the shot was poor from Unahi.
00:24:38The substitute that has been made ready by Morocco
00:24:42is actually Ashraf Dari,
00:24:43who is arguably the fifth-choice central defender.
00:24:47A place for Preste in France.
00:24:57He's been such a warrior in this tournament.
00:25:00Leading very much by example.
00:25:03Defensively they've been excellent.
00:25:05Absolutely.
00:25:06I think they've been defensively.
00:25:08You can see the strapping around that left thigh.
00:25:11He was moving in pretty gingerous fashion in the warm-up.
00:25:15Lovely flighted ball in from Gies there.
00:25:18You know something?
00:25:19I think the goalie does really well.
00:25:21He deserves his little bit of luck there
00:25:22because he doesn't commit himself.
00:25:25Because he thinks El Yamik is going to get a touch,
00:25:27which he does do.
00:25:28He gets the slightest of touches.
00:25:31Costa makes himself big after that error in the first half.
00:25:34I think he deserves a little bit of a break there
00:25:36and he's earned it.
00:25:38He's being saluted by the legions of Moroccan supporters.
00:25:46With him goes an awful lot of experience and wiliness.
00:25:5023-year-old Ashraf Dari takes his place.
00:26:07Pepe.
00:26:17Bruno Fernandes.
00:26:22Ramos.
00:26:23Headed opportunity.
00:26:25Which is as good as anything they've managed to carve out.
00:26:27We've hardly said Ramos' name today.
00:26:29He's been very quiet first half.
00:26:31Almost invisible.
00:26:32Lovely turn of Thiebaud.
00:26:33It's a good ball in.
00:26:34He tries to put it back across him.
00:26:38Everything's right.
00:26:39Way to do it.
00:26:40Just the direction.
00:26:42Puts it too wide.
00:26:44There's not an awful lot of pace in the ball into him.
00:26:47Which makes it difficult.
00:26:49I think sadly that's the last we'll see of the big fail in a tournament.
00:26:53I hope I'm wrong if they go through.
00:26:59These sides operating on a pretty quick turnaround.
00:27:04Full day break.
00:27:06Ziyech.
00:27:12Portugal breezed through that round of 16 matches.
00:27:15Much more like hard labour for Morocco.
00:27:17And this is Yao Felix.
00:27:23Held up by Dari.
00:27:28Tabio.
00:27:30Cristiano Ronaldo.
00:27:36And Nasseri.
00:27:42You know he's offside.
00:27:43He is.
00:27:44I was just going to say.
00:27:45Ashraf Dari comes on there.
00:27:47He's thinking to himself,
00:27:48I'll maybe just break myself in gently here.
00:27:50Went over the top in the first 30 seconds.
00:27:52He's chasing it back.
00:27:54It's Felix.
00:27:55Yao Felix.
00:27:56But he does well.
00:28:01Looking for Portugal here.
00:28:05A reminder that as soon as we're done here,
00:28:07the focus switches pretty much immediately to England
00:28:09against the World Champions.
00:28:10England-France exclusively live here on ITV1
00:28:13and STV from 6pm.
00:28:25Cancelo.
00:28:28Hakimi.
00:28:35Cancelo.
00:28:42The only shot on target so far in this game
00:28:44came as early as the fourth minute.
00:28:46Yeah.
00:28:47Yao Felix.
00:28:48He was ahead there, wasn't he?
00:28:49And I mentioned earlier,
00:28:50he only had to defend one shot on target
00:28:53against Spain in the previous round.
00:28:57Bruno Fernandes.
00:28:59Tells you a lot about their organisation.
00:29:02Yao Cancelo.
00:29:05Ronaldo Silva.
00:29:07Otavio.
00:29:09Yao Felix.
00:29:18Pepe.
00:29:29Dalot.
00:29:35That's brilliant defending.
00:29:37It really is.
00:29:40Really is top class.
00:29:41Look, just uses his body,
00:29:43doesn't go to ground,
00:29:44protects the ball.
00:29:46Both their fullbacks have been excellent.
00:29:49Our play.
00:29:51Hatia Alah on the left-hand side
00:29:52and Hakimi on the right, John.
00:29:54Excellent.
00:29:59Here we go.
00:30:05Goal.
00:30:12Thomas Richards with the five-pointed green star.
00:30:15He won so proudly.
00:30:25Cancelo.
00:30:26Pepe.
00:30:30Otavio.
00:30:31Ronaldo.
00:30:33Bruno Fernandes.
00:30:38Yeah, it's not a bad cross.
00:30:41Cancelo-Ramos once again
00:30:42trying to get across the front post.
00:30:50The defender just matches the run.
00:30:52I think it's El-Mayik on that occasion,
00:30:54just matches the run.
00:31:02Goal.
00:31:12Half an hour or so away
00:31:14from rewriting the World Cup record books.
00:31:20Only the third team from outside Europe
00:31:22and South America to reach a semi-final.
00:31:27Cancelo.
00:31:29Portugal still with plenty to say about that prospect.
00:31:36Yeah, really need a performance from both the substitutes.
00:31:39Both the substitutes, Portugal, Cancelo,
00:31:42who I think has been quiet the whole tournament,
00:31:44and certainly Ronaldo.
00:31:56Bernardo Silva.
00:31:59Bruno Fernandes.
00:32:05What a chance, it really is.
00:32:09Just hanging about the edge of the box.
00:32:11Takes a good touch.
00:32:14Just leaning back on it ever so slightly.
00:32:17On target, I think it's in.
00:32:20I think it's a goal.
00:32:22I don't think Bruno's getting it.
00:32:25Another injury worry.
00:32:27Joan over the far side there for Morocco.
00:32:32It's Yesh.
00:32:35Morocco are about to make a double change.
00:32:45Walid Shadira is replacing Salim Amalar.
00:32:50Forward player for a midfielder.
00:32:55In the Serie, the goalscorer is also being withdrawn.
00:33:00In favour of a central defender, Badr Banoun.
00:33:02So, is that a change of shape?
00:33:06Maybe just the two backs of five.
00:33:25It's the moment that matters.
00:33:27Three minutes prior to half-time.
00:33:29Doesn't take his eye off it, does not take his eye off it for one second.
00:33:45Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo.
00:33:52Free kick.
00:33:54Goal.
00:34:18Bruno Fernandes.
00:34:20It's a wrist.
00:34:24Bernardo Silva.
00:34:26Katae.
00:34:27Katae.
00:34:53Otavio.
00:34:57Unagi.
00:35:27He tries to cut inside.
00:35:32I say it again.
00:35:33John has just not looked himself.
00:35:35Cancelo this tournament.
00:35:37Great player as he is.
00:35:40And there are two more Portuguese substitutes on the way.
00:35:44Leao and Betinho.
00:35:58Bernardo Silva.
00:36:02Cancelo.
00:36:11Dalot.
00:36:16Otavio.
00:36:18Cancelo.
00:36:21Bernardo Silva.
00:36:24Cancelo.
00:36:28Cristiano Ronaldo.
00:36:34Cristiano Felix.
00:36:45Bruno Fernandes.
00:36:48Too long for Ronaldo.
00:36:50It's a lovely touch he takes to come inside.
00:36:52He just puts too much on it, doesn't he?
00:36:56You can see the intent.
00:36:59She's trying to knock it into that area for Ronaldo to attack.
00:37:07Here come those changes.
00:37:09This is not Gonçalo Ramos' day.
00:37:18Leao and Betinho introduced.
00:37:39It's not the last throw of the day yet.
00:37:42We're 20 minutes to go.
00:37:44We're heading in that general direction.
00:37:49When does concern turn to desperation?
00:37:52The next minute or so.
00:38:08Portugal going through the motions, but not yet through the gears.
00:38:12No.
00:38:14Morocco are going to about five.
00:38:16Rafael Leao.
00:38:19The referee has given the ball away.
00:38:21It's not a goal.
00:38:23It's not a goal.
00:38:25It's not a goal.
00:38:27It's not a goal.
00:38:29It's not a goal.
00:38:31It's not a goal.
00:38:33It's not a goal.
00:38:35It's not a goal.
00:38:37The referee has given that.
00:38:40They look as though they're going to about five now, Morocco join.
00:38:44Yellow card for the tackle too.
00:38:48Dari departing the scene.
00:38:51That man there, Dari, picking up the yellow card, playing on the right side.
00:38:54Three centre-backs at this moment in time.
00:39:07It's the first quarter of the game.
00:39:11A bit different in nature to one of yesterday's quarter-finals.
00:39:19Just as grindingly tense.
00:39:37Fernandes.
00:39:39Oh, Bernardo Silva was on the stretch.
00:39:41The team is away, Paul.
00:39:44Petrinha.
00:39:46Rafael Leao.
00:39:54They're up for it, aren't they?
00:39:56You can see it.
00:40:07Chedeira.
00:40:21It's a 40-second-minute towering header by Youssef Mbasseri
00:40:24that separates these sides.
00:40:27Dalot.
00:40:30On its way by Hakimi.
00:40:32That's going to be really interesting.
00:40:34I'm thinking to myself, Portugal struggled against
00:40:37to break them down with a back four.
00:40:39They're now going with three centre-backs and a back five.
00:40:42It's going to take something special.
00:40:44Or a mistake.
00:41:02Petrinha.
00:41:04Dalot.
00:41:08Pepe.
00:41:11Ruben Diaz.
00:41:25What goes so industrious, shuffling one side to another,
00:41:28defiant, is Dalot.
00:41:29It's another cul-de-sac,
00:41:31but it does yield a corner at the end of it.
00:41:33It does well again.
00:41:35I mean, he's been terrific.
00:41:37He keeps saying it.
00:41:40Just his energy levels to get back from situations.
00:41:44He looks lost, but he still gets back in,
00:41:47gets a touch.
00:41:49Defensively been excellent.
00:41:51Bruno Fernandes.
00:41:55As far as Bernardo Silva.
00:41:59Cancelo.
00:42:01Still five.
00:42:03Becoming six, waiting.
00:42:05And they'll be supplementing for another corner.
00:42:07Good cover again there.
00:42:13Initially just two defenders in the right-back position there.
00:42:23Bruno Fernandes.
00:42:30Another corner and a lecture.
00:42:41Pepe.
00:42:42Tight at the near post.
00:42:48Now Felix was ready to jump,
00:42:50and Bruno was there with a touch.
00:42:52He did well.
00:42:53He did really well.
00:42:54I saw him come,
00:42:55and I thought it was just going to go beyond him.
00:42:59Some great hand on it.
00:43:04Attempting to turn the screw.
00:43:10Bruno Fernandes.
00:43:18Cancelo.
00:43:20Rafael Leal.
00:43:21It was El-Yameek,
00:43:23and tidying was Amrabat.
00:43:25Then Ziyech.
00:43:28Morocco attempt to come the other way.
00:43:31And they have a couple of runners.
00:43:33One of them Zounahi.
00:43:38Chidera.
00:43:42What a counter.
00:43:43What a counter.
00:43:45It was excellent.
00:43:46Chidera is a little bit unlucky,
00:43:48but again the run for Zounahi
00:43:50is magnificent to get up there.
00:44:00I was going to say,
00:44:01if that going in,
00:44:02it might just about kill them,
00:44:03but after last night,
00:44:04you're scared to say anything.
00:44:12Delo.
00:44:14Delo.
00:44:24Cancelo.
00:44:26In towards Ronaldo.
00:44:28And he had Ala with an important head up.
00:44:38And ball by Chidera.
00:44:44Virginia.
00:44:49Dalo.
00:45:03Portugal the other day against Switzerland,
00:45:04look fresh-faced, eager.
00:45:06Yeah.
00:45:07Positive.
00:45:14They certainly looked a little bit off this evening,
00:45:15John,
00:45:16but again,
00:45:17you've got to give credit to Morocco.
00:45:19Cancelo.
00:45:21Dari.
00:45:23Rafaela out.
00:45:33Ziyech is the player on the floor.
00:45:37He continues with Pepe.
00:45:44Dalo.
00:45:50And he had Ala.
00:45:52On to Chidera.
00:45:53And now Ziyech,
00:45:54finally on the far side of the field,
00:45:55picks himself up.
00:45:58And it's Zounahi.
00:46:09Unsurprisingly,
00:46:10it was a tie-off pass.
00:46:12A great run.
00:46:14Bouffal could not go up to support him there.
00:46:17Ziyech attempted to slow things down.
00:46:20He does have an issue of some sort.
00:46:21The referee is saying,
00:46:22look, this tie will be taken account of,
00:46:24but Ziyech is down on the floor.
00:46:32It's an actual challenge here from Ruben Dias.
00:46:35Certainly don't think it's a free kick.
00:46:38Then the counter,
00:46:39that was a smashing ball right across.
00:46:41Zounahi does well.
00:46:43There.
00:46:44Knock it inside.
00:46:45Oh, just runs out for Chidera there.
00:46:48It really does.
00:46:51Just takes the slickers off him.
00:46:54But that's two or three times
00:46:55in the last five, six minutes
00:46:56that looked very, very dangerous on the counter.
00:47:01He's been brilliant, that fella.
00:47:02I tell you.
00:47:03Ante Atala.
00:47:07Just on the back of my mind as I watch this,
00:47:09I've got echoes of how close Cameroon came in 1990,
00:47:12how close Senegal came in 2002,
00:47:15and how very, very close Ghana came in 2010.
00:47:19Now, they all ended in hard luck stories.
00:47:21They did.
00:47:22And it may be just because this is fresh in my mind
00:47:24and I'm watching it right now,
00:47:26that this team look better.
00:47:28I think they do.
00:47:29I actually think they look better.
00:47:31More compact.
00:47:33I keep harping on about it, John.
00:47:35I can't tell you how impressed I've been
00:47:37with their shape.
00:47:40Their organisation.
00:47:42As I said, they've gone to three centre-backs
00:47:44who are five.
00:47:46Hasn't troubled them at all.
00:47:48Comfortable on the ball.
00:47:50Unsung hero.
00:47:51Amrabat in the middle of the park.
00:47:53Boy, he's put a shift in.
00:47:56They're just so difficult to play against.
00:48:01Ricardo Horta has come on
00:48:02as an extra Portuguese attacker,
00:48:03whilst Ziyech was receiving
00:48:05that initial treatment.
00:48:07Ziyech is still off the field
00:48:08on the far side.
00:48:12Arouco ready to make two more changes
00:48:14and currently playing with 10.
00:48:17Horta.
00:48:21Unahi.
00:48:34Bernardo Silva.
00:48:37Rafael Leal.
00:48:48Ziyech is back with us.
00:48:53Ruben Diaz.
00:48:56Is this going to face England or France
00:48:59in the second semi-final?
00:49:01Ziyech.
00:49:03Unahi.
00:49:09Shadira.
00:49:10Stepping in was Pepe.
00:49:14Portugal are playing here
00:49:15for their World Cup lives.
00:49:18And in some senses
00:49:19for their reputation as well.
00:49:21Yes.
00:49:22It's a bit of both.
00:49:24It's a bit of both.
00:49:26It's a bit of both.
00:49:27It's a bit of both.
00:49:28It's a bit of both.
00:49:31I'll take your point
00:49:32but I'm not so sure
00:49:33as I said earlier.
00:49:35A couple of substitutions
00:49:36getting made here.
00:49:37They've been terrific
00:49:38throughout the tournament, Morocco.
00:49:41Goalless draw against Croatia.
00:49:43Comfortable victory
00:49:44against Belgium.
00:49:45Beating Canada.
00:49:46Not winning out Spain.
00:49:48I don't think
00:49:49it would be the biggest embarrassment
00:49:50Portugal would have
00:49:51getting beaten today.
00:49:53I think it's more
00:49:54it's all about Morocco
00:49:55to tell you the truth.
00:50:00So, Zakaria Abouklaou, a midfielder with an attacking mindset, comes on.
00:50:07So too will Yahir Djibran.
00:50:11And it's the two wildcard elements, the two mavericks, Bouffal and Ziyech, who are making way.
00:50:30More substitutions available to either side in the space of the initial 90 minutes.
00:50:43Porter.
00:50:50Presented back to him.
00:50:53And Fenix!
00:50:56Bono, with a vital, critical flick.
00:51:03What a save, that's really poor defending, first mistake they've made.
00:51:09Oh, what a save, it's better than I ever thought.
00:51:13It's a great strike from Fenix, big hand tip.
00:51:18He's doing him a disservice here, what a save it is.
00:51:21Portugal are teetering.
00:51:26Bono with height and enough distance.
00:51:33And the Portuguese substitutes out to act as ball boys.
00:51:42Cancelo.
00:51:51Vitinha.
00:51:56Xhau Fenix, free kick Portugal.
00:52:03Yeah, it's a good turn from Xhau Fenix.
00:52:06Puts himself between the ball and Waleed Shadira, earns a free kick.
00:52:15That was a great save that man had a minute ago.
00:52:25This time there's no discussions with Ronaldo.
00:52:28There's always going to be Bruno Fernandes.
00:52:33Kete has looked forward, Ruben Dias too.
00:52:38Trying something more sophisticated.
00:52:41He's been as bright as a button.
00:52:49I'm glad I've not picked Man in a match.
00:52:52He's been superb, he really has.
00:52:55Both full-backs, goalkeeper.
00:53:25Porto.
00:53:38Contrast between the different supporters.
00:53:42Morocco's incessant whistling, constant engagement.
00:53:49Portugal's mostly situated at the right-hand end as we look.
00:53:53Just watching the scans.
00:53:56Amrabat partially away, then more fully.
00:54:04That man again, Amrabat.
00:54:07Just goes about his business this evening, John.
00:54:10Patrolling areas, plugging little holes.
00:54:22Ruben Dias.
00:54:30Kete.
00:54:36Ronaldo Silva.
00:54:42Fernandes.
00:54:44That's the shins of Ati Adela.
00:54:53Bruno Fernandes.
00:54:55They're appealing for handball there.
00:54:58The defender was Elia Meek and he met it at an awkward height and an awkward angle.
00:55:02Well, he's been down on his knees, hasn't he?
00:55:06Definitely heads it away, whether it comes off his arm or not.
00:55:15Red 3 here, make none of it.
00:55:17Chile's told otherwise.
00:55:18There's no holding the play.
00:55:20It's Bruno Fernandes.
00:55:22It's a strong header out by Dari.
00:55:25Right now it's a free kick to Morocco.
00:55:29And a yellow card too for the foul.
00:55:34I don't see this free kick getting taken in the next minute or so.
00:55:49Just gets to it first, doesn't he?
00:55:52That man again.
00:55:53Good night.
00:55:56I don't know if I've told you I've been fairly impressed with his performance.
00:55:59Probably once or twice.
00:56:00I vaguely recall you mentioning it.
00:56:05He's not the only one to have impressed.
00:56:07There have been times watching this second half in particular where
00:56:09I've almost been tempted to count out the shirts
00:56:11to make sure that Morocco haven't slipped a couple of extra players on.
00:56:15Honest to goodness, John, it's just their organisation, their shape.
00:56:18Obviously they started with four.
00:56:20And they've made the changes, played three centre-backs.
00:56:23But equally, Hakimi on the right and Ati Akala on the left-hand side
00:56:28have been excellent.
00:56:29They've got forward at times, but defensively they've been absolutely terrific.
00:56:34And watching this game tonight, you can see the reason why they've only lost
00:56:39one goal in the tournament, and it's an own goal.
00:56:42Seven clean seats in their last eight.
00:56:44Looks as though if it is going to be eight and nine,
00:56:47they'll get them to the semi-final of a World Cup,
00:56:50which would be phenomenal.
00:56:55Portugal still insistent they can do something to prevent that.
00:57:00Their insistence hasn't translated into constant danger.
00:57:03Far from it.
00:57:06Morocco have had just 23% possession.
00:57:12Bernardo Silva.
00:57:15Xiao Felix.
00:57:17Any potential defying formation out of the window for Portugal now.
00:57:23There you are, that look says it all.
00:57:28And if you're one of the Moroccan players and you're looking across
00:57:31and you see that look, it just gives you another added little bit of strength.
00:57:42You see the scenes here.
00:57:43Imagine what it must be like at this moment in Casablanca,
00:57:47in Marrakech, in Rabat.
00:57:54Not the place to be tonight, Marrakech.
00:57:57You can maybe jump on a train there if you want, John.
00:58:05Yeah, Mookie, I'm sorry.
00:58:12Bernardo Silva.
00:58:26That goal from Ender Seri late in the first half.
00:58:36Stands to be a history-making moment.
00:58:39Stands to be a history-making moment.
00:58:42El Yamik.
00:58:47The next bit of theatre will be when the fourth official appears with the board
00:58:50for how much additional time.
00:58:54And Morocco are looking to seal the deal with Shadira.
00:59:03And the answer to the question, by the way,
00:59:05how much additional time is eight minutes?
00:59:07The flag is up, he should have left it.
00:59:09That's poor play from the substitute, Shadira.
00:59:12He's got to leave that for Atia Ala,
00:59:15because he must think he's offside.
00:59:17He knows Atia Ala's not offside.
00:59:19Yes, Bernardo!
00:59:22And it's Benoune that helps guard his goalkeeper.
00:59:25That's a chance. What a chance.
00:59:31He's on to it in a flash.
00:59:34He's just trying to hit it.
00:59:35Goalkeeper's bottom left-hand side, isn't he?
00:59:39Comfortable save, good stop.
00:59:42And up to Smother.
00:59:50Another yellow card, academic at this stage.
00:59:52Shadira got it.
00:59:56I was just about to say, was that the chance?
00:59:58But you think with seven minutes to go, something will happen.
01:00:04In this World Cup, it almost always has.
01:00:06Rafael Leal.
01:00:13Bernardo Silva.
01:00:16Bruno Fernandes.
01:00:21It's now Virginia.
01:00:25Porter.
01:00:28Bruno Fernandes betrays his frustration
01:00:31and his fears of what may about to lie in store for Portugal.
01:00:36It's clearly not a good ball from Hort to the substitute.
01:00:38Too much on it.
01:00:40Shadira picking up that yellow card there.
01:00:42The challenge of Pepe.
01:00:49Don't you remember the opening game of the 2010 World Cup
01:00:52when Xabalala scored that magnificent goal
01:00:55for South Africa against Mexico?
01:00:57In the first African World Cup.
01:00:59And we hailed that as a goal not just for South Africa
01:01:02but for all of Africa.
01:01:04And there's a very similar feel to this now.
01:01:06And of course, it's not just Africa.
01:01:08Shadira's going to be sent off here, by the way,
01:01:10for a second yellow card.
01:01:12And that adds another late twist here.
01:01:15Two yellow cards in the space of as many minutes
01:01:17for the Moroccan substitute.
01:01:19That's a blow.
01:01:20That's a real blow.
01:01:24Just leaves his foot in there.
01:01:25The first yellow card he picks up.
01:01:28And of course, foul on Pepe was silly enough.
01:01:35It's crazy going for it when he's got a yellow card.
01:01:39All the referee can see is him coming down on Jal Felix.
01:01:43Whether he touches him or not.
01:01:45The referee's got a good view of it.
01:01:53Morocco, a goal up.
01:01:55Portugal, a man up.
01:01:58Virginia.
01:02:10Bernardo Silva.
01:02:13Cancelo.
01:02:14Pepe is forward as an extra.
01:02:16Central striker now.
01:02:21I mean, I'm singing the praises of just about every individual
01:02:23on that side.
01:02:24And you've got El Yameek, who's come in.
01:02:29And his first game in place of Aguero has been unbelievable.
01:02:32Bruno Fernandes.
01:02:37Fernandes out for a corner now.
01:02:39You would have thought we're in the sort of territory
01:02:41where the goalkeeper might be summoned forward here.
01:02:44But he's staying back home at the moment.
01:02:50Jal Felix.
01:02:55Most of the Portuguese substitutes and their Moroccan
01:02:58counterparts actually out in the technical areas now.
01:03:02Way out of the dugouts.
01:03:09Cancelo.
01:03:10Too long.
01:03:17He's just trying to find Diaz at the back post there, isn't he?
01:03:21Too much on it.
01:03:25I mentioned it earlier, John.
01:03:26I mean, the achievement to get to the semi-final.
01:03:29We spoke about it.
01:03:30First African nation to do it.
01:03:33Well, clearly got all the deserved headlines.
01:03:35But I will just reiterate what I said.
01:03:38The manner in which they've done it is absolutely remarkable.
01:03:43Lose one goal, an own goal, knock out Spain.
01:03:47Beat Belgium comfortably.
01:03:49Draw the Croatia.
01:03:50They're just...
01:03:51It's tremendous.
01:03:52It really is.
01:03:55But the deal is not sealed yet.
01:04:04Rafael Leal.
01:04:09Atiyef Ala just booted it as far as he could.
01:04:12And here's Aboglao.
01:04:14And Zakaria Aboglao could have put it beyond Portugal.
01:04:21He had them at his mercy.
01:04:25And that he didn't.
01:04:28Means that Morocco have got an awful lot more work still to get through.
01:04:32Here's Amr Abad again.
01:04:33Look at that.
01:04:34Oh, it's magic.
01:04:35Unahi.
01:04:41They truly have played like a team inspired.
01:04:45Spirit.
01:04:47Ability.
01:04:48Organisation.
01:04:51And Kassid.
01:04:53And Kassid determination.
01:04:55Yeah.
01:05:00Bruno Fernandes.
01:05:03Bounced away from Xiao Felix who looks aghast.
01:05:08El Yamik going down the cramp there.
01:05:11I am absolutely, officially not surprised.
01:05:18What a chance Aboglao had to finish it there.
01:05:20Put it beyond doubt.
01:05:22Really poor finish.
01:05:24Vitinha.
01:05:27Dangerous cross.
01:05:28It'll come to Rafael Leal.
01:05:34Rafael Leal.
01:05:35And Pepe.
01:05:38How does he miss it?
01:05:40I mean, how does he miss it?
01:05:45He's been brilliant.
01:05:47But how does Pepe miss it?
01:05:49Just comes from the back post.
01:05:51Rafael Leal.
01:05:52Great delivery in.
01:05:54Do you know something?
01:05:55Does Amr Abad get a touch?
01:05:56He might just get a touch that puts him off.
01:06:00I think he does, you know, Joan.
01:06:02I think Amr Abad gets the slightest of touches.
01:06:05I might be doing Pepe a big favour here.
01:06:08Because if he didn't get a touch, he's got to score.
01:06:10Must score.
01:06:14We need another wee look at that.
01:06:15But oh, dear me.
01:06:17Drama.
01:06:22Portugal.
01:06:24Recent European champions.
01:06:27On the very edge of elimination here at this World Cup.
01:06:33Rafael Leal.
01:06:40And if Morocco can eke out this
01:06:4310-man defiance for a few more seconds,
01:06:46you will hear an extraordinary roar.
01:06:52History and hysteria.
01:07:07A genuine tilt in the axis of world football.
01:07:15Because Morocco have smashed through that glass ceiling.
01:07:21And are the first African nation to reach a World Cup semifinal.
01:07:29Ronaldo is exiting the stage in tears.
01:07:33His World Cup dream surely over forever.
01:07:39But the spotlight belongs to a nation
01:07:43that has always been strategically important,
01:07:46historically significant,
01:07:48and now is well and truly on the sporting map.
01:07:51Not just for themselves,
01:07:53but for the continent of Africa,
01:07:55and for the entire Arab world.
01:08:05What do you say to you, John?
01:08:07I cannot tell you how thankful I am to be in this stadium
01:08:09to see that, to witness that.
01:08:12That was absolutely superb.
01:08:15And yes, that man's upset,
01:08:16but the fact of the matter is, it's not about him tonight.
01:08:22His time's been,
01:08:24it's all about Morocco this evening.
01:08:28What an example they have shown us tonight.
01:08:32With that organisation,
01:08:34that flair,
01:08:37that, just that ability to work for each other.
01:08:42It was nothing short of magical, that performance from start to finish.
01:08:45Because if we're going to be brutally honest about it,
01:08:48Pepe's had a chance at the end,
01:08:49and I can't remember really anything else.
01:08:52So well done, as I say, tonight.
01:08:55They thoroughly deserved it.
01:08:57But overall, so far in the tournament,
01:08:59what an achievement.
01:09:01Well first, it was Belgium.
01:09:04Then it was Spain.
01:09:06Now it's Portugal.
01:09:08Next it will be either England,
01:09:10or it will be France.
01:09:12Morocco, the first African team to pick up a World Cup point.
01:09:15The first African nation to get through the group stage
01:09:18in 1986.
01:09:20And now the first African country
01:09:23to reach the rarefied heights
01:09:25of a World Cup semi-final.
01:09:28Sima, we have been witnesses to football history.
01:09:33We certainly have, John.
01:09:35Mabarouk, Morocco, you have indeed made history.
01:09:39Take a bow, take a breath,
01:09:41take a moment, just take it all in.
01:09:44This is special, not only a proud moment
01:09:46for Moroccans around the world,
01:09:48but a proud moment for the African and Arab nations too.
01:09:51Nadia, can you sum up now
01:09:53just exactly how you're feeling watching these scenes?
01:09:56It's incredible.
01:09:58Obviously, my heart rate is 200 still.
01:10:00I'm actually very happy for them.
01:10:02As I said before the game,
01:10:04it's been fun to watch them, to follow them,
01:10:06because they play with so much heart.
01:10:08And today, again,
01:10:10what they demonstrated on the field is amazing.
01:10:12Incredible, beating out Portugal
01:10:15with all the stars that they have.
01:10:16It's just unbelievable.
01:10:18Well deserved.
01:10:20They've written a new chapter in their remarkable story.
01:10:22I mean, what a run they have had
01:10:24to now the semi-finals.
01:10:26Yes, unbelievable.
01:10:28I mean, you've got to give credit where credit is due.
