00:00Many people have noticed that the actor who played Ryan Butcher in the first season of
00:04The Boys was replaced for seasons 2, 3, and 4.
00:07However, a third actor was brought in to briefly play the role as well, but if you blink, you'll
00:11miss it.
00:12It was only after fans re-watched the entirety of The Boys in preparation for the season
00:164 premiere that many realized that the actor who played Ryan in the season 1 finale had
00:20been recast with the series' current actor, Cameron Cravetti.
00:24The introduction of the character was a glorified cameo, but when Cravetti took over in season
00:282, Ryan became what showrunner Eric Kripke would later call the key to season 4.
00:33With such an expanded role, the creative team wanted a more experienced child actor, and
00:38they found that with Cravetti.
00:40Fans became so familiar with the performance that they completely forgot the role wasn't
00:43originally his.
00:45Having two actors play one character isn't unheard of, and recasting decisions happen
00:49all the time.
00:50But there's a third actor who was portrayed Ryan Butcher, and this one is definitely harder
00:54to notice upon re-watches.
00:56In addition to the original actor, Parker Corneau, Cameron Cravetti has been joined
01:00by his twin brother, Nicholas, in playing Ryan Butcher.
01:03In an interview with Hollywood Life, the Cravetti brothers' mother, Denise, explained that Nicholas
01:07and Cameron certainly don't share the role, but if The Boys runs late, Nicholas sometimes
01:12gets a call.
01:13For example, Nicholas appeared in the big scene in season 2 where Homelander throws
01:17his son off the roof to see if he'll fly.
01:19She explained,
01:20When you shoot with kids, obviously you only get a finite amount of time.
01:24They lost the time, and they had to shoot a really important scene, the scene where
01:27Cameron falls off the roof.
01:29That took a lot of time, and they needed somebody.
01:31As Denise explained further, a producer was ecstatic upon learning Cameron had a twin
01:36brother.
01:37Funnily enough, Nicholas had also auditioned for the role of Ryan Butcher, but it was his
01:40brother who booked the job.
01:42Their mother explained,
01:43Cameron and Nicholas auditioned for the same stuff, and sometimes Nikki will get it over
01:46Cameron.
01:47It just depends.
01:48They're two different people, two different reads.
01:50Cameron ended up getting The Boys.
01:51The pair is also well-versed in playing twins in addition to being twins, as they starred
01:55as Max and Josh Wright on Big Little Lies, the sons of Nicole Kidman's character, Celeste.
02:00In fact, it was Nicholas' character, Max, who was at the center of the shocking reveal
02:04in the first season's final episodes.
02:06This also means that both boys were at the dinner table when Meryl Streep's Mary Louise
02:10Wright lets out a primal scream in season 2, a moment that has become a meme sensation.
02:15However, it's the U.S. remake of Good Night, Mommy! where the Cravetti brothers were really
02:19given the chance to shine.
02:20The thrilling horror picture sees the duo playing brothers named Elias and Lucas, who
02:24are convinced that their mother has been replaced by an imposter.
02:27They were only 13 at the time, yet held their own acting opposite the Academy Award-nominated
02:32Naomi Watts.
02:33You said she's been pretending.
02:34You're just trying to scare me.
02:36Pretending to be her.
02:37Stop it!
02:38Tell me you know that's her for sure and I'll stop.
02:41It's doubtful that Nicholas will step in as Ryan Butcher in a more substantial role, unless
02:45there's a scene with a soup-like doppelganger who can perfectly shapeshift and mimic another
02:49person.
02:51But it certainly would save the VFX team a huge headache to bring in Nicholas instead
02:53of trying to double Cameron.
02:55When he stepped in for his brother in season 2, it was so Cameron could film a different
02:59scene elsewhere that was less physically intensive.
03:01Photos taken of Nicholas were used to assist the CGI of Ryan Butcher falling off the roof,
03:06and the brothers loved getting the chance to work together on the series, even if it
03:09was only for a short while.
03:11Both Cravetti boys were recently seen in Boy Kills World as the younger version of Bill
03:15Skarsgård's character, and they once again played twins in the horror film Oracle.
03:20While Cameron has been busy with the boys, Nicholas is slated to next appear in the long-awaited
03:23adaptation of Stephen King's Salem's Lot as Danny Glick.
03:27If you recall the original two-part miniseries adaptation from 1979, you're likely scarred
03:32by the unexpected appearance of a vampirish Danny appearing in the window.
03:36It's a perfect role for Nicholas, and much like the McGraw sisters of The Black Phone
03:39and Megan fame, the Cravetti brothers are continuing to prove they are the future of
03:43twisted genre projects.
