00:00The question is, is there a fast for Muharram, and how many fasts are there?
00:30In Muharram, there is a fast called Ashura Muharram, which is on the 10th day of Muharram.
00:35So the 10th day of Muharram, before the Prophet's death, the people of Quraysh used to fast,
00:44the Jews used to fast, the Christians used to fast, everyone used to celebrate this day.
00:49So when the Prophet came to Medina, the Jews of Medina were also fasting,
00:54so the Prophet asked, why do they fast?
00:56So the Prophet was told that on this day, Allah the Almighty had saved Moses from the Pharaoh,
01:02so on this day, they fast in gratitude.
01:06So the Prophet said, Moses is my brother, he was also a Prophet, I am also a Prophet, he is my brother,
01:12so we have more right to follow his Sunnah, to celebrate his happiness, to fast in gratitude.
01:20So the Prophet also ordered everyone to fast.
01:23So when the fasts of Ramadan became obligatory, the Prophet allowed everyone to fast,
01:28whoever wanted to fast, they could fast, whoever wanted to fast, they could fast.
01:31So at the end of his life, the Prophet expressed his desire that since the Jews also fast,
01:37so to oppose them, we will also fast on the 9th day.
01:41So two fasts are to be fasted, the 9th and the 10th.
01:45And if no one can fast on the 9th, then fast on the 10th and the 11th.
01:49So the scholars explained, Hafidh Ibn Qayyim said,
01:53that the highest rank is to fast on the 3rd day,
01:57and if not on the 3rd, then on the 2nd day, 9th and 10th, or 10th and 11th.
02:03So we should fast on the 11th day, so that no one can fast on the 9th.
02:06Otherwise, the Prophet's desire was that he would also fast on the 9th day.
02:09So we should fast on the 9th and 10th, so that Allah the Almighty will have mercy on us,
02:13and Allah the Almighty will forgive us.
