Elgin City new signing Dylan Gavin speaks about full-time football at Charlton Athletic, playing alongside team-mate and house-mate Dajon Golding at Tonbridge Angels.
Transcript
00:00The manager got in contact with my agent and my agent told me about the move up to Heriot.
00:05It was a no-brainer because I was out with football for about two or three months and I wanted to get back straight into it.
00:11I wanted to go to a different place. It's in Scotland so it's the right place.
00:15I've always wanted to play in Scotland so that would have been the right move.
00:18Great opportunity for you. Obviously you've been at Charlton for, what was it, three years was it?
00:23Four.
00:25Full-time football there and obviously it happens so often in football that you get at least a place in one of these big clubs.
00:32It must have been a great experience being involved in that big club like Charlton.
00:35Yeah it was. I made my debut. Lee Bowyer gave me my debut so that was a good experience.
00:40Then I went on a couple of loans. I went to four clubs I think.
00:44I went on the first one and then the last three or four there were good loans, good teams, top teams.
00:50All the loans were brilliant. All the staff were brilliant to me as well.
00:53The club was just an unbelievable club.
00:55I think we saw one of your goals at Billaricay was it?
00:58It was one of those special strikes that you cracked in from distance and you've proved that you've got that in your locker.
01:04Not just a penalty box player, you can strike them from distance as well.
01:07That was a good experience for me because my family was there as well.
01:10They all came off to watch the game so it was actually special for them as well.
01:13So your family will be coming to Elgin to watch as well?
01:15They'll be coming next week for this game.
01:17Well that's a big one of course. You'll be hoping to make your official debut in that match and be part of the scene.
01:23It's a massive game for Elgin.
01:25It's a big game. Hopefully a good crowd will come down as well.
01:27I know heaps of brilliant good crowds as well.
01:29This year I'm aiming to get a step back up, get my fitness back up again.
01:33Hopefully score a few goals and get the team into the play-offs in order to get promoted.
01:38Where is the fitness at the moment would you say?
01:40I'm not that fit at the moment but I need to put in extra work to get back to where I was before.
01:46Where will you be based?
01:48I'm living in Lossiemouth. Me, Dejan and I are going to live in a flat together.
01:54So you're going to be local guys.
01:56It could potentially be a partnership up front between the two of you as well.
02:01It would be a good partnership because we played together down in Tunbridge.
02:04We were there for a few weeks. I got injured then.
02:07Dejan's a really good lad.
02:09We're living together. There's a good connection anyway.
02:11Obviously we've played before.
02:13If we get the opportunity, the two of us will be a good partnership.
02:17Hopefully. You never know.
02:19You're someone who's used to full-time training at a part-time club like Elgin.
02:23You've just got to train when you can, go to the sessions and work on it.
02:25Are you confident that come the start of the League 2 season you'll be in good shape and ready to go?
02:29It's a different environment.
02:31A different experience as well, obviously being part-time.
02:35I'm doing other stuff outside the club as well.
02:37I'll get used to it anyway.
02:40Hopefully get back into full-time soon.
02:42What's your early feel about Elgin City?
02:44About the place, the ground and the style of play here?
02:47I'm only here a week.
02:49It's a good club.
02:51It's a really nice club.
02:53It's well run.
02:55I know the big fans as well.
02:57I can't wait to get going and play in front of the home crowd.
03:00Hopefully score a few goals.
03:02That's what they're hoping for as well?
03:03Hopefully.
