Elgin City loan midfielder Mark Gallagher spoke about his time living in Elgin as a youngster and his Borough Briggs debut to start his spell at City after being farmed out by Cove Rangers.
Transcript
00:00 There were rumours but I always wanted to come to Elgin because I've lived here before.
00:05 I spoke to the manager, I liked his ideas and what he wanted to do here at the club.
00:11 That kind of sold me and I was happy to get it done.
00:14 The manager has obviously seen you play in the Highland League against him before.
00:17 You were playing for Fort Martin this season, wasn't it?
00:20 I think your performance was there.
00:22 He felt you were definitely worth the step up and obviously you went to Coventry after that.
00:26 What's your make-up of League 2? Have you played at League 2 before?
00:30 I played a few games in League 2 then. It's a tough league, it's very tough.
00:35 It's physical. There are a lot of good players in the league, I still play football and stuff.
00:41 But first and foremost it's physical and you need to win your battles.
00:45 The result didn't go Elgin's way today but what was your first impressions of the style of play that Elgin have got here?
00:51 I thought we did well. We passed the ball quite well.
00:54 At certain times of the game we dominated a lot of the game.
00:57 I thought we were unlucky with a few chances not to take the lead.
01:01 To lose a goal before half-time was a bit of a killer.
01:04 We pushed and pushed but it wasn't our day today.
01:07 Have you played at Butterbriggs before? You would have played for Fawford, didn't you?
01:10 Yes, I came on for Fawford here a few seasons ago now.
01:14 It's a good pitch, a good stadium. There are a lot of fans here today so I enjoyed it.
01:18 Tell me a bit more about your time at Elgin before than living in Elgin.
01:21 When did you arrive in Elgin?
01:23 In 2012 I moved from Spain to Elgin. I enjoyed it, went to school here, met loads of good friends here and really enjoyed it.
01:32 Then I moved to Aberdeen when I signed for them. It's good to be back.
01:36 What was your primary school in Elgin?
01:38 Bishopmill Academy.
01:40 Did some of your club mates come through that Bishopmill team?
01:42 Yes, they did. I think we won the school competition.
01:47 The opportunity for you now is to get a lot of football you want to be playing every week and make an impression to go back to Cove and say this is what I'm doing.
01:56 You're still a young man with a long career ahead of you.
02:00 Yes, I think so. I think it's good to take a step back sometimes and then to go forward.
02:04 Come back, get experience, play a good level, a good standard and then hopefully improve as a player when I go back to Cove in the summer.
02:12 You've played a lot of football already this season in League One, haven't you?
02:15 Yes, I've played a few tough games this season. I've played for Hamilton, for Falkirk, for big stadiums where you want to be playing.
02:22 That was a good experience for me. I like to play all over the pitch, controlling the game, getting full as much as I can, but also helping out at the back, putting in tackles.
02:32 Elgin are in a difficult position at second bottom at the moment. Are you confident you can help them with the new additions that have come into the squad?
02:40 Going off today especially, I think we can have loads of confidence in the game going forward. I think we played really well at times.
02:47 We can have a good run when I fix it, especially here at home. We can be strong here at home and then do really well in the league and try to get up the league.
02:54 You've got a Cove teammate here as well, Dejan as well. He's come on loan from Cove as well, so you'll know him pretty well.
02:59 Yes, that helped quite a lot. Having Dejan here, a familiar face that I know who I can travel up with and stuff. He did well today, up front in the zone. Good to have him.
03:08 Straight into a really tough, pacemate battle match on Tuesday night against Clyde, without the bottom two places at the moment. It's going to be a real survival to finish that game, isn't it?
03:17 I think so, yes. I think it'll be the first one was a battle between the two teams. Hopefully, we can show our quality going forward and try to get the goals that we deserve today in that game. Looking forward to that.
