00:08Since 2010, we have been bombarded with a multitude of refreshing cartoons
00:14that have redefined western animation as we know it!
00:17And we're gonna explore those spectacular cartoons today!
00:21So let's dive right in to the Top 10 Best Modern Cartoons!
00:25If it's made after 2010, it's allowed on this list.
00:29And as always, if these cartoons aren't your favorites, that's fine!
00:32I'm pretty biased, but hopefully there are a couple of cartoons on this list that you might also enjoy!
00:37Anyway, let's do this countdown!
00:44Nickelodeon is back with a vengeance!
00:48After 20 years, they are hungry to rival Cartoon Network once again!
00:53Nickelodeon's continued their climb back from the bottom with a simple, yet high-quality and fast-paced cartoon!
01:00Loud House is a return to the traditional Nicktoons that originally gave Nickelodeon its good reputation two decades ago!
01:08It just has a truckload of energy to give, and a massive entourage of likable characters!
01:14All around our main character, Lincoln!
01:16Lincoln lives in a constant state of chaos and madness with his ten sisters!
01:21Guys! Guys, too fast! Too fast, guys! Guys, too fast! I'm in a hole!
01:28It's a perfect example of how something brilliant can be made from the simplest of setups!
01:33And for some reason, despite the very trivial, harmless story, the music is downright badass!
01:40Just listen to this guitar riff!
01:41In the Loud House!
01:43Duck, duck, push and shove!
01:44This is how we show our love!
01:46Each girl has such a distinct, extreme personality, that I ended up remembering all ten of them after only a couple of episodes!
01:54My only real criticism with Loud House is that it doesn't translate quite as well to an older audience as some other cartoons.
02:01But it is still an exemplary cartoon, and there's still a lot of stuff there for adult viewers to enjoy!
02:07I hope we get more Nicktoons like this from Nickelodeon in the future!
02:11Because young viewers deserve it!
02:13Nickelodeon has trashed the garbage, and now it's back!

03:07That slight sense of unease is constantly there around you!

03:14There's something very off and creepy about this world!
03:17But being able to set that atmosphere so strongly, really shows what a sophisticated piece of animation this is!

03:26It's Christopher Lloyd!
03:28Don't you know the beast is afoot here?
03:30Extra points for fitting Doc in for a cameo!
03:32It's only 10 episodes long, but it was 10 episodes I felt gripped and invested in!
03:40And for number 8...
03:43Harvey Beaks!
03:44I have to mention Harvey Beaks again because...
03:47I personally think it's among the best cartoons Nickelodeon has done in a very long time!
03:52It's another of those worlds that the viewer is slowly immersed in, and it's easy to get lost in it!
03:57Even the visual animation style has this way of just putting me at ease!
04:02Something about the animation is just so peaceful and pleasant to look at!
04:06It really does look like the backgrounds of watercolor paintings!
04:10Harvey, Fee, and Foo are simply wonderful main characters!
04:14Fee is always the bold sense of logic in the trio!
04:18Foo's just an endless well of energy!
04:20And Harvey's... well, Harvey!
04:22He's following that refreshing new trend in modern cartoons...
04:26Of being strong simply through having a good nature!
04:29This book is now five minutes late!
04:33Revolution!
04:34With brief moments of insanity!
04:37He's just a well-meaning, good-natured guy!
04:40And sometimes that simple character is refreshing to see!
04:43Like Loud House, my only real nitpick is that these new Nicktoons can be...
04:48A little too wholesome sometimes!
04:50Even for me!
04:51But if you've got some cheese tolerance...
04:53Harvey Beaks is one of the best cartoons Nickelodeon has produced in over a decade!
04:58And I'm personally looking forward to seeing what this charming...
05:01Good-natured, but slightly psychotic bird gets up to in the future!
05:06And the seventh best modern cartoon is...
05:10We Bare Bears!
05:12I just like the raw simplicity of We Bare Bears!
05:15It's just three bears trying to fit in with the rest of modern society!
05:19Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear are just wonderfully awkward to watch!
05:24I just crack up whenever these guys enter a room!
05:28Hello, library! Take me to your internet!
05:30Shhh!
05:31All they want to do is fit in!
05:33But they just can't quite seem to get the hang of modern society!
05:37And they're just so wonderfully oblivious to the world around them!
05:41FBI!
05:42Something just always goes wrong for these guys!
05:45We Bare Bears isn't particularly epic!
05:48But it doesn't have to be!
05:49It's a cartoon that knows what it is!
05:51And just embraces its own zaniness!
05:54It's just trying to give the audience a good, quick laugh!
05:57And for me anyway, it does that spectacularly well!
06:00I really crack up with this cartoon!
06:02And really recommend it!

06:08Guys, this is great!
06:10We gotta celebrate!
06:14And for number six...
06:18Rick and Morty!
06:19Jeebus, this cartoon is still a mind trip!
06:22This cartoon remains what I consider the absolute best of Adult Swim!
06:27Rick and Morty still has that typical dark Adult Swim tone!
06:31But it uses this black tone to stylize itself!
06:34So it gives itself a very nihilistic, but interesting look at the totality of human existence!
06:44And the settings they get into are just mind-bogglingly creative!
06:49Rick and Morty regularly cross dimensional time and space!
06:53And that's just your average episode!
06:55In another moment, they may be rewriting the time and space continuum!
07:00In order to stop the apocalypse!
07:02Or just... watching interdimensional cable!
07:05It's always so creative and unpredictable!
07:08That it remains a really interesting watch!
07:11This is one of those cartoons I don't watch regularly!
07:14But I would recommend all the viewers check it out at least once!
07:17As long as they don't mind a bit of dark themes, violence, exploding guts, assault scenes...
07:23And... an interesting perspective on the universe as a whole!
07:26You know, you were right about the universe!
07:28It's a crazy and chaotic place!
07:30Well, you know, maybe that's why I could use a little cleaning up every now and then, you know?
07:41This cartoon can't not be mentioned!
07:43After Avatar The Last Airbender finished...
07:46The writers realized their cartoon was too smart!
07:50In fact, they were aiming at a much older demographic at that point!
07:54So in the sequel, they just made an outright adult cartoon!
07:57Going into very mature issues like social unrest, terrorism, sexual identity and segregation!
08:05I was awestruck by the sheer wonder and beauty of this sequel!
08:10There's this real sense of scope and vastness to the world they've created!
08:15I just felt more of a sense of reality to Korra's world!
08:18Than I did the original Avatar!
08:20Legend of Korra was a deep, atmospheric continuation of an already brilliant cartoon!
08:26With the same beautiful story, new deep characters...
08:30And just listen to this beautiful soundtrack!
08:40Sadly, I think Legend of Korra was a one-time treat for Nickelodeon!
08:44As it just didn't reach that ever-loved 8-17 demographic Nickelodeon loved so much!
08:50I just can't imagine modern Nickelodeon ever making something this adult!
08:55While most people seemed to have preferred the original...
08:58I personally think Legend of Korra was even better!
09:02There's our opening!
09:06And the fourth best modern cartoon is...
09:10Gravity Falls!
09:12One of Disney's greatest crowning achievements ever!
09:16I still can't figure out how this came out of Disney Channel!
09:20But all I can say is yes!
09:22More of this please, Disney!
09:24Gravity Falls is a work of art with endearing, likeable characters!
09:29And a compelling, mysterious narrative!
09:32The pacing is perfect!
09:34The music is perfect!
09:36And I was always on the edge of my seat throughout this whole series!
09:39Wondering what the next twist would be!
09:41The jokes are top-notch!
09:43And appeal to both kids and adults in that masterful Disney style!
09:47And the character development is spectacular!
09:51Dipper, Mabel, and Grunkle Stan are all very believable, likeable, relatable characters!
09:58When I see Dipper, I see an introverted guy struggling to find meaning in the world!
10:02When I see Mabel, I see an extroverted girl struggling to hold onto her personal joys as she approaches puberty!
10:09And Stan is one of the most interesting, funny older characters I've seen in animation in a very long time!
10:15They all feel like real people!
10:18I was sad to see Gravity Falls end!
10:20But they wowed us with an immersive, complex, epic ending!
10:25That left me having no idea what was gonna happen!
10:28This cartoon started strong, and it finished strong!
10:32In my opinion, it's easily one of the best modern cartoons!
10:44And the third best modern cartoon is...
10:54Wow!
10:54What did I just watch?
10:56Whatever it was, it was awesome!
10:58This cartoon just brims with energy!
11:01And I've loved every absurd, dimensional-jumping minute of it!
11:06I adore the animation!
11:07I adore the characters!
11:09I love the cheery, energetic tone!
11:11The voice acting is perfect as well!
11:19Yeah...
11:20This isn't gonna work.
11:22Technically, its story probably isn't the best.
11:25But I just get so caught up in this rollercoaster of a world they've made...
11:29That I don't even notice!
11:31Star and Marco are the perfect main characters!
11:34I love them!
11:35Marco is such a wonderfully down-to-earth character...
11:38That he's so damn likeable...
11:40That he works off Star perfectly!
11:42Star!
11:43How do you define this character?
11:49Imagine if Mabel was about six years older...
11:51Constantly high...
11:53And given control over time and space!
11:55Everything Star says is just bubbling with this endless pool of energy...
12:00That is an absolute blast to watch!
12:03Even the villains are brimming with character!
12:05The freaking henchman of the bad guy...
12:08Has more character than your average cartoon hero!

12:17My only real complaint with this cartoon is...
12:19There's not enough of them!
12:21There's unfortunately only 13 episodes so far!
12:24I really hope Disney does make more of these!

12:30Star vs. The Forces of Evil is everything I love in a cartoon!

12:35How do you describe this music?
12:46Did my Game Boy just have an orgasm?
12:49And the second best modern cartoon is...
12:53Adventure Time!
12:55What is most amazing about Adventure Time...
12:58Is just how sophisticated it has become over the last few years!
13:02Every episode seems to reveal some new mystery about their post-apocalyptic universe!
13:08Sometimes the story is watching Finn travel through the spectral universe!
13:12Sometimes it's a tragedy over a thousand years about the slow corruption of the mind!
13:19Sometimes it's about watching a worm!
13:22What's going on there?
13:24With your butt?
13:25It's fine, I was goofing off!
13:27I personally feel Adventure Time has only gotten better!
13:31The characters have become so multi-layered!
13:34And it has a ton of very adult messages and themes!
13:38In fact, the new seasons seem to be specifically aimed at adults!
13:42Adventure Time has created a world that is expanding so fast...
13:46Expanding so fast that it's almost impossible to keep up with!
13:50And that's my only possible complaint about this outstanding cartoon!
13:54So much is always happening...
13:56That I always feel lost from the story if I miss a single episode!
14:00But that really just shows how sophisticated the show has become over the years!
14:04I don't think there's ever been anything like Adventure Time!
14:08And it began a cartoon revolution that inspired...
14:11Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon alike!
14:16I adore this cartoon, and cannot recommend it enough!
14:20It'll be okay, dude!
14:25And before we get to number one, I'd like to give a couple of quick honorable mentions!
14:30Wonder over yonder!
14:32What is this? Dr. Seuss on steroids?
14:35You are so cute, I can't stand that train!
14:39It's another incredibly creative step in the right direction for Disney Channel!
14:43Even if I don't consider it their best!
14:45Wonder over yonder is such a unique world that it has to be mentioned!
14:49Just to note that this one is a bit more cloying and colorful...
14:52Done in a very parodying, clever way!
14:55I'd probably put this at number 11!
14:57Miraculous Ladybug!
14:59France has given us some... interesting things over the years!
15:02French fries, existentialism, seductive romancing techniques, New Orleans...
15:07But so far, this is one of the strangest things I've seen from France!
15:11There is some great creativity in the designs of these cartoons!
15:14And the English dub is pretty good!
15:16But to be honest, it's aimed pretty specifically at a female demographic!
15:20But I do appreciate the innovation that went into this one!
15:23The Amazing World of Gumball!
15:25I really like Gumball's creative stories, fun animation, and just chilled atmosphere!
15:31It was purely a personal preference that I left it off the list!
15:34It's still a fantastic modern cartoon, and deserves a mention!
15:37Young Justice!
15:39This cartoon had... one one-thousandth of the budget of Batman vs. Superman?
15:44And it puts the movie to absolute shame!
15:46It's better paced, more interesting, appeals to both children and adults...
15:51And it isn't completely lost in its undying need to be dark and edgy!
15:55DC basically remastered Teen Titans Original, and boy is it an amazing competitor!
16:01I love the stylized tone of this one!
16:04Spectacular animation that leaps off the screen, superb voice acting, and an incredible array of interesting characters!
16:12Give me this over Man of Steel any day!
16:14And with those said, here we go!
16:17And the number one best modern cartoon is...
16:23Steven Universe!
16:25Some people probably predicted I'd make this choice, and I really did think hard over it!
16:30But however I looked at it, Steven Universe just always ends up being the cartoon I've just enjoyed the most!
16:36Every new episode seems like a fascinating new twist in the story!
16:40And if we're not being immersed in the narrative, we're just enjoying being around these incredibly likable characters!
16:46The songs are brilliant!
16:48The settings are creative!
16:49The world they live in is just such a pleasure to immerse yourself in!
16:53And I can never decide which character is my favorite, because they're all just wonderful to me!
16:58Garnet is lovely! Pearl is endearing!
17:01Amethyst is a charming character that's only gotten more complex and likable!
17:10And Steven is just a pleasure to watch!
17:13Even after two years, it still feels like a breath of fresh air when I check out an episode!
17:18And it feels like the creators are always trying to top themselves with every new season!
17:23There is just this emotional energy to this cartoon!
17:27That emotion comes from every part of this cartoon!
17:30The voices, the characters, the visuals, the colors, the backgrounds, the songs!
17:37There's always another layer of depth under each episode!
17:41And even the tiniest details like eye shifts between characters can mean a world of character development!
17:48There's just this endless mystery behind Steven Universe that keeps me not only invested in enjoying the characters...
17:54But itching to find out what's gonna happen next in their world!
17:58I'm sorry to be predictable, but I just couldn't help it!
18:01I've just enjoyed this cartoon so much over the years!
18:05To me personally, Steven Universe is my number one best modern cartoon!
18:13If doing this list made me realize anything, is that we were right about a cartoon revolution beginning!
18:19We haven't had such a constant stream of creative ideas in our cartoons in a very long time!
18:25And I'm looking forward to seeing where these modern cartoons take us in the upcoming years!
