00:00Emmanuel Macron has written a letter to the French people which is being published in the regional
00:06press. It is now out there and is very difficult to decipher. Macron often talks about how he
00:14doesn't like to simplify things, that ideas are very complex, this is really complex,
00:19and it's very difficult to decipher. What he appears to be saying is that
00:24he seems to be calling for some sort of government of national unity but is unclear
00:32in whether he thinks that the France unbowed on the far left should be part of that or not.
00:38Because he talks about rejecting extremes but he also talks about converting this republican front
00:45into a government of national unity and that republican front of course did include
00:50cooperation from the far left. So that's really unclear and also in any case events are moving
00:57so quickly that the letter has almost been overtaken. Just minutes before the mainstream
01:06conservative right, so that's not the National Rally but Sarkozy's old party, the mainstream
01:10conservative right here in France who have been squabbling all through this, have elected a new
01:16leader, Laurent Wauquiez. He has spoken out and he has said two very important things. One, the new party
01:24will not take part in any coalition government, it will remain in opposition. So that's that
01:30national unity idea out the window. Secondly and crucially that if any government contains
01:38the far left, the France unbowed, then his party will call a vote of no confidence to topple it.
01:46So that really doesn't clear up very much. Fascinating though Angela, I suspect we'll get
01:51more news in the coming hours, we'll of course bring our viewers that when we have it. For now
01:55Angela Diffley though, thank you.
