00:00The Department of the Interior and Local Government, or DILG,
00:04laid down the accomplishments of the agency,
00:06from the lack of nutrition to the solving of crimes.
00:09That's what Benji Dorango reported.
00:13The story of DILG Secretary Benjuer Avalos Jr. in the PTV Prison Special was full of content.
00:20Aside from his work with the police and the local government,
00:23one of the DILG's most important work
00:25is the nutrition of the children by focusing on their well-being
00:29in the first 1,000 days of their birth.
00:32Because of the DILG's nutrition program,
00:34the children became healthier.
00:36The secret was also based on his successful program
00:39when he was just a mayor of Mandaluyong.
00:41From Mandaluyong, we did this.
00:43We gave alternative food, we fed it.
00:46Every day, we checked it, we weighed it.
00:49From Culela, we became number one in Metro Manila for six years
00:52until we became number one for the most healthy babies in the Philippines after six years,
00:57the Nutrition Honor Award.
00:58So now, this is what we are doing now, on the ground.
01:02Because it's important for the children of a young age,
01:05to have a good brain development
01:07so that they can grow up better.
01:09For now, they are in agreement with other agencies
01:11that made the program stronger.
01:13Now, what our president did,
01:15he led the DSWD
01:18together with the Department of Health.
01:20So, the gap that he said,
01:23from the time that he was a kid until he went to school,
01:27because usually, you are fed at school, right?
01:29That gap will be filled.
01:32The DILG also played a big role
01:34to make the PNP's drug operations effective
01:37in the past two years.
01:39In the anti-illegal drugs operations,
01:41the PNP carried out more than 600 anti-drug operations.
01:45More than 800 were arrested.
01:47This resulted in the confiscation
01:49of more than 13,000 grams of shabu,
01:51more than 11,000 grams of dried marijuana,
01:54and 26,000 marijuana plants.
01:56In total, more than P100 billion
02:00is the amount confiscated for illegal drugs.
02:02But they are now more focused
02:04on the support of local government units
02:07in the arrangement of their provinces and towns.
02:09Through the amendment of local government codes,
02:13within two years of the administration
02:15of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,
02:17they brought together different experts
02:19to arrange the 30 years of the police force.
02:22Our president did it right away
02:24because we remember that our president
02:26was a former governor, right?
02:29He became a senator, he became a congressman.
02:31He told us to study all of that.
02:34Let's arrange it one by one.
02:35Oh, this is heavy, TP, because
02:37all the functions, so what happened now,
02:40our recommendation is that
02:42from now on, all the education
02:44and construction, it should be national.
02:47Do we need an amendment to the law?
02:50Yes, yes, that's what we will do,
02:52the amendment of the local government code.
02:55It is expected that a new version of this will be released
02:57with a better relationship between the national
03:00and local government units.
03:01The DILG has more accomplishments,
03:04and it is now with the president.
03:05It will be read at the state of the nation address
03:08of the president on July 22.
