00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was the first to open the impounding process of the Upper Wawa Dam in Rizal.

00:24along with the formal opening of the impounding process of the Upper Wawa Dam in Rodriguez, Rizal.
00:29According to the President, this will be a big help to the water supply not only in the area
00:34but also in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
00:37The water supply of the dam is getting more and more difficult
00:41as it is located in a population of 14 million in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
00:45This significant milestone marks the completion of the construction of the dam component of Phase 2
00:52of the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project.
00:56The Upper Wawa Dam will be the biggest water source to be built in the country in over 50 years
01:03next to the Angat Dam.
01:05Having been accomplished a year ahead of schedule,
01:09this monumental development has set a new standard
01:12for infrastructure projects of similar magnitude in terms of scale and impact.
01:19The President's point is that the water supply from the Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project
01:23is expected to increase to 438 million liters per day from the previous 80 million liters only.
01:31It is time for the Upper Wawa Dam to be fully operational before the end of 2025.
01:37According to the President, this can be added in the coming years
01:42to reach 710 million liters per day.
01:46These 438 to 710 million liters per day translate
01:51to supporting the water supply needs of about 2.2 to 3.5 million Filipinos in the MWSS service area.
02:01This dam will also foster climate resilience amongst our people
02:06by protecting our communities downstream from flooding
02:10and by mitigating the detrimental effects of drought.
02:13The Executive Board of the Philippine Government also approved this project
02:16as part of the government's continued efforts to build infrastructures in various parts of the country
02:22so that there will be a reliable water supply.
02:25This was made possible by the help of the private sector.
02:30At the same time, the Executive Board of the Philippine Government approved the dam operators
02:34to maximize the dams in the country,
02:36not only in the use of water, but also in the generation of renewable energy.
02:41He also emphasized the importance of having multipurpose dams
02:46so that there will be a reliable water supply for irrigation, power generation, flood control, and aquaculture.
02:54Rest assured that this administration remains firm in its resolve
02:59to pursue a more transformative endeavor
03:03that will champion the optimal health and growth of Filipinos across the country.
03:09We will continue to address water security challenges
03:13to ensure that every Filipino has access to sufficient and clean water.
