00:00At the end of the day, people did appreciate what we'd done through the COVID crisis,
00:04through the cost of living crisis, supported people through those times. But we'd also
00:09promised for a number of terms that we would control migration, for example.
00:14We hadn't done that as effectively as we might have done. I think we were on the cusp of
00:18delivering that. But I think people would only listen to those promises a number of times before
00:24they lose faith. And I think people lost faith in us. I think we've been there for 14 years.
00:28People have been through some turbulent times. And I think it's a natural inclination of people
00:33to look for change at times of difficulty. So I think all those things contributed
00:38to the scale of the defeat. I think it's fair to say, though, we are now in opposition
00:44against the least popular majority government in history. The least popular, less than 34%
00:50of the vote. So I think it's a real opportunity for our party to regroup behind a new leader
00:55and really take the challenge to the Labour Party, both in opposition
00:59and potentially in 2029 in the general election that comes then.
